Supporters of Donald Trump are mocking Alyssa Milano after the diehard Democratic activist and fierce critic of the president and his Republican backers offered to extend an ‘olive branch’ to the MAGA crowd. ‘I'd like to extend an olive branch to Trump supporters. I am ready to move #ForwardTogether,’ the star of the hit TV show Charmed tweeted to her 3.7 million followers on Tuesday. ‘There’s so much work to do to heal the nation. Let’s be a part of the solution and not add to the problems we face.’ Milano then invited Twitter followers to reply with the hashtag #ForwardTogether.

‘There’s so much work to do to heal the nation. Let’s be a part of the solution and not add to the problems we face.’ I don't think you're facing any of the problems I'm facing, or any of the problems other 'normal' Americans face. And, just to be clear, by 'normal' I mean Americans who aren't rich, privileged, liberal white females.

Trump and his team deserve great credit for brokering the Abraham Accords but the landmark diplomatic developments in the Middle East recently are less about him than about his successor. The Accords, the surprise visit by Bibi Netanyahu to Saudi Arabia, and now the liquidation of Iranian scientist Mohsen Fakhrizadeh are all best understood as a vote of no confidence in Biden. Neither Israel nor its Sunni neighbors trusts the team that negotiated the Iran nuclear deal to be any tougher next year with Biden at the helm instead of Obama.

In a 5-4 vote late on Wednesday evening, the Supreme Court issued an injunction against Governor Andrew Cuomo’s order that allowed businesses to operate at the capacity of their choosing but limited religious services to either 10 or 25 people at a time. Cuomo’s not the only target of this injunction, however: A divided Supreme Court blocked New York from imposing strict limits on attendance at religious services

Conventional wisdom is that COVID-19 has caused thousands of deaths in the United States and nearly 1.5 million worldwide. This perception has been directly challenged by a study published by Johns Hopkins University on Sunday, November 22. Genevieve Briand, assistant program director of the Applied Economics master’s degree program at Johns Hopkins University, critically analyzed the impact that COVID-19 had on U.S. deaths. According to her, the impact of COVID-19 on deaths in the United States can be fully understood by comparing it to the number of total deaths in the country. According to study, “in contrast to most people’s assumptions, the number of deaths by COVID-19 is not alarming

A federal appeals court on Friday rejected a request by U.S. President Donald Trump’s campaign to block President-elect Joe Biden from being declared the winner of the battleground state of Pennsylvania, dealing another significant setback to Trump’s bid to overturn the results of the Nov. 3 election. “Free, fair elections are the lifeblood of our democracy. Charges of unfairness are serious. But calling an election unfair does not make it so,” wrote Stephanos Bibas on behalf of a three-judge panel. “Charges require specific allegations and then proof. We have neither here,” he wrote Bibas, who was nominated by Trump.

Republicans got two pieces of good news from Donald Trump yesterday. With the election mostly behind everyone except Trump himself, the GOP needs to focus on the last question still to be settled — control of the Senate. Two runoffs in Georgia on January 5th will determine whether Mitch McConnell or Chuck Schumer control the Senate floor, and Republicans worried that Trump might turn off his most dedicated followers with his repeated claims of election fraud in the Peach State. Yesterday, Trump told reporters that he will hold at least one get-out-the-vote rally for Kelly Loeffler and David Perdue, as soon as tomorrow:

I could go on at some length about old cases involving the arbitrary (and therefore unconstitutional) use of the government’s police power, but in this case it is worth dwelling for a moment on this rote belief that the Court should defer to the “experts” in the other branches about restricting fundamental constitutional rights, like religious liberty. The practice of democracy in our constitutional republic flourishes in the presence of contradictions. Democracy, itself, is bound by our inalienable rights, bestowed to us by our Creator. These rights, not given to us by our government by any majority or by any vote, cannot be rescinded, for they were not wrought by man. Voting is a contradiction for it is both public and private at the same time. Its process is intended to be secret, but transparent. Its agency is intensely partisan, but its effect is intended to be unifying. The legitimacy of voting must survive despite the contradictions intrinsic to the process.

The court's five conservatives, including Justice Amy Coney Barrett, who was confirmed just before the Nov. 3 presidential election and replaced liberal Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, ruled against the New York measures.
