Portland cut police funding and got

Last June, the city of Portland, Oregon, hopped on the “defund the police” bandwagon. Now, it is flooded with gun violence, and the mayor is already backtracking from his support for the cuts. Mayor Ted Wheeler has requested $2 million in emergency funding for the police department, pointing directly to the surge in gun violence. At this point last year, Portland had seen just one homicide. This year, that number is 20, with 208 shootings in the city so far. Wheeler backed the Portland City Council’s decision to cut $15 million from the police budget last June, which included disbanding police units that investigate gun violence. Predictably, that move backfired

People are already fleeing to the suburbs and NOW he realizes his inaction during the summer riots might be too late. Downtown has turned into a cesspool and efforts are underway to "spread the love" by having tent camps across the city. The City Council is trying to come up with "equitable" solutions , just like the fiddler that keeps on playing while the City goes down the toilet. Elections have consequences, enjoy living in the mess the voters created.

The lawsuit was filed against Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen and the Treasury Department. Neither the White House nor the Treasury Department immediately responded when asked for comment. President Biden signed the bill last week, authorizing aid including direct payments for individuals and $195.3 billion for states and Washington, D.C. — including about $5.5 billion for Ohio, according to the lawsuit. The aid is largely distributed based on each state's number of unemployed workers. Yost argues in his lawsuit that Congress violated constitutional restraints in seeking to control how states set their tax policies. Imaad Zuberi hobnobbed for two decades among America's political elite, raising millions for Barack Obama, Joe Biden, and Hillary Clinton, texting with kings, princes, presidents and prime ministers and jet-setting with Republican senators like Lindsey Graham and John McCain. Then Zuberi resisted pressure to cooperate in the investigation of then-President Donald Trump's inauguration committee, and the California millionaire's world came crashing down. Late last year, he pleaded guilty to what federal prosecutors said was a "mercenary" scheme to funnel large sums of foreign money into U.S. campaign coffers so Zuberi could gain political influence and build his global business empire.

We have all been circling around the genesis of our society's ills since the COVID epidemic struck and the riots and peaceful protests began. It is not ironic that everything happened seemingly at once; rather, once the wound appeared, it became inflamed and infected almost immediately. On the most fundamental level, we are suffering from a complete disrespect for boundaries. The idea of boundaries is fairly simple, yet its roots grow deep, indeed to the core of humanity. One of my favorite books describes the entire book of Genesis from the Bible as an ironic story about boundaries

Texas Governor Greg Abbott declared war on anti-Semitism this week, tying Gab, a free speech-centric social media network, to the issue. “Anti-Semitic platforms like Gab have no place in Texas and certainly do not represent Texas values,” he said, flanked by Republican State Representatives Craig Goldman and Phil King in a video released Wednesday. With the American, Israeli, and Texas flags looming in the background, Abbott pledged to support legislation introduced by Goldman and King aimed at “fighting anti-Semitism.” At first glance, Abbott’s intentions may seem sincere but the move is misguided and, frankly, stupid.

The Journalism Competition and Preservation Act of 2019 is currently making its way through Congress and if passed, would be a massive blow to small media companies. According to govtrack.us, the bill creates a four-year safe harbor from antitrust laws for print or digital news companies to collectively negotiate with online social media companies regarding the terms on which the news companies’ content may be distributed by online content distributors. A report published by Breitbart this week criticizes the bill, saying it would give Big Media companies a special exemption from antitrust law, allowing them to form a cartel
