The United Nations' World Food Programme on Friday won the 2020 Nobel Peace Prize for its efforts to combat hunger and food insecurity around the globe. The announcement was made in Oslo by Berit Reiss-Andersen, the chair of the Nobel Committee. The committee said the coronavirus pandemic has added to the hunger faced by millions of people around the world and called on governments to ensure that WFP and other aid organizations receive the financial support necessary to feed them.

It won probably because they didn't think it would have been wise to give it to obongo again.

This once prestigious Peace Award has become tainted to the point of comic insignificance by the obviously liberal—and anti American conservative bias on the part of the Nobel Committee. This became abundantly clear in 1990 when Mikhail Gorbachev was awarded the “Peace Award” for losing the cold war instead of to Ronald Reagan for winning the cold war. But, other interesting Peace Award winners qualify as “head scratchers” to include: Yasser Arafat (1994) “for great courage which has opened up opportunities for a new development towards fraternity in the Middle East", Al Gore (2007) “to build up and disseminate greater knowledge about man-made climate change”, and of course, Barack Obama (2009) "for his extraordinary efforts to strengthen international diplomacy and cooperation between peoples". The Nobel Peace Award now commands a degree of pride equal to spray paint graffiti on a George Washington statue.

Why would a world body whose only job is to feed people win a prize for feeding people? That is what the UN World Food Program is supposed to do. This prize actually is a participation prize for doing their job. Soup kitchens in some inner cities/towns deserve the prize more than the UN World Food Program.

Just another money pit. As a side note: All you hear locally is about food handouts. People who have lost their jobs are getting increased food assistance from the state. If they have kids, they are getting an unreal amount of EBT. Some of this "free food" is leaving the country.

The first round of statewide school test results from this school year are in, and they show that North Carolina students aren’t doing as well as they did before the coronavirus pandemic. Test results that will be shared at Wednesday’s State Board of Education meeting show that the majority of high school students did not pass state end-of-course exams given in the fall. The passing rates are also sharply lower on most of those exams than the prior fall, but the state Department of Public Instruction is cautioning against comparing the results.
