While the nation debated the veracity of conspiracy theories on President Donald Trump's coronavirus diagnosis, I began to worry about the one thing that The Donald, quarantined Illinois Gov. J.B. Pritzker, hospitalized former New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie and 42.4 percent of Americans — including me — all have in common.
We're dangerously fat. As soon as Trump tweeted his positive test results, news stories quoted respected physicians and "Dr. Oz" dropping the O-word — "Obesity," that is — issuing speculative warnings that Trump's fast-food physique might cause the president extreme suffering, or worse.
That is a touchy topic in the anti-body-shaming world we live in. Obesity as a contributing factor

Yeah the President is overweight like most Americans are these days but come walk around our local Walmart if you want to see real “obesity”.

When I weigh the government proscribed number you can count my ribs from a distance. I am currently 25% over the government target. So according to the government I am obese. Yet someone who is double the target weight is also obese. I had to meet with a nurse the other day and she was about 10 inches shorter than me and weighed more than I do. If she fell over she would roll around a while like the little girl in The Chocolate Factory movie. Yet the government makes no distinction of my weight and hers.
So when they say obesity increases the risk from covid do they mean a mere 25% over government target or do they mean more than 100% over target?
BTW, the other day someone referred to me as skinny.

Yes, obese people get sick. So do thin people. Yes obese people have died of covid. So have thin people. It's just fun to pick on fat people, especially if you aren't.

So at least 130 million are overweight. But the virus has killed 200,000 and quite a few victims were lightweight older people. Seems like quite a few people who are at 'high risk' have escaped the virus's jaws of death.

How can anyone include that quack Oz with "respected physicians"? Not only is he dumb, but he is fascinated by poop, and always talks about it!

I'm a Fluffy-American woman over 50. I have been extremely careful since this all started last spring. I can't wear a mask but I do take precautions.
I have been in hospital this past week and now rehab. I have been tested THREE times in the past week, all negative, thank God. However, I have been taking D3 for years, along with several other meds which appear on lists of preventative. They might consider studying the medical habits of those who are fluffy, but have thus far avoided the Kung Flu, rather than painting everyone with the same brush and calling it a day.

I have been taking D3 supplements for a couple of years. And I have not been what I think of as sick for over a year. And even then it was just a cold that made me feel like lousy but was far from serious.
Don't know if the D3 can take any credit for that, but it is not expensive and doesn't do any harm unless you take way too much. The only thing that bothers me from time to time is allergies that irritate my asthma.

The president looks good to me. Sure, he could lose a few pounds, but he carries his weight well, always looks neat, and he is a real man and leader. If he decided he wanted to lose weight, I have no doubt he would do it.
He accomplishes pretty much everything he sets his mind to do.

Y woulod imagine he obesity thing would depend on the cause of the obesity-a diet of junk food or of larger portions of balanced food groups for example. Mobility, social support, even religious/psychiatric balance or what you think.

The president is overweight but obese? I wouldn't put him in the same category as Pritzker and Gov. Christie.
