New York City—It's been a significant question for the New York City Department of Education: how did the change to remote learning affect students, and along what lines? In a new report from City Council, there were significant racial disparities during the March to June remote learning timetable, as well as summer school. From the report: Schools where at least half the student population was Black and Hispanic were nearly eight times more likely to report low student engagement or poor attendance compared to schools with lower Black and Hispanic populations. Schools where 25% or more of the students were Black were nearly four times

Can we just quit beating around the Bush here? It’s a cultural thing.
Getting an education is “acting white”. And anybody who “acts white” is going to be shunned or worse.

Ya think? It won't be long before remote-learning will be condemned as elitist white racism. Never mind that in big cities it has been demanded by the majority minority teachers' unions.

I will confess to being shocked that students who behave in an undisciplined fashion at school exhibit the same characteristics at home. And Hunter Biden is a misunderstood child who has never done a wrong thing in his life.

So if you say "Once you take your eyes off them they flake out" -- is that racist or something else?

Exactly #2, every teacher knows what is happening and what the root cause is. And it's not technology or not enough funding. It's culture.
Asian and caucasian families not just value education, they also INSIST that their kids pursue it and do the work necessary to acquire it and improve their lives. Black families, in many cases, don't. There's the root of the problem. And no amount of funding or diversity training is going to change that.

If your parents don't value education, which is the case in a large number of black and Hispanic homes, then you won't pay attention, will skate and skip as much as possible. Kids where their culture calls getting an education "acting white".....and think that is bad, will do their best to avoid getting an education.
And remote learning makes it way easier to avoid getting an education.

Whaat? The internet that Algore invented is racist?
Duke U. Evaluated academic performance of black/white low income kids before and after providing 4 years of high speed internet access.
Executive summary: irrespective race, smart kids got smarter. Dumb kids GOT DUMBER.
Social media, gaming, porn...go figure.

Well I would say that those children’s illiterate and low information parents should be bearing most of the fault for those supposed disparities in learning. In that respect one of my daughters has a first grader and anytime the schools close in favor of so-called virtual learning, she rounds up her child and ensures that she is attentive to whatever is being taught by way of computerized distance learning. If children’s parents can’t figure out K-12 lessons and learning themselves or just don’t care, how can you blame their children for the disparities between them and children of attentive parents who ensure that their children are attending and paying attention to all their scheduled on-line classes? That’s a big reason that the schools must be reopened ASAP.

Schools where 25% of more of the population was white showed high student engagement. Yeah? How did I cause that?

The left believes there is a disparity in everything. The only way to remove the disparity is to get rid of the white race, which is the goal.

Did you know that the best remote learning programs are being created in India.
The above statement may or may not be fake news, but the thin strata of teacher union bosses and pols that are keeping our kids out of school, might want to treat this news as real.
God bless our teachers who want to get back in the classroom, and for those who can't go back for what ever reason, give them the grace to do the best they can.

Data shows that minorities learn just as much on the computer as they do in a classroom. I am so shocked I think I'll start drinking early today.

Sounds like it's just like black and Latin kids that go to school to me.
Same old same old.
They don't do well in school and they don't do well in virtual.

These people who spawned these children need to take responsibility for their education. Are they letting them hang out watching TV and texting or making them watch their lectures and doing the homework?

I once had a student who, when asked why he wasn't studying so he could get a good job, reply "Why bother? My Dad receives a check at his house every month and my Mom receives one at her house every month, so I will too. They always have."
That's the root of the problem.

Says here that bLACK and Latinx students show little interest in school even when at home, and at a safe remove from the Dreadful Systemic Racism they endure each day in the physical classroom. Hard to blame WHITE people in this scenario; probably the technology is to blame.
