Supreme Court says no right to
hearing for some immigrants

Original Article

WASHINGTON — The Supreme Court ruled Tuesday that the government can indefinitely detain certain immigrants who say they will face persecution or torture if they are deported to their native countries. Over the dissent of three liberal justices, the court held 6-3 that the immigrants are not entitled to a hearing about whether they should be released while the government evaluates their claims. Justice Samuel Alito wrote for the court that “those aliens are not entitled to a bond hearing.”

Comments:

At long last, the Court has got something right. Maybe the allegations that the Justices were all castrated is untrue!

Pity they didn't rule that international law applies, namely that persons traveling to seek asylum must remain in the first safe country, Mexico, they travel to, and must file for asylum in the US with the consulate in Mexico

How did Judas Roberts manage to not screw this one up? This is a good ruling. This entire scam about the USG releasing illegals into the country over this persecution crap allows them to disappear forever, as millions already have. Obama and Biden have both used this nonsense to flood red states with them by relocating them.

Notice the AP left out the part of "some immigrants" being those previously deported until the 3rd paragraph. A rather crucial detail, wouldn't you think?

I'm all for just turning them around and sending them back as soon as they set one foot onto U.S. property.

FTA Justice Stephen Breyer saw it differently. “But why would Congress want to deny a bond hearing to individuals who reasonably fear persecution or torture,." A deportee from the USA has had multiple hearings, and Bleeding Breyer knows that. There are about 170 other countries the deadbeat from El Salvador can apply to for asylum, although I doubt any of them want him.

WASHINGTON — The Supreme Court sided Tuesday with a pipeline company in a dispute with New Jersey over land the company needs for a natural gas pipeline. Both liberal and conservative justices joined to rule 5-4 for the PennEast Pipeline Co. The 116-mile planned pipeline is to run from Pennsylvania’s Luzerne County to Mercer County in New Jersey. The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission had allowed the company’s project to move forward in 2018 by granting PennEast a so-called certificate of public convenience and necessity, but lawsuits followed. The company ultimately took New Jersey to court  CORRECTION*

Consumer prices roared higher last month, rising at their fastest pace in decades. Inflation rose 5% in the 12-months ending in May, the Bureau of Labor Statistics reported Thursday. That marked the biggest jump since August 2008. Stripping out food and energy costs, which tend to be more volatile, inflation stood at 3.8% over that 12- month period. It was the biggest increase in so-called core inflation since June 1992. In the month of May alone, prices rose 0.6% on a seasonally adjusted basis, slightly less than in April. Core inflation, excluding food and energy prices, stood at 0.7%, down from 0.9% in April.

There is bad news and good news coming out of the Cornell University Faculty Senate vote on Critical Race Theory mandates for faculty and students.First, the bad news. The Faculty Senate nominally voted for some forms of Critical Race Theory mandates on faculty and students. Second, the good news. The margins were surprisingly thin, there was suprisingly substantial opposition, and some of the six resolutions contradicted others, leaving a muddled mess that has to be viewed as a loss for proponents who must have expected overwhelming support.

The American Medical Association, the nation’s largest association of and lobby group for doctors, says it’s taking on racial disparities in health care with a plan to dismantle structural racism in its own ranks and across the U.S. medical establishment. Leaders of the AMA, whose headquarters is on North Wabash Avenue in River North, say they’re aiming to “pivot from ambivalence to urgent action” on health inequities. Though the new, 83-page report has been in the works for more than a year, the group says the coronavirus pandemic, high-profile police brutality cases and recent race-based crimes have given the effort a sense of urgency.

The University of Iowa’s College Republicans were temporarily suspended for chalking outside on campus without face masks on. On the evening of May 4, the College Republicans congregated outside to “chalk” slogans on the university’s sidewalks. The student organization — following university protocols — wrote slogans such as “Unborn Lives Matter,” “Jesus Loves You,” and “Blue Lives Matter,” among others. The next morning, the university’s Office of Student Accountability emailed College Republican President Makenzie Jones informing her that the club had been placed on an “interim suspension” following reports that club members were not masked outside.

WASHINGTON — It won’t rival Netflix for drama, but 40 world leaders will try to save the planet from ever-worsening global warming in a two-day climate summit livestreamed for binge viewing. While there will be many faces on screen, this will clearly be President Joe Biden’s show. Biden will convene the summit on Thursday, and what he says will call the shots for what’s to come. He’s trying to show that the United States is again serious about cutting pollution of heat-trapping gases with a new American goal for reducing emissions. Then he’ll try to cajole other nations to ratchet up the pollution-cutting promises

WASHINGTON — The Biden administration on Wednesday announced a resumption of U.S. assistance to the Palestinians, including to the U.N. agency that deals with Palestinian refugees, nearly all of which had been eliminated under President Donald Trump. The State Department said it would provide a total of $235 million to projects in the West Bank and Gaza as well as to the U.N. Relief and Works Agency, or UNRWA. The administration had previously announced $15 million for the Palestinians to combat the coronavirus pandemic. The resumption in assistance has met opposition in Congress from pro-Israel lawmakers, who say the money may violate U.S. law.

WASHINGTON — Without coming right out and saying it, President Joe Biden seems ready to let lapse a May 1 deadline for completing a withdrawal of U.S. troops from Afghanistan. Orderly withdrawals take time, and Biden is running out of it. Biden has inched so close to the deadline that his indecision amounts almost to a decision to put off, at least for a number of months, a pullout of the remaining 2,500 troops and continue supporting the Afghan military at the risk of a Taliban backlash.

When Catherine the Great of Russia traveled in the late 18th-century, her former lover, Grigory Potemkin, would travel ahead of her and build hasty facades along the main thoroughfares in impoverished, bedraggled villages to create the impression of a prosperous nation. Thus, a Potemkin village is a fake that artificially puffs up a leader’s competence and popularity. Two recent videos, one of Biden’s fans turning out to greet him in Michigan and another of Trump’s fans turning out for him in Florida, show that Biden is a Potemkin president. It’s all fake.
