Ohio Sen. Rob Portman said Monday he’s not seeking re-election in 2022 — joining at least two other swing-state Republicans who will retire. Portman told the Cincinnati Enquirer that “it has gotten harder and harder to break through the partisan gridlock and make progress on substantive policy, and that has contributed to my decision.”Portman, 65, is completing his second six-year term. He is a former House member and was White House budget director during former President George W. Bush’s second term.

I just heard on the radio that one of the most despised Democrats here in Ohio, Rep. Tim Ryan, is seriously considering a run for Portman's seat. That would hand the election to the Republican candidate.

Portman would not get re-elected here. Jim Jordan would be my first choice. He is someone you can count on and that is rare in the political class.

"it has gotten harder and harder to break through the partisan gridlock and make progress on substantive policy, and that has contributed to my decision.”
READ: "It has gotten harder to get the Marxists not to release the photos of me having sex with minors if I don't quit so they can replace me with another Marxist. (at least I won't have to 'hang' myself on a doorknob with paper sheets)"
There, fixed it.

#1 is correct. Jim Jordan...but remember old Swampy Mitch nixed Doug Collins in Georgia for the preening and primping Kelly Loeffler because she wasn't too conservative. Hell's Bells, Kelly wasn't conservative at all! One can never discount Swampy who believes he is just too cool and smart.

GOOD! ANY Republican who decides to retire before 2022 needs to do it NOW. Do you all realize that retirements before the 2018 election by house Republicans have led directly to the damn mess that we are in now? By Retiring at the wrong time, Republicans GAVE the house to peelosi which led to impeachment on made up grounds, and the ability of dimoKKKrats to steal the last election?
Trump needs to approve ANY Republican running for office in 2022. Primary the ones who arent with us, and put in new blood. HOWEVER, on ELECTION day, still vote STRAIGHT Republican, ANY Republican, even JEB! or romney, is still head and shoulders above ANY dimoKKKrat.

It won't matter if he runs or not, retirement is his future. Republicans all over the country are going to find out that votes in 2022 will be as rare as gold nuggets in a farm pond.

The NY Post and others treat this as news, but it is no surprise to anyone who has followed Potted Plant Portman's Twitter and FB for the past 2 years.

Have we already forgotten that the Left can rig the elections with impunity? Portman is leaving due to the fact that he realizes there is no way that a Republican will ever win again in Ohio.

As an Ohioan, I sent Portman many, many messages on his Senate webpage. Each time, I got the identical response which had NO bearing on the subject I was addressing. I have long advocated that Jim Jordan run against this weak-kneed RINO in the next primary. Portman has been as ineffective as our uber-liberal democrat senator Sherrod Brown and, God willing, Brown might well be defeated if the Republicans put up a strong candidate who can win enough votes outside Cleveland to finally take this clown out as well.
