Mary Kay Letourneau, the former Seattle-area schoolteacher who was at the center of a national scandal in the 1990s when she was convicted of raping her sixth-grade student whom she later married, has died, her attorney confirmed to KOMO News Tuesday night. Letourneau lost a battle with cancer, her attorney, David Gehrke, said. Letourneau was a former Highline teacher who passed away after being ill for some time. She was 58. "It was expected but sad anyway," Gehrke said. "She was a good person.“Letourneau generated international headlines when she admitted to a relationship with Vili Fualaau, who was her sixth-grade student at the time.

Comments:

She was one sick puppy and should have spent a lot more time in prison than 7 years.

RIP. A tough way to go, regardless. I have trouble condemning her. The young man that she was involved with married her and the seem to have genuinely loved each other. Yeah, and age difference, and yeah, some say that the young man was taken advantage of. But, I can't quite tell that from a distance. He seemed to be happy, she seemed to be happy. Happiness is a hard thing to find in this world. I'm not going to get real upset if two people find happiness in an 'unapproved' way. At least they were the opposite sex, and the only issue was age difference.

Nothing good or noble about Letourneau's "love" for a 12 year old and everything bad for abandoning her husband and four little children and causing chaios in her school. She was a misery multiplier.

Her marrying her victim is no different than the French president Macron marrying his molester in a show of defiance to the world. She committed a crime, abused her position. Cancer is not pretty, but I will shed no tears for her. She destroyed her family and victimized a young man.

This is a sobering story and has been from the first we heard. Letourneau was a child molester. If she had been a male molesting a 12 yaer old little girl, she would have still been in priso when she died. Terrible woman.

This is a sad story all around and you can see some liberal responses here from posters. She had no business doing what she did especially when she has a husband and children. Just to be clear, my definition of liberal: a rejection of God's ways especially His Ten Commandments. It is too bad that people have moved away from reading the Bible. It helps us in daily living and understanding what is going on but I am probably being a broken record so I will leave it at what I have said. Truly sad with what is going on in society with people. . .

In Muslim culture, if a man rapes a woman he can escape punishment by marrying her. Sorta what happened here?

This woman certainly paid for her sins; first in prison, now from cancer. I pray for her eternal life. I would not wish cancer or the treatment on anyone.

After spending several hours behind bars Wednesday, Rashyla Levitt returned Thursday to the streets, protesting and confronting authorities just a day after Seattle Police Department officers swept through the area that had been known as the Capitol Hill Occupied Protest. “We are back with the fire and we are ready to go,” she said. Levitt was one 44 people arrested early Wednesday morning in Capitol Hill as police moved in during a predawn operation that pushed a handful of demonstrators from the area. Police charged Levitt with failure to disperse, but since it was only a misdemeanor, the judge released her. The hasty release raised questions about if the protesters would quickly reassemble.

How many Republican Senators voted for it? Zero. Why? It’s because Trump still controls them. They’re still afraid of him.

The statement comes after several states have passed laws preventing biological males from competing in girls’ athletics.
