White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki is making clear President Joe Biden looks forward to repealing the “liability shields” that protect gun manufacturers from frivolous lawsuits. The Associated Press did an overview of the current gun control landscape, with H.R. 8 and H.R. 1446 both having passed in the House and now with the Senate.H.R. 8 would put in place universal background checks, criminalizing private gun sales via an expansion of the gun point-of-sale background check system. H.R. 1446 would increase the period of the FBI has for an extended, instant background check. Current time for an extension is three business days. H.R. 1446 would extend that to at least 10

Interesting that Bidet doesn't seem to announce any information on plans he has/or is planning to do. but the press secretary announces them in WH press briefings?

The democrats are truly doing everything that they can to destroy the Second Amendment! This is a way to bankrupt gun makers by making them liable for every nit-wit that uses a firearm illegally! Every ambulance-chasing lawyer in the country will be filing lawsuits against them! I absolutely despise and abhor the democrats and their enablers!

Hmm. By extension of the retarded thinking behind this, shouldn't we be able to sue liquor makers AND distributors, as well as car manufacturers and car dealerships, for drunken driving accidents? Or sue supermarkets, restaurants, and fast-food joints, (as well as flatware manufacturers) for selling us food that made us fat? Guns can kill, cars can kill, and food can make you obese, but ITS YOUR CHOICES that lead to tragedies, not the inanimate objects that YOU can't seem to be in control of, when so many others of us are perfectly fine and safe users thereof. For every gun death, there's a human pulling the trigger. Every drunk driving accident, there's another human at the wheel.

Can we sue brickmakers for making the bricks that Antifa throws through our windows or smashes against our heads?
Can we sue the skateboard markers that Antifa punks use as weapons?
Can we sue Bic and Diamond matches for supplying the lighters and matches that #BLM uses to burn down our homes, cars, businesses?

Biden has bacome President and now has a sudden interest in making laws.
He spent 40 years in the Senate and slept through it. NOW he thinks he is in the Senate.
President's don't make laws they sign them.
Or at least it's supposed to work that way.

In saner times, these bills would be dead as soon as they hit the Senate. Even a lot of Demon-Rats would vote against them.
But these are clearly not "saner times"!!! The Demon-Rats are far more scared of the Demon-Rat power elite than they are of their own voters!!!

First, remove qualified immunity for members of Congress and President for the stupid laws they pass. Then remove it for Judges for releasing criminals who go out and immediately commit other crimes which could have been prevented if they had done their jobs.

To those of you raising the "can I sue the car company for the drunk driver" argument and all those others like it here is the context for the gun makers carve out in the first place. To understand the reason firearms manufacturers were granted this immunity one must look at the history behind it.
Back in the 90s the left, having repeatedly failed to enact extremely unpopular gun control legislation, started a campaign using their favorite legislative workaround. They decided to use the courts to sue the gun companies out of existence. They started suing all of the gun companies on behalf of every victim of a crime remotely connected to a gun. Back to the automakers and the drunk question. No you can't sue the automaker for a drunk driving accident and it turns out you can't sue a gunmaker for every crime involving a gun either. But the left was clogging up the courts with these frivolous suits, every single one of which was tossed. But the left never cares about winning these kinds of cases, they simply hope the financial burden of fighting them will accomplish what elections, legislation and judicial rulings cannot. Bankrupting their target so they go away.
One very unfortunate unintended consequence of our judicial system is that the legal process itself can become an overwhelming punitive punishment in and of itself, no matter what the actual final ruling ends up being. The left tries this all the time. Finally the courts had had enough. They were tired of tossing these cases out on the same grounds time after time only to have the same law firms raise the same arguments at the next civil suit arising from a gun crime. So the legislature had to step in and ban suits that were wasting the courts time and resources but which the left would not stop filing, no matter how many times they lost.
That is the history of the gun company carve out, it had nothing to do with special immunity for illegal actions and everything to do with actual abuse of the court system by the left. Suspending this immunity will not change the fact that the whole gun liability for crime argument is fallacious and will not be allowed in any court. No matter how many times the left tries to argue it in front of a judge.
So, No, you cannot sue a car company because a drunk driver used their lawful product in the commission of a crime, even if a fatality is involved and for exactly the same reason the argument always fails for firearms as well.
