The Atlantic Is Hemorrhaging Money Post-Trump

Original Article

Posted By: Dreadnought, 7/15/2021 1:03:57 AM

After the 2016 election, a flurry of reports noted Donald Trump’s election was breathing new life into our decaying media industry now that they had important work to do, in a quest to save America from tangerine-tinged fascism. Via NBC News, here’s an update on how that’s working out at one of America’s prestige publications: Nicholas Thompson, the chief executive of The Atlantic, gave a presentation to employees last month in which he disclosed some uncomfortable truths about the state of the magazine. Subscription growth, which had skyrocketed in 2020 thanks to the Covid-19 pandemic and the presidential election, had come back down to earth.

t's not only the media, pro sports has been devastated by over 30% in "important" games and even worse in regular attendance and viewership. Hollywood insiders are admitting that the movie industry is all but defunct due to the collective wokeness of actors as well as producers and directors. Record low award show viewership proves the general loss of interest. Woke corporations are seeing lost business and name brand products that went all in for the George Floyd sainthood are suffering. Disney is in a panic and has chosen to increase prices to make up the losses, a really bright strategy. It's not nice to fool American Patriots, knuckle-dragging flyover country folks and domestic terrorists, that's where all the money is.

The Atlantic considers itself a thoughtful, intellectual magazine for a highr class of people. It is easier for them to be against Donald Trump than to write an intellectually honest article for Joe Biden and his destructive policies. Also, the PBS crowd that reads the Atlantic probably expects a new tote bag or other gift to renew their overpriced subscription.

From the article regarding the Atlantic's demise: "Left unsaid, of course, is how foregoing all sense of ethics, propriety, restraint, and good judgment possibly hurt their business model." Someone needs to tell the Marxist media that ceaseless lies and distortions are not a good "business model," but of course they can't help themselves. They are consumed by hate.

Somewhere, someone is deriving some share of $50 million "lost" by The Atlantic. Enterprises are often just a vehicle for tax "loopholes" and other perks. White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki started a hullabaloo yesterday by admitting that they had been in “frequent contact” with Facebook to “flag misinformation” to get Facebook to take down information about the Wuhan coronavirus that they considered “misinformation” and to ban users. Today, she doubled down on that and said that people banned on one platform should be banned on all platforms, an especially troubling thing to say when the government is in constant contact with social media to flag and ban people. Then Joe Biden made an insane comment on his way to his helicopter at the the White House that Facebook was “killing people.”

There were nearly 190,000 migrant encounters at the southern border in June, Customs and Border Protection (CBP) announced Friday — yet another rise in what were already sky-high border numbers, and bringing the total of encounters in fiscal year (FY) 2021 to more than 1 million. CBP said that 188,829 migrants were encountered at the southern border, an increase from the 180,034 encountered in May. It is also a sharp rise since when President Biden took office — there were 78,442 encounters in January.

A federal judge issued an injunction on Friday ordering the Biden administration to cease accepting applications to the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program. The program, initially established in 2012 under the Obama administration, allows illegal immigrants brought to the U.S. as children to defer deportation for two years and to renew the deferral, as well as to receive work permits. DACA recipients are not granted a path to citizenship. The Department of Homeland Security “violated the [Administrative Procedure Act] with the creation of DACA and its continued operation,” Judge Andrew Hanen of the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Texas wrote in a ruling on Friday.

Joe “Grandpa Disaster” Biden was at it again today during his briefing with German Chancellor Angela Merkel at the White House today. Biden definitely seemed to be having a hard time with basic coherence. In his homage to her years of service, he mistakenly called her the “second largest” but then corrected that to the “second longest” serving chancellor. Largest and longest are both good words, but hardly interchangeable and certainly not the best word to use here when referring to Merkel. He then said that they needed to “upend” their “global climate ambitions.”

Usually when a migrant is picked up at the border and makes a claim of asylum, the border patrol processes those claims and gives the migrants a “notice to appear” in a specific court at a specific time. But back in April the Associated Press reported that because of the big surge of migrants at the border, many were being released into the interior of the country with just an instruction which told them to report to an ICE facility within 60 days for processing: The Border Patrol began the unusual practice last week in Texas’ Rio Grande Valley, which has seen the biggest increase

The Washington Post reports, with obvious dismay, that American Airlines, Cigna, Aflak, and other corporations are once again making campaign contributions to legislators who opposed certifying Joe Biden’s victory in the 2020 election. The corporations in question stopped contributing to these members after the events of January 6 this year. However, with the possible exception of Cigna, they didn’t say they would never again contribute to any of them. The companies merely paused their contributions. Thus, the subtitle of the Post’s article — “The flow of money is a sign that corporate America’s promises were temporary” — is nonsensical. The “promises” were “temporary” on their face. American Airlines said it would pause

The prominent historian C. Vann Woodward saw The Strange Career of Jim Crow through three editions. Originally published in 1955, the book was last updated in a third revised edition published in 1974. I believe it remains a useful book for anyone seeking to understand the phenomenon and its legacy. Indeed, as Woodward sought to keep the book current, I think that each of the three editions of the book is useful for this purpose (and that all of his books are worth reading). In the preface to the first edition Woodward explained that the lectures were delivered at the University of Virginia in 1954. “They were given before unsegregated

ROME — Pope Francis cracked down Friday on the spread of the old Latin Mass, reversing one of Pope Benedict XVI’s signature decisions in a major challenge to traditionalist Catholics who immediately decried it as an attack on the ancient liturgy. Francis reimposed restrictions on celebrating the Latin Mass that Benedict relaxed in 2007. The pontiff said he was taking action because Benedict’s reform had become a source of division in the church and been used as a tool by Catholics opposed to the Second Vatican Council, the 1960s meetings that modernized the liturgy. Francis issued a new law requiring individual bishops to approve celebrations of the old Mass

Fixing the 2020 election requires more than Biden has to offer. Real reform requires going after the people who put Biden in office. We are once again being warned of incoming dangers, particularly for coastal regions, as sea levels rise and the tides become higher and stronger. Normally, the next two words following such a dire forecast would be “climate change,” but now there’s a different cause being given. The moon will be starting to “wobble” more in its orbit in the next decade, exerting a greater gravitational pull on the oceans, so tides will continue to grow higher for the following ten years before slowly beginning to recede again. When you combine these accelerated tides with higher ocean levels (that’s the part they’ll blame on climate change)
