Common sense isn’t common anymore

Original Article

I’m on vacation. No TV, no computer, just my phone, my iPad, my kids, and my grandchildren -- although, of course, I still skim the headlines every day. I am also seeing how eerily familiar the way people in another state are living, but it’s another blue state, so I guess I shouldn’t be surprised. Since the trip began, I’ve been struck by the abject abandonment of common sense in favor of rote obedience to absurd rules. We are trained monkeys, following senseless pronouncements that improve nothing. Start with the airport. For some reason, my TSA Pre-check status didn’t make it onto my ticket.

Common sense is so rare these days, it should be treated as a superpower.

FYI, Mr Paulding, common sense never was common. You must be confusing this planet with the one you and I came from.

The last sentence: “ What will happen to us now that our hyper-educated, self-styled elite have dedicated themselves to the abolition of common sense?” Either they die (as in a REAL insurrection), or we die in bondage.

I call it God sense and God tells us that wisdom only comes from Him. So if you have a political party taking God out of society, guess what happens to God sense. Boy are we getting a close-up view of it. . .

Could the goal be to kill the economy, tourism and the airline industry? If so, good job. I'm done with airplane travel, and will only vacation in Florida now. “Give me your tired, your poor, your huddled masses yearning to breathe free." How appropriate 100 years later!

One more thing, Mr. Paulding. If your ticket doesn’t have your TSA pre-check status printed on it, you can go to the ticket counter before you go through TSA and they will print you a new ticket with pre-check on it. I’ve done it several times in my business travels.

I am feeling an eerie resemblance to the twilight zone on my visit to California. So many people marching about outside with their highly stylized face diapers on themselves and children. I made sure to wear my 1/2 face shield in all stores and smile broadly at everyone I could make eye contact with and greet them with a hearty hello or good day. Many sideway glances, nary a negative comment, and a few righteous who made the 12’ circumnavigation around me. I cannot figure out if many of them keep their masks on to prove they are unvaccinated or in submission to the new edict. I’m safe for I identify as fully vaccinated !

Common sense was never really very common, but in the past most people assumed they didn't know what they were talking about so kept their mouths shut. Today everyone assumes they know what they're talking because our educational system has brainwashed them into thinking the off-the-top-off-their-head opinion is just as important as someone else who has spent years, decades or their entire lives formulating their opinion. They feel fully empowered to spout off at every opportunity especially on social media. People used to embarrassed by being ignorant. Today people aren't embarrassed by anything so saying or doing stupid, ridiculous or illogical things is passed off without a thought.

Supreme Court shuts down police attempts to

The Supreme Court on Monday shut down a police attempt to enter homes without a warrant, siding against the Biden administration. The court, in a unanimous decision, found that police, using the "community caretaking" exception to the Fourth Amendment's prohibitions on unreasonable searches and seizures, were not allowed to enter a Rhode Island man's home and take his guns. Justice Clarence Thomas wrote the court's opinion, saying that police had violated the "very core of the Fourth Amendment." The case arose out of a 2015 incident in which a Rhode Island married couple argued over attempted suicide.

Texas recorded zero COVID-19 deaths on Sunday, months after President Joe Biden criticized the state for relaxing pandemic restrictions too soon. State healthcare data shows that the state’s zero COVID death day was its first in about 14 months. The state also saw a 13-month low in cases and an 11-month low in hospitalizations, according to Gov. Greg Abbott. “Thanks, Texans!” Abbott said in a Twitter post accompanied by the new data. The news comes just two months after Biden accused the state of “Neanderthal thinking” for relaxing restrictions earlier than other states, including ending the mask mandate and allowing businesses to open at 100% capacity.
States are wise to turn down Biden's poison
unemployment money

It is quite rare to see a state turn down federal money. It is rarer still to see states turn it down in the name of improving their own economies. Fortunately, several states are now doing just that. Why? Because President Joe Biden’s economic stimulus is making what’s rational for workers irrational for the economy as a whole. At this point, the fact is unavoidable: The Biden administration’s foolish decision to extend increased unemployment benefits through the summer is clearly retarding the job market’s recovery. It made sense to pay out something to workers in exchange for government restrictions on their livelihood.

We are already seeing colleges and universities requiring the COVID-19 vaccine for students to attend classes in the fall. The vaccine is being tested for children under 16, and there may be school districts that attempt to require it in the fall. All of this pressure to vaccinate the young, given their relative resilience to severe disease and near-zero fatality rate from COVID-19, is unprecedented. The health bureaucracy is not nearly as insistent about the flu vaccine, even though it often makes children much sicker and often carries higher fatality rates in children.

Critical race theory is the absurd idea that the United States is a fundamentally racist country and that our society is designed to uphold white supremacy. While the reasonable among us dismiss this idea, schools across the country are teaching it and big liberal corporations like Disney and Coca-Cola have tried pushing it. And sadly, it seems like our nation’s “top infectious disease expert” is pushing it, too. Over the weekend, Dr. Anthony Fauci delivered a virtual commencement address to the graduates of Emory University.

Norfolk, Va., police Lieutenant William Kelly lost his job last month after a data breach at the crowdfunding site GiveSendGo revealed that Kelly had contributed to help the legal defense of Kyle Rittenhouse, the then-17-year-old boy who opened fire amid riots in Kenosha, Wisc., seemingly in self-defense. Rittenhouse faces murder charges in the deaths of two men. On May 7, Kelly’s lawyers filed a due process grievance against the decision to fire him, demanding a full reinstatement, restoration of benefits and seniority, and more. Kelly had been 10 months shy of 20 years with the department. At that point, he could have received retirement savings without a penalty.

I’m in one of those moods where I wish there weren’t editors or language standards, because there are quite a few leftists I’d really like to encourage to go “make love” to themselves and end it in an unpleasant way. Since this is a column and not a book, and there are editors and language standards, I’ll limit my fire to just one, Dr. Anthony Fauci, save the rest for later, temper my language a bit and make expeditious use of the thesaurus. Remember the old 1970s sitcom "Welcome Back, Kotter"? It aired on ABC from 1975 to 1979. The president of the United States throughout half that period was the infamous peanut-farmer-turned-worst-president-ever Jimmy Carter. Perfect timing. Because 2021 is clearly the new 1977. The new version of that sitcom is "Welcome Back, Carter. Except Add Dementia." It stars our current president, Joe "Basement" Biden, as today's hapless, pathetic, destructive Jimmy Carter. Basement Biden and Jimmy Carter are alike in so many ways it's almost surreal.

I love dogs — I’m pretty sure we’ve established that. And I would even go so far as to argue I know them pretty well, though I’m certainly no dog whisperer. In all my years of walking dogs, I had never before heard (or considered) a valuable tip I learned today at church. Yes, I said at church. Stay with me here. Today’s lesson was another from Nehemiah — we’ve spent several weeks in that book. Specifically, it was on Nehemiah Chapter 9, in which the Israelites confess their sins and offer a prayer that summarizes much of the Old Testament and the relationship between God and His chosen people.

The media went into a frenzy this weekend when the bonny Prince Harry gave a huge harrumph to the First Amendment. On a show appropriately called the "Armchair Expert," Harry declared the First Amendment "bonkers" and expressed frustration about how it protects the media in its "feeding frenzy" over his life. Harry’s criticism of the First Amendment can be dismissed as the unfamiliarity of a royal refugee. However, it is actually far more serious than that. Harry and his American wife Meghan Markle have attacked media rights in England and succeeded under the laws of the United Kingdom. They are now joining a growing anti-free speech movement

He doesn’t take crap from opponents but refuses to engage in petty squabbles.

Israeli warplanes unleashed another wave of heavy airstrikes on the Gaza Strip Monday, destroying about 60 miles of militant tunnels and the homes of nine Hamas commanders — and also killing a senior Islamic Jihad leader, the military said. IDF spokesman Lt. Col. In a statement, the IDF said Harbeed “was behind several anti-tank missile terror attacks against Israeli civilians.”

For decades engineers have used petroleum to make everyday products. It's still commonly used in everything from rubbers and plastics to chemicals and asphalt. But this useful product comes from crude oil, which is often criticized by activists and experts as harmful to the environment, citing oil spills and fracking incidents. Recent studies from the last decade have shown that petroleum isn't as efficient as some once thought. Now, companies, engineers and scientists aim to replace it with plant-based oils, specifically soybeans. The Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co. recently announced its goal to replace all petroleum-based products with soybean oil by 2040.

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - A judge has tossed the case against one of 18 people cited in Colorado Springs after a Black Lives Matter protest on Interstate 25, calling it a violation of her free-speech rights. El Paso County Court Senior Judge Stephen Sletta on Wednesday dismissed the lone misdemeanor filed against 21-year-old Molly Avion. In a two-page ruling, he found that the state statute used against her — which makes it illegal to obstruct highways — was overly broad in a way that could chill the exercise of the First Amendment and invite “arbitrary” enforcement.CORRECTIONS*
