A bill meant to protect drivers who hit protesters during the course of fleeing a riot passed the Oklahoma Senate on Wednesday. House Bill 1674, which passed through the Senate by a vote of 38-10, would increase penalties for blocking roadways while also providing immunity to drivers who kill or injure motorists while fleeing the scene of a riot in fear for their lives, according to the Associated Press. The bill comes in response to an incident in Tulsa, Oklahoma, last year in which a driver in a pickup truck drove through a group of George Floyd protesters blocking an interstate and injured several protesters.

Regardless of what the local law says, I would be plowing my way out of a riot. If the rioters want to become speed bumps that is their choice. I am thinking about attaching some of those "beaked chariot" devices to my wheels that the Roman consul used in Ben Hur.

President Biden’s speech Wednesday night failed on all counts: It didn’t sell his latest spending plan, it didn’t sell his larger agenda — and, worst of all, it didn’t sell him.Start with the utterly bizarre “mask theater.” All the politicians in the room have been fully vaccinated, and Biden’s own CDC says that’s enough. So why the universal masking, and the social distancing? The message, cutting across the president’s occasional optimism, was that this nightmare will never end — which simply isn’t true.Equally, obviously false was Biden’s now-routine effort to claim all the credit for successful vaccinations: All that was set in motion before he took office.

Do you remember Maximo Alvarez? He is the Cuban-American immigrant who spoke at the last Republican convention and warned America not to trust the Democrats. The Daily Wire has details: Cuban Refugee Warns Americans Have Already ‘Swallowed’ Communism’s ‘Poison Pill’ A refugee who fled communist Cuba warned during a Wednesday interview that he believes many Americans have already swallowed the “poison pill” of communism.

President Joe Biden used his first joint address to Congress to call for a set of policies aimed at fundamentally transforming and enlarging the government’s role in the lives of American families. Biden pitched to the American people a vision of a society dominated by a centralized government, unfettered by counterweights or competing sources of security or authority. In Biden’s America, the youngest children will attend government pre-k, the government will deliver their parents child-rearing checks, subsidized child care, and offer tuition-free community college. It’s an America where the guiding hand of big government is everywhere from the cradle through the diploma.

Joe Biden said during his first address to a joint session of Congress on Wednesday evening that the Capitol storming on January 6 was the 'worst attack' on democracy since the Civil War. The claim immediately led to major backlash, especially from those on right-wing Twitter, who pointed to a slew of other tragedies in America between the 1860s and 2021 – like the September 11, 2001 terrorist attack, Pearl Harbor, presidential assassinations and others. 'January 6 was worse than 9/11? Or Pearl Harbor?' Glenn Greenwald, a journalist and former attorney wrote in a Twitter thread.

Six trillion dollars and counting . . . that’s the price tag that President Biden says Americans need to pay for his triple play of COVID-19 relief, infrastructure and social spending. During his first speech to Congress, Biden promoted his latest, massive tax-and-spend proposal, dubbed the “American Families Plan,” which he called “a once-in-a-generation investment in our families — in our children.” The $1.8 trillion package would include more than $500 billion for education, $225 billion each for child care and paid time off for workers, as well as $45 billion more for food stamps and school meals for needy kids.

When U.S. Catholic bishops hold their next national meeting in June, they'll be deciding whether to send a tougher-than-ever message to President Joe Biden and other Catholic politicians: Don´t receive Communion if you persist in public advocacy of abortion rights. At issue is a document that will be prepared for the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops by its Committee on Doctrine, with the aim of clarifying the church's stance on an issue that has repeatedly vexed the bishops in recent decades. It's taken on new urgency now, in the eyes of many bishops, because Biden.... is the first to hold that office while espousing clear-cut support for abortion rights.

On a recent walk, I came across a neighborhood littered with the yard sign in this photo. It seems the provocative platitudes we’ve seen on bumper stickers for a century have now taken root in our yards. And for the same reason: To tell the world that the sign-planter holds wonderful beliefs that he’s willing to impose upon and attribute to the rest of his family. It’s surely not because the sign-planter thinks he’s persuading anyone of the rightness of his position, as if the neighbors reading the sign will say to themselves, “Gee, ‘Democracy dies in darkness’ is a great point. I’d never thought of it that way.”

While it may seem obvious that the constitutional right to "keep and bear arms" extends beyond the home, federal courts have been debating that question for years. This week, the Supreme Court agreed to hear a case that could finally settle the issue, which the petitioners call "perhaps the single most important unresolved Second Amendment question." The case involves a New York law that requires applicants for handgun carry licenses to show "proper cause," which according to state courts means more than a "generalized desire" to "protect one's person and property."
