And just like that, it’s gone.Last week, a group from the Utah Division of Wildlife Resources dispatched to count sheep spied a shiny monolith in the middle of nowhere. It stood about 10 to 12 feet tall and had been expertly planted into the ground. Now, poof, it’s disappeared.“We have received credible reports that the illegally installed structure, referred to as the ‘monolith,’ has been removed,” the state’s Bureau of Land Management (BLM) said in a Facebook post on Saturday.Who took it? “An unknown party,” the BLM said.

Utah drumming up some tourism business. It is a great place to visit. But it pushes the bounds of believability.

I've been waiting for someone to make a fuss that the US "Gummint" has had it's own version of BLM for a long time.

Your government at work again. If it is interesting or has any value, steal it and pretend ignorance.
I hope it is radioactive and everyone who touched it dies after their genitals rot.

sfgate reports that reddit users combing through google earth archives determined it appeared sometime between August 2015 and October 2016, and that several movies had filmed in the area since that time. Curiously, no alien incidents in the area during that period.

It looked like it was made out of heating duct, and it even had rivets along the edges. From a distance it looked like the monolith from the movie, but up close no so much.

Probably retrieved by the same demographic who stole the life-sized Ronald McDonald. The college kids are on break. Plenty of free time on their hands.
And yes, Utah is wonderful. Don't tell anybody. Because it's been ruined by the 'VID exodus. Was driving through a neighboring farm town Saturday morning. License plates spotted in a six block drive down main street and two stop lights -- Cali, Cali, Cali, Wyoming, Texas, Florida, Arizona, and New Hampshire.

Aliens from outer space landed, looked around saw the news got back on board and got the hell out of here. They determined this is no place to be. The monolith was last seen at the drive through at McDonald's ordering McNuggets.
Trust me BLM has the object. Poof it disappeared like our election.

When the articles with photos first appeared after it was noticed, I wondered how deeply the thing could have been set into the rocky/sandy ground. However, post-removal photos show a simple triangular imprint in the sand, and truck tracks and footprints leading to, and away from the site. The thing had been simply set on the sand, maybe a few inches deep. It would have eventually blown over, when enough wind came up despite the protected canyon location.

Did the acronym for the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) cause you to do a double take? Whatever, whoever put the monolith there it probably took it back. Maybe the culprits were those paper plates on fishing poles from Ed Wood's Plan 9 from Outer Space. It must have been Vampira herself.
The article compares it to a similar item in Kubrick's 2001: A Space Odyssey (1968). For me it's more like 1971 than '68. I have it on good authority that this glorified probable remnant from a concrete piling is the monolith on the cover of the Who's 1971 album Who's Next, the one "saluted" by all four members of the group. Obviously, it's been chipped away at and polished up like the Hope diamond. I wonder what it smells like.
Just kidding. Incidentally, Pete Townshend and Roger Daltrey, 75 and 76-years old now, released a darn good album about a year ago. The 'Oo still live! And still rock.
At Ernest Hemingway's Key West residence (from his most productive years between 1930 and 1940) there is a large white porcelain container that the forty or so resident cats use as a drinking fountain, refilled regularly with clean water. Hemingway bought it from Sloppy Joe's bar on nearby Duval Street. Its earliest use was as a urinal in the bar's restroom.
