Louisiana Gov. John Bel Edwards vetoed a bill passed by the bipartisan state lawmakers that would have nixed the permit requirement for carrying a concealed handgun.
The governor, a Democrat, said he’s a strong supporter of the Second Amendment and an “enthusiastic outdoorsman and hunter,” but he can’t support permitless concealed carry.
“I simply cannot support carrying a concealed carry firearm without proper education and safety training,” he said in a statement. “Our current system strikes the right balance of ensuring that people can bear arms while also keeping reasonable permitting and training processes in place …

What is wrong with the people of Louisiana? How did this lie-beral Demon-Rat get elected governor there?!?!?!?
Hopefully the legislature will over-ride the veto and put him in his place -- until the voters can truly put him in his place (which is to never serve in public office i Louisiana again)!!!

The safety course and fire arm training is easy and it takes a little time and effort, both my wife and I did it on a Saturday morning. We have a lifetime permit. I'm not sure the training and the fire arm safety course isn't a good idea. While we were there a woman couldn't pass the test at the ranger (hitting a target at 6 feet 80% of 60 shots). I don't want that woman with a gun if she can't hit a target 6 feet away.

I have to do 8-hours every 5 years in Illinois, #2. It's an infringement. State laws cannot supersede the 2nd Amendment, even though there are 20,000+ that do.
The only legal action states can pursue is to follow the Constitution. Requiring me to have a permit to exercise a Constitutional right is unconstitutional, regardless of how well-meaning the intent may be. If people feel that 2A needs to be modified to include mandatory training and/or permits to carry a weapon, then there are two recourses: Pass a constitutional amendment, or open a constitutional convention.
The right to keep and bear arms, unfettered from the constraints of government, is one of the highest rights ensconced in and affirmed by the USC. The founders called it out above just about every other God given right. No amount of rationalizing, nor well-meaning intent, changes that.

Goobernor Lockdown loves to control people. The largest slaughter houses in LA are NOLA and Baton Rouge. Guess what, there is an unwritten no permit law there. Gangbangers never worry about the silly permit. But let a law abiding citizen have the same right, well can't have that. There are many bills Goobernor Lockdown has veto and there is a better than usual chance the legislature will hold a veto session to override his vetos. Might get interesting in LA soon.

Our legislature had to override our Dem governor to get our concealed carry.
Override!

I'm not against anybody (except a felon) from owning a gun, but to carry it on the streets should take some simple training, bullets are dumb if you miss your target you could make matters worse.

Most of the training I've seen is Boy Scout level common sense, don't point the gun at anybody, always treat it like it's loaded... etc. A gun permit should accomplish one thing, keep guns and lunatics separated.

I believe my governor is racist. This veto adversely affects law abiding Blacks, more than other citizens.
