Does the President have a right to free speech? Josh Blackman, a constitutional law professor writing on The Volokh Conspiracy, suggests he certainly does and that his speech on January 6 is a weak reed (as was Nancy Pelosi’s past impeachment folly) on which to gain a conviction in the Senate. (Remember an impeachment vote in the House is basically an indictment with no effect unless the Senate finds guilt after a trial.) Looking at the most analogous case, the impeachment of President Andrew Jackson, he finds plenty of reason for senators to vote against it.

Someday in the future people will wonder what caused the wave of insanity that possessed the Democrat party to go off the deep end the way it has. Utterly unbelievable.

It would be good if we understood something. The left weilds naked power to subdue. They only make a pretense of legality when they must, but it is not real. They do t believe their own charges.
It is folly to apply reasoned analysis to diffuse the mob fueled by irrational hate.
Soviet authorities did likewise. It is called a show trial

Sadly, the media has blinded many people with their propaganda. My son in NY believes that Trump is exactly the way the media describes him. Last night, he accused me of being delusional, misguided, etc., over defending Trump. I tried to focus on policies that I hated...abortion, shutting down free speech, etc, and although he claimed he didn’t believe in abortion, he was still convinced Biden was a sweet old man. He believes Hunter Biden’s laptop was a lie. I gave up. If a majority of people believe the lies of the media, it is a lost cause.

We're grasping at political straws because all the earthly lifesavers have failed. There is one universal Lifesaver that has yet to be fully employed...the power of prayer and Divine Intervention. Mature people of faith recognize the spiritual warfare that has been unleashed upon us during the 20th century. There is no doubt that evil is ascendant throughout the world because Satan has been successful in convincing modern man he does not exist. We will be called to witness during a time of apostasy, but that makes our witness even more necessary. We should not shun this opportunity to suffer persecution for the sake of Our Lord, but take the fight to the enemy with songs in our hearts and prayer upon our lips.

Poster #5, my husband's brother is the same as your son. He thinks Biden is an 'honest and decent' man. He had never even heard of Antifa when my husband asked him if he wasn't outraged at all the riots this past year. He only listens to the propaganda outlets of the 'rat party for his information. Unfortunately, his twin sister lives right next door to him and he shouts at her at how their parents and grandparents would be ashamed of her that she voted for Trump. He calls or texts my husband, yesterday asking if he was planning the next rebellion. My husband told him he was too busy watching the football games.

To #1:
I am a spiritual guy, who believes that satan and his minions are alive and well on Planet Earth. I also believe that they are very adept at manipulating the anger and hatred of men. Accordingly, I believe it is such spiritual manipulation that explains the otherwise incoherent, irrational, hair-on-fire, hatred of the Left for DJT, especially in view of the stark reality that DJT is demonstrably among the most successful POTUS's in history.

The left has completed lost their collective mind. How did President Trump's speech incite "the insurrection" when chatter has it, this was pre-planned? Easy, the pre-planning was done by the dems. God help us.

WE will never desert President Trump...the media monsters have driven Americans underground with their dictates... and democrats will suffer loses in 2022 unthinkable... the useful idiots on the left will tire with no mob work and no free riot rewards...no President Trump on tweeter to attack...no restaurants to attack and ole ladies to push around...perhaps the wicked witch of the west will give them unemployment checks... remember when caesar said...to Maximus..." there's always someone to fight"...who will be next on their hit list...?

The left has been driven insane by their lust for absolute power. Once they feel it is securely in their grasp, they will turn on one another like a pack of hyenas in a King of the Hill destruction derby. What it will do to our country will be of no concern -- only increasing the scope of their own personal fiefdom.

Vote against what? It is the consensus among legal scholars that one cannot impeach on out of office. (If one can, the GOP should impeach Obama at earliest opportunity.)
The Republican response to this sham, should Schumer try to pull off a trial, is complete disdain, ignoring any part of this nonsense. Not one Republican senator (including Romney) should appear in the Senate chamber for any proceedings involving any trial. PDT should not respond to any requests, not offer any defense. Chief Justice Earl Warren Roberts should decline any request to preside under the opinion that this trial would be unconstitutional. Let these suckers stew in their own fetid environment. Without the Republicans there can be no conviction under any circumstances.

somehow or other, I don't think the word "hate" is applicable to this situation because the democrat party is so bought and paid for by the communist factions in this country and China and the Soviet Union that they must stop any kind of "American" thoughtspeak and an increase of any kind of "patriotism" to take hold in the United States. communism believes that thought is a crime and must be dealt with severely and we all know that is has been in the past.

As is usual, Clarice Feldman does an excellent job summarizing the week. Many wonderful comments, worth remembering.
One that I think is on target:
“...that great psyops that sucked the fight out of millions of patriots, who came to believe that Trump was playing and winning "three-dimensional chess" against a gang of pedophiles, and deep state holders of power. It will take a serious investigative reporter to unearth where the Q cult came from. Considering how the Q fantasy lulls patriots into complacence about "winning," I presume it was perpetrated by Trump's enemies.”
Yes. I think the whole Q thing was a disinformation campaign. And a lot of useful idiots fell for it. Nostradamus with a political bent. I still have one normally very sensible family member who is off in orbit imagining that there will be some last minute magic wand waved and things go back to normal via various
'secret, inside sources'. I've just stopped replying to the texts.

#1, I don't agree. Does anyone wonder "what caused the wave of insanity that possessed the" Bolsheviks? No, we know that they were just evil, violent, ethics-free Communists, willing to do anything for power.
The same can be said for the leaders of this mess and their ChiCom funders and puppetmasters.

It is sad to see the communist plot against our great President Trump come this far. The rise of China and exfiltration of our wealth have been stopped. Illegal aliens will not be welcome to lower our wages. No new wars. Our Champion hurt them and they seek revenge and total destruction.
Communists fought so hard because their radical transformation was stopped for 4 years. So yes, Donald J. Trump has been excellent for America. In my case he made me wealthy, for the first time, through my 401k. I am set for life. Thank you.
Trump the Great has my enduring gratitude. MAGA. This patriot was a gift from God. Beijing Biden stole the election through shameless fraud, and hiding this fact is the reason for this ridiculous impeachment.

Two votes to impeach are incredible, to be sure.
Two votes to impeach, solely on partisan grounds, and lacking any material evidence supporting those actions, borders on unbelievable.
And yet Pelosi and her hair-on-fire caucus has pulled it off, twice.
And that, while Rome burned.
For gross negligence, willful misconduct, criminal mischief, and blatant dereliction of duty, Pelosi, Schiff, their entire caucus, and any RINOs that played along, are the ones who need to be impeached...and then sent to prison.

Once again, Miss Clarice "Hits It Out of the Park".
But the Democ'RATS are off the chain, with not a whit of a care about the Law, the Constitution, or the Truth.
What they are after is POWER.
POWER is ALL that Matters.
Getting and holding on to POWER.
There is no point in wasting time trying to 'Understand' them.
There are no deep philosophical underpinnings here.
It is ALL about POWER.
Plain and Simple.
Now, what can we do, as law-abiding citizens?
I am no 'expert', but I do (just as everyone) have an opinion.
I suggest two areas to immediately put our efforts:
1) Use the legal system to tie the Democrats up in knots for as long as we can.
President Trump appointed a BUNCH of judges At least Some of them should be decent people.
Use their courts as forums to oppose the Democ'RAT destruction of our beloved America as best we can.
2) Work at the state level for Honest Elections. Elections in which ONLY Legal Voters can vote, and which
EVERY step of the vote counting is COMPLETELY VISIBLE.... Observers everywhere,
NO 'Computerized' vote counting..... EVERY process OPEN, REPEATABLE and VISIBLE TO EVERYONE.

MDConservative (#16) I must respectfully disagree with you.
IF (and that's a big IF) I recall correctly, any impeachment vote in the Senate is counted by the 'members present'.
26 of 50 'present' would be a 'majority'.
50 of 75 'present' would be a '2/3 majority'.
IF I am recalling this properly, one of the various schemes discussed a couple of years ago was to get a good number of the Senators to boycott, so that the 'Members Present' could get a 2/3 majority.
Having ALL the Pubbies boycott the shampeachment trial would -assuming the 'RATS would declare that they have a quorum- give the 'RATS the majority they are looking for to illegally put our magnificent President Trump through Hell.
Any L-Dotter who has a better knowledge on this, please chip in!
