In the last installment of the saga of the runaway Texas Democrats, Gene Wu was crowing about securing an order in Harris County preventing him from being arrested and dragged back to the House so that they could have a quorum, despite the arrest warrants being signed and the House Sergeant at Arms serving them at the offices of the legislators.
From Reuters:
“I was the crash test dummy,” Wu told Reuters from the Houston courthouse on Thursday, where he was helping file applications for the same type of writ for 44 other Democratic lawmakers.
Wu said the writs were temporary, pending the court’s review

Gov. Abbott blew it last year with the over-reaction to the Covid situation. And he knows it. He really alienated a lot of his core voters in the process.
So he has been working over-time the last few months to earn back his conservative credentials. This was a terrible time for these idiot Demon-Rats to think he would fold like a wet card. Nope, he is coming after you with everything he has in his arsenal. The graphics of the big chunk of you being dragged into the House chambers in handcuffs is going to be sweet!!!
Between the idiot scab Demon-Rat House members (who ran away rather than do their elected jobs), and the lie-beral school districts in Texas (that are going to try to go against his orders banning masks for students), he is going to have lots of opportunities to show if he is truly a strong conservative or another panty waisted swamp creature. From what I have seen, he is serious and it's going to be a fun time watching these lie-berals on the receiving end of his wrath!!!!!

It's too bad the only penalty these little babies suffer are being taken back to the house and made to form a quorum. I would like to see an actual felony conviction nailed to their foreheads for their actions.

Yeah, darn it. We never get to enjoy seeing a demoncrat doing a perp walk. They never even get charged with anything. Only Republicans, Christians and patriots get charged, railroaded, and sent to solitary confinement and torture.

At the bare minimum, they should be docked pay for the days they were out and made to reimburse the state for what they spent on their juncket on the taxpayer's dime.

They should be thrown in jail. At that time, the liberals in TX can send them care packages with toothpaste, etc. These liberals thought it was funny to do this. If they are not punished, they will do it again.

The photo op alone would be priceless. However, I am not holding my breath. When have democrats ever been held responsible for anything they do? This is why they can smile. They know that when it all comes down to it, they will be scot free and remembered as heroes by their peers.

It is mentioned that if the democrats are not punished they'll do this again. Remember this is the second time the rats did this they skirted over to Santa Fe, New Mexico one time before for the same reason. Dock the run away rats their pay for days absent and perp walk the cry babies when they return to Texas. Abbott better not play footsie with those disgraceful sissy cowards the same with the fake cowboy dummy Wu.

The AWOL dems are falsely claiming to be protecting voters rights by denying voter integrity legislation the chance to pass. While in the middle of that despicable act, they are actually denying the right of representation to millions of Texas voters who want honest elections, but whose preferences are neutralized by their "escape."
Their actions prove they have zero interest in honest elections, but are obsessed with the preservation of their fraudulent seizure of power.

I think there's a little bit of confusion here and this article doesn't really help.
The Texas Senate passed the vote reform bill 18-4 after a 15 hour filibuster. It now goes BACK to the Texas House for a vote ... but the House must have a quorum to pass legislation.
I believe there are 150 seats in the Texas legislature and there must be 100 representatives "present" on the floor in order to achieve the proper level for a quorum. They need to be "there", i.e., present --- they don't need to vote. Even though there are 80+ Republicans (a clear majority) they still need most of the 60+ Dems there to achieve the proper level quorum.
The Dems are still refusing to walk into the hall --- thus, they are not "present" for the vote. They would be counted as abstentions if they just sit there but the quorum will be achieved. This is why Gov. Abbot wants them arrested and bodily dragged there. They can be bound and gagged ... but the quorum will be reached on the floor and then the majority made up of Republicans can finally pass the legislation.
BTW --- 16 Dems did NOT walk out and did not shirk their duty. However, when added to the Republicans that still makes a total of less than the 100 they need for a quorum.
The Harris County judge ruled the Dems couldn't be arrested and forced to show up and the Texas Supreme Court just overruled him and said they can, indeed, be arrested and forced to be on the House floor ... whether they actually vote or not is immaterial.
The fun will probably happen on Monday.

This walk out is well past its prime. It suffers from a lack of interest. At his point, no one outside of a few in Austin care about their "principles". Civil Rights is not the pure domain of minorities. Cheating in elections is a violation of MY civil rights, the notion of one man, one vote.
I expect the whimper to come soon. The beer is warm and the funds are low. No one in Washington will give them the time of day. As Dandy Don used to lament, "The party's over!" They will come back en masse so no one will take the blame for being 'the one". They will declare victory, and then face defeat. And no one will give a whit.

They're an embarrassment to the every day Texan. There's nothing wrong with this bill, it's no different from what they have in Delaware. These people are attention seekers. Not serious at all, not want you want to have as a representative for your area.

The Dems should be perp-walked into the House Chamber to force the vote, then Gov. Abbott should call for these "runaway Dems" to be removed from office and a special election held due to their job abandonment.

I wonder why state legislatures don't change the rules for quorum to address situations such as this where legislators flee the state in order to prevent a vote. The rules should be changed to say that if legislators run away then the legislature will hold the vote with whoever remains, majority wins. That would put a quick stop to this nonsense.

Criminal offenses and punishments are determined and defined by the Texas Legislature, as is the case in every state as far as I know. Abbott, not a firebrand by nature, tends to get blamed for a lot of things that aren't of his doing. Once Donald Trump decided to enter politics, I began supporting him precisely due to how he was being similarly treated in the media and by the "elite." His policies prompted me to vote for him a second time, despite reservations I had about his chosen subordinates. My view of Abbott is that he's a darned site better than any democrat in Texas or anywhere else but he tends to get hammered by fellow conservatives in a way that I truly do not understand, especially since anyone pointing out a Trump misstep invites wholesale criticism normally reserved for hard core progressives.
