Here’s a fun read to prepare for our sacred July 4th Independence Day:
How patriotic is the state where you live? Or wish you did? Or grew up in?
The folks over at the personal finance service WalletHub.com devised an imaginative matrix to determine Patriotism by State. [Snip] The findings are timely given our divisive politically-partisan days and also revealing about the demographic characteristics of each political subdivision of our nation. The results both support some popular beliefs and dispel others. Overall, it turns out: Red states are the most patriotic and

While there are some exceptions, of course, it would seem to me that the higher the percentage of blacks and Hispanics the lower the patriotism.

These are the “fun” “surveys” that serve no good purpose because they tend to divide us rather than unite us. Patriotism is very individual, in my opinion. Not something that can be broadbrushed by a website. If patriotism is about flying our flag, I’d say our community - said to be 60 Asian now - is extremely patriotic. We see flags up on some homes year-round; on others, on special days.
A nearby community has a little home-grown Fourth of July parade. Does that make the community patriotic? Or do the local politicians like to use it as a showcase that allows them to ride down the main street in a convertible plastered with signs and wave? Are the dogs who join the parade patriotic?
This is another silly Malcolm article...

Patriotism, as Dr. Samuel Johnson used to say, is the last refuge of scoundrels. It seems to in today's America Social Justice has taken its place.

How the hell did Maryland and Vermont get in the top five of the most patriotic states? Maryland is California east, and Vermont as I understand it isn't far behind in the socialist list.

Vermont?!? Home of raving socialist Bernie Sanders? I’m surprised they haven’t banned the Stars and Stripes in that state.

I'm not a Texan but I don't believe the BS about Texas being on the list of the least patriotic states. I agree with others that the criteria have been slanted.

Not sure how accurate this is. I guess whoever conducted this survey has never been to Louisiana or other coastal states after a hurricane. We've always helped those who were hurt or lost everything. I remember schools collecting clothes and food for families who lost everything. We'd bring in our donations and trucks would load up and head off. Now there is the Cajun Navy and they are an outstanding group, often going to nearby states to help after disasters there. Most people in most states are willing to help others.

Well #8, I am a Texan and I give these surveys little credence. However, Texas is gigantic with a huge urban population of minorities. It matters. We have a retirement cabin in the Ozarks. Since being there three years, we have never seen so many Flags all year, huge veteran support all year, small town huge participation in the Fourth of July and huge population of conservative Christian veterans YET this state did not make it to the top of this survey either. Boo on the survey!

Double Hogwash. Washington and Oregon being in the top ten have had ongoing, unchecked looting, rioting and murders since the drug-death of George Floyd. Not just Antifa and Black Looters & Murderers but the idiot politicians who continue to allow it to happen. That is not patriotism. Maryland, Vermont, New Hampshire and Virginia, four others in the top ten are liberal cesspools. Somebody needs to define some real criteria.

Their methodology is pure garbage. They operationalize the concept of patriotism, using three very odd variables with a high degree of subjectivity. Their community volunteerism rate is speciously calculated and would not include faith-based volunteers unless the "faith" is Islam. Who is going to believe their voter participation rate criterion, especially after Nov 2020? The number of military veterans sounds plausible, but there is no accounting if that means military retirees or the state from which someone joined the military and I can only infer that all of those buried in National Cemeteries or MIA don't count. The only thing that makes any sense is the statement that "Red states are the most patriotic."
