Matthew McConaughey may not be acting when he says he’s interested in a run for Texas governor.
The Oscar-winning star of “Dallas Buyers Club” has been making calls to a club of elite politically-connected Texans to talk about getting into the 2022 gubernatorial race, Politico reported Sunday, citing sources.
McConaughey has been talking to “deep-pocketed” moderate Republicans and business leaders in the Lone Star State to gauge their support.

I posted this yesterday, but it was removed. My point from then still stands; he seems like a nice guy, but like all celebrities that flirt with political office, he has yet to state where he stands on today's issues. Anyone can look like good candidate, but you will eventually have to tell the voting public your views and opinions. That's when you lose half of your support.

Sorry, Matt, the "deep-pocketed moderate Republican" segment is Abbott's territory.

Seems like a nice guy, but this goes to prove a point that a lot of elections are merely popularity contests.

To the media who like to stir controversy, he's cooler that Robert Francis O'Rourke.
The picture of him standing on a natural bridge WITH A MASK makes one wonder.....

Republican party needs to rid itself of the Marxist Communist democrat comrades GOPe republicrats in the party, not elect more.
98% of the entertainment industry people are Marxist Communist Globalists dedicated to fundamentally change America into Satan worshiping anti-christs, and if they aren't they are blacklisted by the entertainment industry Marxist Communist democrats, republicrats GOPe who control the industry most of America's federal government.

I saw that picture of him standing masked on a natural bridge where there are only a coyote and a roadrunner. I wouldn’t vote for him.

What is a "moderate Republican"? Is that a pseudonym for RINO?

Matt is all cool and groovy with a hot wife and cute kids but what does he really think about policy stuff? It is easy to be for someone when they are able to spout wise platitudes that sound great but mean nothing when you don't have to make actual policy decisions that effect everyone. When you actually pin McConaughey down on his policy views, you find he does not have any. He will need to actually commit to something. He might not be so popular if he says what he really thinks about some things. Whatever he commits to, he will alienate at least 1/2 of his supporters.

Hey Texas, let's go for a two'fer. Matthew can get Lance Armstrong to buddy up and be his Lt. Governor.

Abbott has his problems...and the rumor going around is McConaughey will run as an independent in the General election. Doing so saves campaign funds, and splits the vote three ways, opening the door to a potential win. Running as a Democrat ala Beto is poison, and it is unlikely he'd unseat Abbott in a primary. Don't sell this short. (Moderate Republicans is code for Bush Family and Friends.)

He seems to be a conservative because he acts like he has conservative Texas 'cowboy' in him and has the patter down, however I think he's acting...he's an actor - and he makes conservative noises, but I have heard and read about him aligning with liberals. So he's unreliable. If we supported him I believe we would be fooled and would regret it. After all, this is Texas we're talking about and that's too important a state to be messing around with. And the person who posted that he has 'one eye on the mirror', ain't that the truth! Don't be seduced.

I think that the best that can be expected of McConaughey is that he would be a Romney republican. Abbott is not perfect but he ain't no Romney and he doesn't have an inner socialist trying to get out.

I've always been stumped to try to understand the devotion of the public to actors and such -- for crying out loud, people, these phonies make gazillions by pretending to be someone else !!

'“And I’m looking into now, what is my leadership role?” McConaughey said. “Because I do think I have some things to teach and share."'
Yes, I'm sure you think you do. But it seems the vast majority of your colleagues feel exactly the same about themselves and they generally end up making fools of themselves when they're called upon to demonstrate same. Maybe you're different, but probably not. The Ronald Reagans are few and far between. In fact, there's been only one.

"..... has been talking to “deep-pocketed” moderate Republicans".....
'Moderate Republicans', eh?
Now.... where have I heard that phrase before?
Hmmmm......
Ah, yes, that's Media doublespeak code for the likes of Romney, McCain, etc., etc.
Sounds like we can 'pencil in' to write this guy off, pending further information.

Re: Abbott running again. He won't. He's in his second term. Texas governors are limited to 2 terms. The Lt. Gov. is the one with the power. I dont know if Dan Patrick will run for Governor, but he's turned into a moderate Republican as well. That's the incumbent that the actor will have to run against.
Matthew has too much flash. He's a fun actor to watch but I dont trust him any more than a naked man playing bongos...whooops....

Same guy always hangs with far left Hollywood hacks and appeared in that whiny disgraceful video singing "I Will Survive" with a bunch of whiny Hollywood clowns when Trump was elected in 2016.
No thanks.

I know nothing about his personal social/political, viewpoints. If he's a 'conservative' in Texas, he has a legitimate chance. If he's one of those 'leftist/Marxist pro-abortion, Democrat types ... forget it.
