A report on the origins of COVID-19 by a U.S. government national laboratory concluded that the hypothesis claiming the virus leaked from a Chinese lab in Wuhan is plausible and deserves further investigation, The Wall Street Journal reported on Monday, citing people familiar with the classified document. The study was prepared in May 2020 by the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory in California and was referred by the State Department when it conducted an inquiry into the pandemic's origins during the final months of the Trump administration, the report https://on.wsj.com/2RuLtkC said. Lawrence Livermore's assessment drew on genomic analysis

Biden's 2022 budget wokeness: Mothers are
now "birthing people"

Why are woke Democrats waging a war on women? Joe Biden is embracing a particularly disturbing term for women who give birth. While most of us call these women ‘mothers’, the woke insist on a new terminology- birthing people. Just when we think the destruction of the English language can’t get any worse, someone says “Hold my beer.” Joe Biden’s FY2022 budget, a $6 trillion monstrosity, addresses the maternal mortality rate in the United States. The section begins by using traditional wording such as maternal and woman. Then toward the end, there is a shift to gender neutral language.

On Tuesday’s broadcast of the Fox News Channel’s “Special Report,” Sen. Shelley Moore Capito (R-WV) stated that during negotiations over an infrastructure package, “we offered the president basically what he asked us to do the first time we met with him, which was a trillion dollars over eight years, including baseline spending.” And that despite Republicans drawing a red line on tax increases, “the last offer that I got from the president had four tax increases in it.” Capito said, “Well, the president ended the talks today with me on a very cordial call. I am extremely disappointed. Because we offered the president basically what he asked us to do

Several weeks ago I read a wonderful column by my old pal Gerry Baker of the Wall Street Journal. It was titled, “Did Biden Peak on Inauguration Day? Covid confusion, Mideast chaos and the threat of inflation — He doesn’t have many victories to point to.” That question is reinforced by the Journal’s Kim Strassel, in a column Friday titled “Biden’s Agenda Hits a Senate Wall: The Parliamentarian nixes Schumer’s plan to evade the filibuster via ‘reconciliation.’” Much of the economic and stock market outlook for the remainder of this year and next would be determined by responses to these questions. The economy is in great shape

Joe Biden’s top priority since passing his economy-crushing boondoggle of a COVID “relief bill” has been to get an infrastructure package done. The problem is that the filibuster exists, and while Joe Manchin was willing to push through the first monstrosity via reconciliation, he’s said he doesn’t want to do that again. That means that Republican votes are almost certainly going to be needed to get anything done. Enter West Virginian Sen. Shelley Moore Capito, who has been acting as the chief negotiator for the GOP regarding the matter. Capito is now saying that Joe Biden has blown up negotiations after initially asking Republicans to submit a $1 trillion

A number of major websites, including those of news outlets like The New York Times, CNN and the BBC have returned to full functionality after experiencing an hour-long outage this morning. The culprit was identified as a content delivery network operated by Fastly Inc. At 6 a.m. ET, sites went dark due to an issue at Fastly. The outages appear to be unrelated to recent ransom attacks and hacks of a number of public and private computer systems. In addition the news sites, Amazon, Reddit, Twitch as well as streaming services HBO Max and Hulu also saw glitches. Also affected were Stack Overflow, GitHub, gov.uk, Quora, PayPal, Vimeo, Shopify and Stripe.

Texas Gov. Greg Abbott has signed House Bill 2497 into law. That bill, sponsored by state Rep. Tan Parker, codifies educating Texas school kids on what makes Texas Texas. In a video of the signing, Gov. Abbott said “We must never forget why Texas became so exceptional in the first place.” 1836 refers to the year Texas joined widespread rebellions across Mexico against dictator Santa Anna and won its independence. The law would promote the history of Texas from pre-history through the Spanish colonial period, through its years as a state within Mexico, to its revolution and beyond. Democrats might want to take a look at this one. Because this shows just how much trouble they are in with Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis. They’ve done all they could, inventing different ways to attack him, it seems, every week. But it only seems to be helping to build him up more and feeding his profile to the Republican base. That showed, clearly when he was called out on stage last night at Panama City Beach, at the 2021 Gulf Coast Jam. The media and elected Democrats, from President Biden on down, are really pushing as hard as they can on Senators Joe Manchin and Kyrsten Sinema. They seem to have redoubled their efforts this week after Manchin announced he would not vote for the Dems’ voting rights bill. This morning Ed wrote about Rep. Jamaal Bowman comparing Manchin to Mitch McConnell, though as Ed noted Bowman couldn’t explain who besides Manchin could win the Senate seat for Democrats in conservative West Virginia. The Washington Post published two opinion pieces today about Manchin. Greg Sargent’s is headlined, “How Joe Manchin’s awful new stance could blow up in his face.” Jennifer Rubin

Washington — The federal government has recovered millions of dollars in cryptocurrency paid in ransom to cybercriminals whose attack prompted the shutdown of the country's largest fuel pipeline and gas shortages across the southeastern U.S. last month, the Department of Justice announced Monday. On May 8, Colonial Pipeline paid a ransom worth roughly $4.3 million in bitcoin to the Russia-based hacking group known as DarkSide, which had used malicious software to hold the company hostage. Colonial Pipeline CEO Joseph Blount told The Wall Street Journal that the company paid the pricey ransom because the company feared a prolonged shutdown

Kamala Harris is under some kind of pressure. It's hard to say what, given the working thesis (first seen in a tweet by Newt Gingrich) that Joe Biden appointed her to the position of border czar because he knew she would do nothing. But it's pretty obvious there were signs of strain in her face as she met with the president of Guatemala on Monday and then held a dual press conference. She looked like hell. Here are some camera shots from the NBC News report on the television set: [Snip for pictures] She actually looks pretty lost, uncertain, way out of her comfort zone. Not ready for prime time.

It was purchased by the City of Thornton from a local store that went out of business. It was moved to Carpenter Park in 2013.
