Democrat presidential nominee Joe Biden’s proposed gun control policy includes a provision that could require every AR-15 rifle be registered under the National Firearms Act of 1934. Unless there were some form of carve-out, this could mandate that American gun owners pay a $200 federal tax per AR-15 that they own. The National Rifle Association’s Andrew Arulanandam told Breitbart News that the current “low end” estimate of privately-owned AR-15s in the United States is 18 million. A tax of $200 on 18 million AR-15s means that gun owners could potentially be required to a pay a collective $3.6 billion in taxes,
Come and get it, Joe... I’m not paying another tax on something I have already purchased, and paid taxes for...

An AR-15 semi-automatic rifle is just one model of semi-automatic rifle of which there are many. Chances are they would have to designate that all models of semi-automatic rifles be liable to be registered and taxed to keep from discriminating against just one model of semi-automatic rifle, as all semi-automatic rifles operate the same way mechanically.
Chances are the liberal Democrats would then move on to control semi-automatic handguns and shotguns in the same manner. Taxing semi-automatic firearms will not make them less dangerous as they will still be out there. Besides criminals and terrorists who have access to semi-automatic firearms are not going to obey any gun control laws that Biden proposes. What this will probably boil down to is just another liberal Democrat tax on law abiding citizens, that is until the liberal Democrats think they are feeling their Wheaties enough to propose confiscating all modern firearms that is their ultimate goal.

18 million is the low end estimate. Millions will not register creating overnight millions of criminals out of ordinary law abiding citizens.

I forgot to add that since it would effectively criminalize the ownership of an AR-15 (your gun would be illegal unless registered), it is highly likely to be unconstitutional under the ex post facto clause.

Hey Joe, I know my Sturmgeschütz III is an assault gun, but does my AR-14 fall into that category?

They will end up sending their ANTIFA mobs to each and every house. Or some similar Citizen Army for a house to house search for guns. They really think they are the new Reich. Since no one in the ongoing coup has been charged, prosecuted or put in jail, I can understand why they think they can do anything they want.
I used to think oath takers would stop them, but seeing city police allow their cities to be burned because their mayor or Governor told them to stand down, I'm not sure how many will fight for freedom. Or even resist killing civilians.

I think it's unconstitutional to tax something after you've already bought it. Besides, how do they know you even have one? It could have already been sold to someone else.

The money is not what is important. This would give authority to the tyrants to come into your home any time they like to "check on your registered weapons. In other words, "No search warrant needed!"

If 1% of folks fought back, that would be 18,000 gunfights. They'd lose at least 25% perhaps as high as 60%. They wouldn't like it. And if 5% fought back, that would be 90,000 - which is about 30 US Army brigades, or about 90 divisions.

Current US Army has roughly 150K in the infantry. I doubt that they would all fight to take guns away from Americans.
If this were to happen, and was resisted by even a tiny percentage....hard to know how that would turn out. Which side would National Guard wind up on? How many US Army troops would even fight against Americans?
Let's pray that we never have to learn the answers to these literally unthinkable questions.

The Second Amendment is essentially meaningless in mob ruled cities, as there is no stopping soros funded DAs from bringing felony charges against law abiding citizens, e.g., McCloskeys, who use firearms to defend themselves and property. A guy in Kenosha was also charged for brandishing a shotgun when goons threatened him at his home. And in the worst case, the Omaha bar owner who committed suicide after he was charged by a mob inspired rogue prosecutor.

You control the army and police by first starving the masses and then feeding them to keep their loyalty. Secondly, patriots can have all the guns but technology, held by the government, will shut down the communications preventing coordination of effort and reduce the gun owners to individuals. The confiscation is coming but these people who have shut down most free media have a certain time schedule.

Who will show up at our door to confiscate the firearm? The only support the police now have is conservatives, and you are going to tell me that the police will go along with an order to do this illegal act?

What Biden's gun control policies will do is make criminals' lives less stressful and safer by taking weapons and firearm capacity out of law abiding defenders' hands (but not from criminals' hands, since they don't obey gun laws anyway). Not only that, but another intention is to automatically transform a huge class of American gun owners--well over 20,000,000--into instant felons. This is dastardly, plenty of reason to keep Biden's greedy little fingers off our daughters and off our guns.
Since machine guns and actual assault rifles (which have machine gun capability at the flip of a switch) aren't generally available to civilians who aren't police SWAT team members, the semiautomatic rifle (AR-15, AR-10, Ruger Mini-14 and Mini-30, AK-47 and AK-74, Galil, etc, etc.) is the absolutely best self defense weapon against home invaders known to strike in groups of two or more. Every person I've talked to at various gun stores and ranges says the same: AR for self defense. For one thing, the gun, although extremely loud, hardly kicks at all, quite different from most shotguns. Handguns require much more practice to shoot well; they're essential for concealed carry, but if you're being charged by an OJ wannabe, you will grab the rifle, every time. The damage done by a bullet traveling at above 2,200 fps is beyond the body's elasticity recovery threshold. That's why hunters normally use rifles.
If the bad guys come in with pistols, your AR can, pardon the expression, trump their handguns. Less than a year ago in a rural area outside Tampa, two masked gunmen broke into an occupied house wanting money, and when the husband said he didn't have any, they began beating him half to death with two pistols. Then they moved toward the man's 11-year-old daughter. The wife, in bed and 8 months pregnant, got up to see what was happening, and one of the invaders took a shot at her. She picked up the family AR-15 and waited for one of the bad guys to cross in front of her. When one did, she gut shot him, causing the other to flee for his life. The gut shot bad guy made it 200 feet to a ditch, wherein he expired. Rifle rounds do much more damage than pistol rounds. Here's a news account (1:55) with a brief interview of the husband, who was badly injured.

In this day of the ubiquitous video camera there are literally thousands of videos of horrifying multiple attackers flooding into businesses, garages or residences, and "murder police" investigations of deadly attacks involving multiple masked shooters. If one is the target of such an invasion, one's choices are two, submit meekly (and still maybe get killed) or ambush the attackers in a suitable place with withering firepower. It's a shame that feral alleged people put law abiding citizens is mortal danger, but they do, every day. As Malone (Sean Connery) said in The Untouchables, "What are you prepared to do?"

Such a tax would instantly create a black market in unregistered AR15s, make instant criminals of every owner, and produce far less in taxes than it will cost to run such a program.
And, it would do absolutely nothing in curbing gun violence...just as many Americans would die of gunshots every year, certainly in the inner cities.

An AR typically goes for a grand or more. Is a buyer going to balk if it raises the cost by $200, or an owner 'dispose' of one because of the 'fee'?
NO.
It's to begin the process of registering every gun in civilian hands with the intention of removing them all. They're starting with the AR because they're 'scary'.

In Canada, there was a law requiring the registration of all rifles and shotguns "long guns". They discovered that only a tiny fraction of people would register their guns, and this wasn't with a long background check, and a $200 fee.
I don't think many of the semi-auto rifles in the country would be registered.
