Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell's (R-Ky.) office told Senate Minority Leader Charles Schumer's (D-N.Y.) staff on Wednesday that the GOP will not agree to reconvene the Senate before Jan. 19 to allow an impeachment trial while President Trump is still in office. A senior Senate Republican aide confirmed that McConnell's office reached out to Schumer's office to relay the message that Republicans will not agree to a Friday session to enable House Democrats to present an article of impeachment to the Senate while Trump is in office.

Politically motivated violence is wrong, disgusting, and not justifiable no matter the cause. But not according to CNN PrimeTime host Chris “Fredo” Cuomo and CNN Tonight host Don Lemon, during the Tuesday handoff between their shows. Essentially, the duo argued that the Black Lives Matter and Antifa riots from last spring and summer were cooler than last week’s Capitol Hill attack because they were “justified” and the cases were not “apples to apples.”
Their griping was spurred on by this exchange between Cuomo and DHS Undersecretary Ken Cuccinelli, after the latter recalled the destructive violence that raged for months

WASHINGTON — A day before rioters stormed Congress, an FBI office in Virginia issued an explicit internal warning that extremists were preparing to travel to Washington to commit violence and "war," according to an internal document reviewed by The Washington Post that contradicts a senior official's declaration that the bureau had no intelligence indicating that anyone at last week's pro-Trump protest planned to do harm.
A situational information report approved for release the day before the U.S. Capitol riot painted a dire portrait of dangerous plans, including individuals sharing a map of the complex's tunnels, and possible rally points for would-be conspirators to meet up

Right-wing pundit Rush Limbaugh turned 70 years old Tuesday — a landmark he wasn’t expecting to see. While hitting seven-o is a big birthday for anyone, Limbaugh said almost a year ago that he had been diagnosed with advanced lung cancer. Shortly before Christmas, an emotional Limbaugh said he was grateful to be outliving his doctors’ prognosis. “I wasn’t expected to make it to October and then to November and then to December and yet here I am,” Limbaugh told listeners.
A column in his hometown publication the Southeast Missourian praised Limbaugh, a Cape Girardeau native, as “the first to develop a prominent place for conservatives in media”

CNN Airport, a long-running out-of-home media operation that became an integral part of the traveling experience for people flying through Chicago’s O’Hare, Dallas’ Love Field or even Fresno-Yosemite International Airport, is shutting down, the victim of shifts in consumer behavior that are moving more quickly than a Boeing 737.
CNN said the operation, which aired a mix of news from CNN and snippets from other WarnerMedia networks in 58 different airports in the U.S., would close as of March 31.

President-elect Joe Biden’s inaugural committee will refund a donation from former Sen. Barbara Boxer after the California Democrat registered as a foreign agent for a Chinese surveillance firm accused of abetting the country’s mass internment of Uighur Muslims, officials tell Axios.
Why it matters: Boxer’s contribution was just $500, but the Biden team’s decision to return the money shows how the incoming administration will try to balance its sweeping ethics commitments with K Street efforts to enlist high-profile Democrats with an eye toward advancing clients' interests in Biden's Washington.

Rep. Liz Cheney (R-Wyo.), the third-highest ranking Republican leader in the House, announced Tuesday that she'll vote to impeach President Donald Trump for his role in inciting a deadly insurrection at the Capitol last week.
You can read Cheney's original statement here, or view the full text below. "On January 6, 2021 a violent mob attacked the United States Capitol to obstruct the process of our democracy and stop the counting of presidential electoral votes. This insurrection caused injury, death and destruction in the most sacred space in our Republic.
"Much more will become clear in coming days and weeks, but what we know now is enough

President Trump warned Democrats to be “careful what you wish for” as he shrugged off the looming threat of being forced from office with the 25th Amendment.
He delivered prepared remarks in Texas during a visit to the border wall with Mexico but lost no time in addressing the roiling tension that he left behind in Washington, where House members were later due to vote on a resolution demanding that Vice President Mike Pence invoke the 25th Amendment to remove Trump.
“The 25th Amendment is of zero risk to me but will come back to haunt Joe Biden and the Biden administration," he said. "As the expression goes,

Sen. Mitch McConnell, the Republican leader, has told associates that he believes President Donald Trump committed impeachable offenses and that he is pleased that Democrats are moving to impeach him, believing that it will make it easier to purge him from the party, according to people familiar with his thinking. The House is voting Wednesday to formally charge Trump with inciting violence against the country.
At the same time, Rep. Kevin McCarthy, R-Calif., the minority leader and one of Trump’s most steadfast allies in Congress, has asked other Republicans whether he ought to call on Trump to resign

The Joint Chiefs of Staff, the group of the most senior uniformed leaders at the Pentagon, issued a force-wide statement Tuesday condemning the riot at the Capitol as a “direct assault” on Congress and the constitutional process and affirming President-elect Joe Biden will become the nation’s 46th commander in chief on Jan 20. The memo represented a rare step for a U.S. military leadership that has sought to keep the American armed forces out of the nation’s rancorous partisan politics in recent years. It came after a number of the rioters, who stormed the Capitol last week

When an overwhelmingly white, male mob rampaged the Capitol last week armed with guns and zip ties, attacking police with metal pipes, and erecting a gallows, the nation reeled in horror. But many women also saw something familiar.
"It's a reminder of the everyday stresses that come with living in a world that's shaped by white masculinity, that there's still so much more work to do, and that your wellness comes second to their expressions of dominance, which they see as their right," said Kristen Barber, a sociology professor at Southern Illinois University, Carbondale, and editor of the journal Men and Masculinities. Experts say demonstrations of white masculinity

Is a second impeachment of Donald Trump really “so ill-advised,” as Joe Manchin claims? It depends on what House Democrats want out of it. If they hope to get Trump removed and barred from further office, Manchin warns that it won’t happen. The votes simply don’t exist: “I think this is so ill-advised for Joe Biden to be coming in, trying to heal the country, trying to be the president of all the people when we are going to be so divided and fighting again. Let the judicial system do its job,” said Manchin, who represents a state where Trump is very popular.
Manchin added that he did not believe
