Duluth–It was a busy Saturday for Mike and Chelsea Brandon, who had driven from Eagan to find their next home. After a blitz of seven viewings, the couple put in an offer on a charmer that checked all their boxes: two-car garage, a deck, and room for their 2-year-old, Lochlann, to play. “We just live outside, and that’s how we want to raise our son,” Chelsea said.(Snip) More buyers from the Twin Cities and other metro areas are relocating to Duluth as work-from-home options become permanent and the appeal of the outdoors lures younger buyers.

See how that works? And when the property taxes plummet, and they increase taxes on businesses to make up for those losses, and those businesses leave, good luck Minneapolis.

I guess it depends on what you like. I'm guessing the unspoken appeal is a much lower crime rate. But as the article indicates most of the housing stock is older and on small lots. They need to check back on these new residents about the 3rd week of February. By then the cold and snow have lost their ''charm'' but warm weather is still months away.

Why, you may ask, do Minneapolis people want to move farther north where it’s colder and grayer. Do they not know by moving south it will be sunny and warmer?

This says it all about the brainpower of these people:
FTA: “We just live outside, and that’s how we want to raise our son,”
Just whom are they kidding. I know this area very well. They don't call it the Arctic Riviera for nothing. Hiking trails can still have ice and snow patches in MAY. And if poor little 2 yr old Lochlann isn't traumatized by "living outside" in the frigid weather, he'll be eaten alive in the short summers by the MN State Bird--- the mosquito. Or a gazillion biting flies or slimy tent caterpillars.

The million dollar question is: "Have these folks learned anything or will they continue to vote for insane, barking mad leftists in their new city?"
My bet is that the majority are still going to vote for lunatics who will destroy their new city, just like they did the old one.

Who are they kidding when they wrote that article! People will be leaving the twin cities (and Portland and Seattle etc etc) in droves to get out to the safer suburbs.

I had an uncle who lived in Duluth. His wife was an extreme lefty and she NEVER once in 60 plus years came to any family get togethers. I literally never met the woman. My uncle came solo about eight or ten times to family events, a great guy, funny and a very talented guitar player. But, he and my father spent decades barbing each other on e-mail about his left wing politics and my father's conservative politics. Generally good natured.
I never was able to understand why my aunt hated the rest of the family so much. I know that there were cousins, never knew exactly how many, sexes or names, of course, they never came to family events, either. Weird folks in Duluth, at least a few of them.

LOL What about the elephant in the room, Strib? In typical fake news, not one - not even a smidgeon - of a comment about the unrest and the lack of support of law and order in this city. Duluth is a great city -- I'll be visiting there tomorrow - but don't think that this migration will make it liberal. It's already there....don't you remember the story of their mayor (Emily Larson) who was elected with 72% of the vote, calling for the end of the word "chief" in city job titles because it was racist? The surrounding iron range is turning Republican, however, and hopefully that will have a good influence on this harbor city.

Fear over civil unrest is the driving force for leaving Minneapolis. No parent who has any means wants to live where there is a possibility of being assaulted/insulted/bullied or their kids ending up in the same school system that has spawned the rioters and protesters. Polite liberals will never mention it so they invent a good talking point with the work at home thing. Just how stupid is the Star Tribune?

My home town. Go Duluth, a beautiful scenic city, at the tip of Lake Superior.
