Marvelous Marvin Hagler, who dominated boxing's middleweight division in the 1980s, has died at the age of 66, his wife Kay Hagler said on Saturday. The cause of death was not immediately known. Celebrity website TMZ reported Hagler was taken to hospital in New Hampshire on Saturday with chest pains and trouble breathing. One of my favorite boxing lines ever, from the Hagler-Hearns fight, round 3. The referee called time out so the ring doctor could examine the cut to Hagler's head, the blood running down Hagler's face. The doctor asked Hagler if he could see okay. Hagler replied, "I ain't missing him, am I?" The fight was over about 20 seconds later. RIP Marvelous, one of the great ones. The Leonard decision was as ridiculous as the judge who had Tyson ahead of Douglas going into the 10th round.

Hagler was my all time favorite. He got involved in the craft after a boxer kicked his ass on the way home from school (a loss he avenged). Such a tremendous talent. Goody and Pat guided him masterfully. Good on ya', Marvin. Marvin was "upset" that the HBO announcers wouldn't refer to him by his nickname. Legally changed his name to Marvelous. His birth certificate revealed that he had lied about his age and turned pro when he was 16 years old. He couldn't wait any longer. RIP, Marvin.

Just saw him on Johnny Carson (c. 1982?) about 4-5 days ago. Well spoken , classy, and assured, but humble. Johnny loved him. RIP.

I actually won money on that fight between sugar ray and Hagler. I bet that Marvin would not end it in less than 3 rounds.

I was a big fan of my fellow Brooklynite - - Vito Antuofermo - - the world middleweight champion. When they first fought - - Marvin was something like a 1,000-1 favorite - - but Vito defeated him - - handily. The boxing world was astonished - - even though Vito was the champion at the time and Marvin was the challenger. Just goes to show how wrong all the "experts" can be. When they fought again - - the roles were reversed - - and Marvin retained the championship rather easily by TKO. Marvin was a truly great fighter - - but he met his match the first time he fought Vito.

Actually, #9, their first fight ended in a draw. A highly contested one, at that.

A New York State whistleblower says that another wrongheaded policy has cost lives to the state’s most vulnerable, and he blames Governor Andrew Cuomo. In 2011, Jeff Monsour won a landmark federal jury trial for whistleblower retaliation after he disclosed abuses in New York state’s group homes. He told The American Conservative that he and Mike Carey, whose son died in a group home over fourteen years ago, have been warning everyone—including Gov. Cuomo—of the so-called floating policy and its deleterious effects on COVID spread in group homes. “You must immediately STOP all floating of caregivers throughout your entire mental health system. Amy Coney Barrett was confirmed to the U.S. Supreme Court by the Senate Monday evening, filling the vacancy left by liberal Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg. The vote was nearly entirely along party lines: Senator Susan Collins of Maine was the only Republican to dissent, voting with all 47 members of the Democratic Caucus against the conservative Trump nominee over concerns of the proximity to the election. The final vote was 52-48. "Because this vote is occurring prior to the election, I will vote against the nomination of Judge Amy Coney Barrett," Collins said in a statement over the weekend.
