Austin’s Revolt against a Homelessness Surge

Original Article

Austin, Texas, enjoys a well-deserved image as a cool and rapidly growing city, with great food, nightlife, a booming tech industry, the University of Texas, and major events such as Austin City Limits music festival, South by Southwest, and Formula 1. But over the past two years it has gained a new reputation: a city with a homelessness crisis, fueled by a misbegotten “camping” policy. On July 1, 2019, a public-camping ordinance took effect that made unregulated, open public camping lawful in nearly all public spaces in Austin. The consequences were profound immediately.

Austin is a cesspool of lie-beralism. It's pretty, but the politics are terrible. A few years ago, the city changed from all at-large city council seats to districts. So, by some miracle, we actually got a conservative elected from our part of town. The hard-core lie-berals from the other districts basically shunned her and wouldn't work with her at all. She quit after one term. It was useless. So when things got so bad that the very lie-beral voters of Austin actually voted to ban public camping, that was a major miracle. And, of course, our commie mayor and city council is so mad at the peasants for daring to rebuke them, that they are already looking for ways to get around our election victory. One more year, and we are so gone from this lie-beral cesspool!!!!!

Must be those homeless moved into the elitist section; otherwise Austin wouldn't have a problem. God forbid they would have to reap what they've sown.

Liberals live in a world of magical thinking. They imagine themselves as elite, highly educated, and highly evolved when they are really pretty stupid without a lick of common sense or a basic understanding of human nature, the laws of physics, or simple Math. As a result, their magical thinking tries to reshape human nature, rewrite the laws of physics, and severely deal with any normals who disagree with them. Hence the hellworlds of Austin, Portland, San Francisco, Minneapolis, Seattle, etc. It's living inside an insane asylum...but outdoors, everywhere, and you really can't escape.

From the article... "...Homelessness is a vexing challenge. It involves thorny issues including mental health, drug and alcohol addiction, job training, and one other issue that is often ignored: noncompliance." Did they say "non-compliance"? We parents expect our 4-year-olds to mind.

If the Residents of Austin really want a safe and wonderful city to live in, MAYBE they should kick out those 9 Council Members along with the Mayor and elect Republicans. THEN they would see change! As long as Liberals are running that city, Austin will continue to go down. Yes, they MIGHT get rid of their Homeless problem, but they will allow other equally bad policies to flourish and that is what will take them down!

Just look at the tax rolls for Travis County. Mayor Adler [wealthy trial attorney] owns some very valuable buildings in downtown Austin. If he really cares about homeless bums so much, maybe the locked doors to those buildings could be removed and this valuable resource could be better used for those in need. That way they wouldn't have to ''camp'' on public property outdoors. He has plenty of privilege and money, he should be glad to share his prosperity with those who are less fortunate.

The author still doesn't get it. These non - profits are building free housing for drug addicts and mentally ill people and hardened criminals. Free stuff doesn't work. There should be mental institutions where the homeless mentally ill can be houses, fed, and get proper treatment, drug addicts must required to attend rehabilitation centers and if the refuse, jailed. The criminals need to be arrested, tried and if convicted sentenced to lengthy prison terms. Giving people free stuff doesn't work.

Like its state, Austin, indeed, has a legacy of beautiful surroundings. The difference is that Austin has been a magnet for Liberals who have been influenced by "Progressives". Their ill-conceived law for camping anywhere for any length of time will eliminate the beauty, safety, and healthful area that once was Austin. But, this idea must be good. After all, its working for L.A., San Francisco, Minneapolis, and Seattle.

The COTA track is wonderful. I had a great time a few years back driving a Formula 1 car for a few laps. A very memorable experience. Our time in Austin was .....irritating. Their leftist enviro-whacko culture just makes it a place that I won't want to visit, other than perhaps to return to COTA for other races.

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s (D-CA) campaign committee has repeatedly deceived donors by personally promising she would match campaign contributions but has not matched a single cent, according to a report. Pelosi has been using a popular deceptive tactic used in political fundraising to gather more donations. According to the report by Axios, the tactic that has been under intense scrutiny is to promise donation-matching. Pelosi’s campaign has reportedly gone a step further by the speaker promising the contribution matching would come from her personal fortune. But, reports show Pelosi has not made a single contribution from herself.

Just a thought occasioned by the fact that the United States recorded 13,541 cases yesterday, the lowest single-day number — by far — since the virus started rolling last March. The best we’d managed since April 1, 2020 was one day last June when cases slipped under 19,000 briefly as the country enjoyed a summer respite from its terrible first wave. But testing was still sparse back then. There were probably many infections going undetected. Last June was also the last time we saw a seven-day average in daily cases of 25,000 or lower, again with lower testing. Right now we’re at 25,083. Is this it? The imminent demise of COVID?

A measure long sought by conservative activists allowing Texans to carry handguns without a license is on the cusp of becoming law after the Texas Senate approved a compromise on the bill Monday, sending it to Gov. Greg Abbott. Abbott has said he would sign the permitless carry proposal into law. "We should have 'constitutional carry' in Texas," Abbott told North Texas radio host Rick Roberts in April. Just before midnight Sunday, the House approved the deal, hashed out behind closed doors, in an 82-62 vote. The Senate approved the deal Monday in a 17-13 vote. “This is a simple restoration

We’ve heard about what Barack Obama reportedly thinks about Donald Trump from Edward-Isaac Dovere’s new book Battle for the Soul: Inside the Democrats’ Campaigns to Defeat Donald Trump, but Obama also had some things to say about Joe Biden… and they aren’t very flattering. According to The Daily Mail, which has previewed Dovere’s book, Obama was “dubious” about Biden’s presidential aspirations in 2016. “Obama, for his part, went from assuring his aides not to worry, that his vice president was just working out his grief at his son’s [Beau’s] death by entertaining the fantasy of running for president, to becoming worried that Biden was actually getting lost in his fantasy.”
