Is Big Business Now A Greater Threat
To Free Speech Than Government?

Original Article

Posted By: Imright, 4/23/2021 5:48:22 PM

As I wrote in a preceding essay, the First Amendment was written to limit the government’s power. In the 18th century, only the state was conceived as possibly wielding the power to keep free people from speaking their minds. Thus, if maintaining a free people requires free speech, it followed that the government must be kept from controlling speech. For a long time, no more was necessary, but that would change. As the United States grew in population and prosperity, there was very little agitation against business. There did not need to be. Most businesses were small affairs, owned by one man or one family, employing a handful of workers.

The writer misses the point. We're a Marxist nation now, controlled by them top to bottom, exactly as they promised to do back in 1963. Various selections germane here, in particular the last one. They all march in lockstep, from the churches to the schools to the businesses, such that the government (controlled by the same people" can claim a mandate, or have its mouthpieces advocate more of the same. This is our thanks for helping the Soviets win WWII; they took over Europe and the US, just as General Patton predicted not long before his convenient accident. Use them as transmission belts for socialism and current Communist propaganda. Soften the curriculum. Get control of teachers' associations. Put the party line in textbooks. 19. Use student riots to foment public protests against programs or organizations which are under Communist attack. 21. Gain control of key positions in radio, TV, and motion pictures. 25. Discredit the Bible and emphasize the need for intellectual maturity, which does not need a "religious crutch." 32. The Nazis first realized that there was no need for government to own the means of production. Control is better and more efficient. I suspect corporate America has been given it's marching orders. Most executives know better than to alienate half of their customers.

If big business is in China, Europe, the Middle East, the Far East, Africa and South America (all of whom we're subsidizing), why should they be concerned about the American market? Welcome to the global economy. They're paying us with our dollars.

The members of the NYPD grew so disenchanted with their jobs in 2020 that over 5,300 uniformed officers either retired or quit, an astonishing 75% increase over the year before, amounting to 15% of the total number of officers on the force. The impetus for the officers quitting seemed to be the death of George Floyd and the unrest that followed; between May 25 and June 24, 2020, a whopping 272 officers left the force in one month.2,600 officers quit and 2,746 filed for retirement, according to the New York Post. The 5,346 officers who left the force were nearly 2,300 more than left the force in 2019,

Writer Salena Zito best described the Rorschach test that Donald Trump represented. As she put it in 2016, “The press takes him literally, but not seriously; his supporters take him seriously, but not literally.” Now comes another presidential dilemma: What to make of the new and radical Joe Biden? On the surface, it seems an odd question about a 78-year-old man who has spent nearly 50 years in Washington. But the new Biden, the President Biden, doesn’t sound and act like the former senator and vice president. In fact, this Biden is so dramatically different that it’s not clear if we should take him either seriously or literally.

Wind and solar energy are both essentially obsolete technologies. There is a reason why only the very rich or the very adventurous sail across oceans: the wind is unreliable, and at best produces relatively little energy. Nevertheless, liberals have concocted fantasies whereby all of our electricity, or perhaps our entire economy, will be powered by those fickle sources. There are a number of reasons why this will never happen, but a paper published last week by Center of the American Experiment argues that land use constraints are the most basic reason why wind and solar are inexorably destined to fail. The paper, titled Not In Our Backyard, is authored by

A journalist and CNN analyst on Friday advanced the controversial claim that an Ohio police officer responding to a knife-wielding teenager should have shot her "in the leg" and should have considered not even using his gun to address the situation. April Ryan, a reporter with theGrio, made the argument—a common one among police critics—on Friday’s edition of HBO’s Real Time With Bill Maher. The show’s panel was discussing in part the recent police-involved shooting of 16-year-old Ohio resident Ma’Khia Bryant, who was attempting to stab several other teenagers with a large butcher knife when a responding officer shot and killed her.

There’s something off about Kamala Harris. And no, I’m not talking about her hard-left political beliefs, the lies she tells, or her endless reinventing herself for political advancement. In that regard, she’s just another leftist politician. What’s bizarre about Kamala is her inappropriate laughter about things that ought to inspire solemnity. What makes laughter inappropriate? It’s inappropriate when you’re speaking to a crowd and you’re the only one who laughs. Of course, that can also happen to a bad comedian, but there’s no indication in the clip below that Kamala was trying to tell a joke.

n the debate over whether one should or should not get the COVID vaccination, much has been said about the “science.” However, I’m not sure any encyclopedic knowledge of “science” is required to make this health decision. Simple statistical analysis should suffice to inform one’s ultimate decision. Statistics is primarily a study of probabilities. Fortunately, as regards COVID mortality rates, these probabilities are now known. That is, COVID mortality statistics broken down by age cohorts are now “known knowables.” For example, through statistics as of April 7, the odds an American under the age of 25 would die from COVID were 1-in-106,217.
