Sen. Patrick Leahy (D-Vt.), president pro tempore of the Senate, will preside over next month’s impeachment trial of former President Donald Trump, Leahy said on Jan. 25.
Leahy is 80. Both parties traditionally choose their eldest member to serve in the pro tempore role, which is essentially a backup for the president of the Senate, whenever they gain a majority in the body.
“The president pro tempore has historically presided over Senate impeachment trials of non-presidents,” Leahy said in a statement.

That mushmouth goof is nearly as mentally compromised as Mr. Jill Biden. Of course he will do his best acting job, trying to appear full of seriousness, honor, and gravitas (remember that word??) .
Just when you think you can't be more appalled at what goes on in Congress, they pile on something else that makes you want to scream.

Does that mean he can't cast a vote? Darn.
I expect as much fairness as I would from a bunch of wolves and one sheep deciding on dinner plans.

Gee, I was hoping Stallwell and Fang Fang would lead this clown show, but I guess Chuckles Leahy will have to do.

He will be both judge and juror. That alone should put this impeachment im the sham category. The fact that Roberts has declined to be the judge should put all on notice that it is unconstitutional.

Anyone thinking Leaky Leahy can be fair and impartial is on some serious drugs. Get to a doctor immediately and get your prescription changed. Leahy doesn't have one fair and impartial cell in his body.

It's interesting that key people don't want to be involved. Roberts doesn't, and Harris won't have too. It's almost like they don't want to be put in the position where it may bite them back. If you're illegal in the first place and you knowingly convict then that's treason. And it looks like this impeachment thing won't go any where any how.

Figures. If there are innocent people around to kill or destroy, Leaky Leahy is the go to man to complete the job. He really needs to retire from congress and concentrate on his acting career in Hollywood. Yes, he has been in movies. 7 to be exact.

If We, the People just sit around and allow this illegal, unconstitutional kangaroo court to transpire, we deserve to lose the republic!
Call your senators and let them know that you will never vote for them again if they go through with this!

What difference does it make what the Constitution says? It is a political show trial for the benefit of the far left wing of the Democrat party. It makes me wonder though, how many more years will President Trump continue to live rent free in liberals' heads?

The Marxist Left is using the logic? that they started the impeachment talk before President Trump left office, therefore they can proceed and have the Senate vote whenever they feel they have the votes to pass it. Not unlike purchasing one lottery ticket, and being able to turn it in whenever your numbers come up.

I didn’t think people would be banned from Twitter or their voice silenced. I didn’t think the house would vote to impeach. I didn’t think Biden would be allowed to win by cheating. I didn’t think so many Republicans would cave to pressure. I didn't think We would join forces with China. And on and on it goes, but here we are.

Leahy presiding is unconstitutional. Says right here: " When the President of the United States is tried, the Chief Justice shall preside: And no person shall be convicted without the concurrence of two thirds of the members present." [Art.1 Sec. 3]
I would be most happy to see the senate convict the President of the United States, but this is directed at Trump, a private citizen, and as such is a bill of attainder, also unconstitutional. [Art. 1 Sec. 9]

Isn't this the Senator that believes that restorative justice is the answer to any crime?
No crime is worth jail time.. Wonder how it has worked in Vermont.

#14, for your smiley face, type ampersand, pound sign (also called hash sign),
lower case x, numeral 1, capital F, then 642
.....but key in the actual special characters, no spaces or commas, just a continuous 8 character string like this.

It is unconstitutional for anyone to preside but the chief justice, no discussion.
From US Constitution, Article 2, Section 3, paragraph six:
"When the President of the United States is tried, the Chief Justice shall preside:"
I have been taught by lawyers that "shall" in a legal document means "absolutely MUST" and
there is zero legal wiggle room with "shall", it is a directive.
If Roberts doesn't preside, it is absolutely UNCONSTUTIONAL.
But you knew it was a Kangaroo Kourt Witch Trial already, didn't you?

I can see where Justice Roberts would not want to preside over an illegal/unconstitutional trial. I think that would be treason... and Roberts already has the Obamacare strike against him.
