A top Catholic Church official has resigned after it was alleged that he was a regular user of gay dating app Grindr and frequented LGBTQ bars. On Tuesday, Monsignor Jeffrey Burrill resigned as General Security of the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops, after media reports alleged 'possible improper behavior' the National Catholic Reporter reported. Catholic news site The Pillar said it had analyzed data linked to his cellphone which alleged he had used Grindr.(Snip)He was the highest-ranking American cleric who is not a bishop. In addition, Burrill is a priest of the Diocese of La Crosse, Wisconsin.

Comments:

Unbelievable. Then again, any number of fundamentally transformed so-called Christian churches would welcome him with open arms.

Why was he allowed to resign?? He should have been dragged out by the collar immediately, with no concern for dignity or civility. And is this rich, or what: "...He was responsible for helping to coordinate the U.S. bishops' response to the Church's 2018 sexual abuse and coercion scandals..."

Just become an Episcopalian, Monsignor. Episcopalians don't care whether you're gay or not. Just don't diddle with kiddies or take advantage of anyone. There's not a lot to do in Wisconsin. Stare at cows? Eat cheese? Beautiful state. Maybe Monsignor just needed a little dance bar relief.

This is nothing new. The Catholic Seminaries have become rife with homosexual activity. A lot of young men worry about their sexuality and think a life of celibacy will take care of the ambivalence. They go to seminary and get fully recruited into homosexuality. If they weren’t fully gay when they went in, they will be by the time they graduate.

#11, The Catholic Church mandates celibacy from its clergy, in theory at least. In practice it has become as big a joke as expecting fidelity from Bill Clinton. This high hypocrisy has undercut the Church's teaching on morality, at a time when society most needs that moral compass.

FTA, from Archbishop José Gomez of Los Angeles, "What was shared with us did not include allegations of misconduct with minors." Does he say this because of the many scandals with gay priests molesting boys, or because gay men in general have a special fondness for boys? The latter is on deck to become normalized in american society; give it a few years and it will be no big deal, just a lifestyle choice, if not something they were "born with."

Anyone who has romantic urges that he can't (or won't) keep strictly to himself should not present himself for ordination to Catholic priesthood. No hook-up bars, no dating apps, etc. -- period. Getting ordained won't make a man celibate, any more than getting married will make him faithful to his wife.

When I was growing up in 58 as a 13 yo, I heard my older brother's friend say he was going to have sex w as many girls as possible, because a month later he was going to be a priest. Even then I knew that it was wrong and said so. Even Paul in the New Testament tells men that if they can be celibate, to marry, don't sin. It's really sad. Catholics believe the catholic was set up by Jesus Christ. But if you study the history of the Church it has gone through and done some horrendous things. It makes a person think that if there is a God, a Christ and a Holy Spirit why does He allow this to happen to the Church he formed.? IMO that is why so many are leaving.

#25, your answer is called the "permissive will of God" in Christian Theology. Sin and evil are in this world, not because of God, but because of the father of lies, Satan, the fallen angel. God does not interfere with the free will decisions of man, and we see the results of that every day all around us. God's desire for mankind is to express personal faith in His Son, the Lord Jesus Christ, to learn His Word from a qualified Pastor-Teacher, and to grow in grace, advancing in the spiritual life.

A federal judge blocked a West Virginia law banning transgender athletes from competing in girls sports, saying the legislation likely runs afoul of the Constitution. Judge Joseph R. Goodwin, a Clinton appointee, said if West Virginia wants to treat people differently, there must be a compelling reason to do so. “I have been provided with scant evidence that this law addresses any problem at all, let alone an important problem,” the judge wrote in a 15-page opinion. West Virginia Gov. Jim Justice, a Republican, signed the Save Women’s Sports bill in April. The legislation requires the state’s public schools to allow biological females only to compete in girls sports.
