Pelosi asks Joint Chiefs about preventing
Trump from launching nukes

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi spoke with the nation's top military officer on Friday about precautions in place to prevent President Donald Trump from ordering a nuclear strike or conducting other military hostilities as Democrats seek his removal from office. The stunning revelation came in a letter from the speaker to House Democrats outlining next steps following a violent breach of the U.S. Capitol on Wednesday by Trump supporters. Pelosi said she spoke to Joint Chiefs Chairman Gen. Mark Milley about guardrails in place that could prevent "an unstable president" from wielding the military or the country's nuclear arsenal.

This is a story to advance the theory that Trump is unstable. The reality is that the military will never launch nukes just because the president orders it. Contrary to liberal fevered dreams, active duty personnel are not brain dead drones just following orders.

It’s Nancy Pelosi who is off the beam as what she in doing is dangerous to the national security of the USA by trying to diminish the constitutional authority of the elected Commander in Chief. Enemy nuclear tipped missiles in bound to hit the USA only give the President about 20 minutes to act. Obviously there would not be enough time for Pelosi to hold a Congressional hearing and a vote to determine if the President should retaliate or not. Pelosi just said that if Trump dos not immediately resign that the Democrats will impeach him next week when he will only have about a week left on his term in office. You have to wonder when failing to resign at the instruction of the opposing political party’s Speaker of the House became an impeachable offense? Obviously Pelosi and the Democrats want to impeach Trump and remove him from office solely to keep him from again running for President in 2024, that’s impeaching the President based upon him doing or not doing something years from now on into the future. When did that become an impeachable offense? In any case impeachment at this point is out of order and not necessary as Trump has said that he intends to leave office in an orderly process on January 20th and the President has not been found to have committed a legitimate impeachable offense after any sort of comprehensive and legitimate investigation. Pelosi is making herself look like a nut job and should instead by doing something constructive like working on more COVID relief for the American people.

"I'm so old" I can remember that we in the Army had a chain of command board (ostensibly to inform everybody that if somebody whose picture was on the board shows up to sound the alarm! I don't recall ever seeing a photo of a Speaker of the House. Generals, SecDef, but no Speaker. But I'm old and maybe I just don't remember. One of the many bits of fallout from Wednesday’s riot was the decision by Twitter to permanently ban President Trump’s account, as Allahpundit covered yesterday. While Jack Dorsey’s outfit has deleted some of Trump’s tweets in the past, pasted warnings on others, and even temporarily suspended his account, this was the first time the ban hammer had been swung at a public official in such a forceful and permanent fashion. Their stated reason for doing so was, at best, debatable in terms of any rational justification. Yes, they have rules against promoting violence, but contrary to some of AP’s analysis,

For a half-century, the trend in political culture has been inexorably in one direction: toward the steady loosening and eventually the near-obliteration of media filters. If someone has a voice that other people want to hear, that voice is going to be heard. No smug editor at the New York Times or damn anchorman at CBS News is going to get in the way. Who the hell elected them, after all, to decide what points of view were worthy of dissemination, what facts or rumors or even flat falsehoods should reach average citizens, who could decide for themselves what to make of it?

Wednesday’s mob assault on Capitol Hill was shocking and brazen: Hundreds of MAGA-hat-wearing rioters broke into the seat of American democracy. They stormed the halls, looting property and assaulting law enforcers, all in service of an absurd political demand: reversing the outcome of an election. Now where had I witnessed such scenes before? The answer: in blue-governed cities in my native Pacific Northwest throughout last summer and into the fall and winter. The right-wing political violence was met with universal rebuke from politicians of both parties and the media. But many of those who are loudest in condemning the Capitol Hill riot went radio-silent
