A strong majority of GOP voters view themselves as Republicans rather than devotees of President Trump's Make America Great Again, or "MAGA," movement, according to a new Just the News Daily Poll with Scott Rasmussen. Among the Republican voters, 74% consider themselves "more of a Republican," while 19% see themselves as "part of MAGA nation." The numbers could reflect the fallout from last week's Capitol riot, which has been broadly characterized as being led by Trump's MAGA devotees, a key part of the president's base, helped him become president in 2016. However, there is no similar, previous polls to compared percentages.

Is that how they phrased the question, "are you a part of MAGA nation?" I'd have hung up on them.

"A strong majority of GOP voters view themselves as Republicans..." just means the poll was heavily weighted toward registered Republicans. Trump got got a massive number of votes from all across the social and political spectrum. A President unlike any in my living memory.

And as many articles have pointed out, There seem to have been a huge contingent of "Werewolves" operatives in MAGA Gear who encouraged Trump supporters to follow them into a largely undefended Capital, by shouting orders at them, and funneling them to a single un-barricaded entrance. The Werewolves tended to be younger, wore their hats backwards, included a "Punisher" decal on their clothes. There was at least one older man there who barked orders like a master Sargent, from some reports. The police officer who died, apparently did NOT die from having been hit with a fire extinguisher.
We still don't know who shot the Airforce Woman.
While I think there were a lot of angry people there, I also think they were manipulated.

If Donald Trump were to state that the best thing we could do to Make America Great would be to form a new party, such as the Constitution Party or the Freedom Party, I think it would frighten the swamp creatures with the enormity of Americans who would join. Trump has more control of the registered republicans than anyone ever has to date, and certainly more than any other known republican politician.

I’m one of them. If Donald Trump was to run in 2024 I will vote for him. If he was to run as an independent I will not waste my vote on him. My hope is that he continues as head of the Republican Party, works to take over the House and Senate. I also hope he takes on cleaning up the federal election system. Unfortunately this country is stuck with the two-party system. Millions of people who voted for Trump voted for him because he ran as a Republican.

We stopped giving ANY contributions to any GOP. my entire family has stopped being listed as Republicans and switched to Independent. GOP is over for us. The Romneys&Cheneys McConnells etc sealed the deal. Trump was the only contribution I gave to during/since GA election. The Swamp gets nothing else.

Rasumussen polls are usually among the best predictors of actual voter sentiment. This one, not so much. First, with all the heat being applied to "MAGA" voters and wrongfully blaming them for the Antifa/BLM riot at the Capitol, few are going to self-identify as such just to participate in a poll. Secondly, since "MAGA" is not an officially recognized political party, most folks who support Trump still consider themselves Republicans. The aware ones hope the stupid party will purge itself of the wimpy, cowardly leaders who have, at best, been little more than fair weather friends to Trump and the Constitution.
Most folks still consider "republican" and "conservative" relatively synonymous. That may now be changing quickly.

I suspect those percentages would be 90/10 here on Lucianne.com in favor of a MAGA movement . Had I been polled, I would have answered "neither, because I am a Conservative, one who supported Donald Trump," I've been a conservative way before Donald Trump entered politics as a republican. Being conservative is more about core values and not who is at the top of a political party. I certainly want America to be made great again but for some reason, the MAGA sloganeers went straight to KAG before MAGA became a reality. I'm sure I'll get a lot of disagreement but I respectfully submit that I've just never been big on slogans or acronyms. I also detest lazy, cowardly, lying politicians and the GOP has a passel of them. I don't think the US has the 20 years or so that it would take to mature a new party, so I'd like to see a wholesale shake-up within the GOP, with around 1/3rd of current Republicans being "retired" by the people. That might straighten up the remaining wayward Uniparty-esque republicans. Based on their campaign rhetoric, they know the right things to do; however, they have failed to do them, thus they need to be ejected or "spanked" politically in order to further conservative American interests. It may never happen but I won't give up on the country I've fought for and that we all love.

We are Trump Republicans. Being part of a third party would split the vote and hand it to the Dems ( with legal voting) Think what they could do with their excellent perfected fraud.

Define MAGA nation. Are you a Trump supporters or are you a Trump supporter that flys Trump flags, sports Trump bumber stickers and wear MAGA hats? There are supporters, fans and die hard fans. Where do you fall, on a scale of 1-10 as a Trump fan. Me.....I'm around an 8. Which is about as high as anyone ever gets on my scale.
MAGA is a movement/slogan. It doesn't define most people.
Regardless, its a stupid poll. And its results are meaningless without a means to measure what it means to be MAGA. I'm a constitutionalist and a capitalist. I'm a republican, for now, because it represents my beliefs better than others.
I'm a Trump fan. But I won't follow him thru the gates of hell just because he asks for it.

Yeah, right.
I am pretty sure that a strong majority of GOP voters in the last election now see themselves as "independent conservative voters" after how the GOP stabbed President Trump in the back and would not support him in the face of massive voter cheating by the Demon-Rats!!!!!
The Republi-Can't Party is dead to me!!!!! Of course, I will never vote for the pure evil that is the Demon-Rat Party!!! I may very well support strong conservatives that run as Republicans, but it will be with direct donations to their campaigns -- never another penny to the Republi-Can't Party!!!!! The GOP truly is dead to me in every way!!!!!

Well that’s too bad. I’m an independent and will never vote for a Republican again. The “lesser of two evils” argument isn’t enough for me.
My question is, how are working class Republicans any different than than blacks? No matter how many times they are used and abused, they just won’t get off the plantation.

For a brief moment, we like minded and aligned Conservatives, Republicans, Independents, and traditional Democrat voters had a chance to get this nation back on track. But, there is always a but, because of the GOPe, RINOs, and other feckless republicans known by various other names, we were denied. The behavior of various republican politicians towards our President these past four years was deceitful, embarrassing and corrosive. Perfidy and deceit by those who the President trusted and relied on can never be excused or accepted. Indeed, the enemy was inside the gates.
By its own hand, the GOP corroded into something of a joke to be mocked by many of our fellow citizens,
I have always been a Conservative, and consistently voted republican, even though I had to hold my nose more often than not.
But... today is a new day for me and other like minded Conservatives. I am no longer a republican. I am a Conservative Independent. If the GOP wants a chance at winning anything worth winning, they best start earning my vote today and every day.
Clean you stable GOP, and do it soonest, and pray the Donald does not establish a MAGA Party before its too late. If he does he will eat the your lunch every day to the delight of those the GOP betrayed.
Now run along stabbies and clean and fix yourselves, or else the Donald will come out to play.
