Two Amish brothers in Missouri admitted having sex with their 12-year-old sister and getting her pregnant — but managed to avoid jail time because a prosecutor feared they’d “be eaten alive” in prison, according to a report.
The abuse came to light after a doctor alerted authorities that the girl was pregnant just after she turned 13 — and she said that four of her brothers, two of them also minors, had been having sex with her, according to the Webster County Citizen.
The eldest two — Aaron Schwartz, 22, and 18-year-old brother Petie — admitted to police that they had sex

Since when does a prison sentence prioritize the "well being" of the prisoner? Furthermore, and this has bothered me for years, who is running these prisons? If I were, nobody would be beating, raping or killing anyone else. Swift and HARSH punishment would meted out to those who violated the rules. We have come to accept, as a society, that these things just happen, nothing can be done. With the technology we have, we could end it very quickly.

Perhaps we could go back to the Old Testament and find out if there is a remedy for this.

So the answer is no jail time? Now you understand why I don't have trust in government running our programs. . .

So put 'em in isolation! Also, the parents had no idea? Also, what punishment for the two minors? Also, has this child and her baby been removed from this home?!?
Absolutely infuriating.

NY Daily News says younger two weren't charged. Then this article says probation will be revoked because they had contact with the victim, now age 13. No other details.

I lived and worked next to Amish people for years. Never had an issue. One one hand you have to admire their faith, but on the other hand, there is a dark side tomtheir culture--stuff like this and worse-- that is kind of well-known in heavily Amish areas.

So the brothers will not go to prison for their own protection. But no one could protect the sister. Disgusting

We know what the state punishment is. What is the Amish punishment? Saying it is severe is not enough for me. How can a reporter leave that question unanswered?

I'm without comment! Yikes! Very sick! The Father and Mother should be jailed and the kids taken away from them!

But they look so cute riding in those buggies going to and coming from their church services, and they are for the most part hard working. My biggest question is why the older brothers came back from their exploring the real world experience to remain in the Amish community.

Something the brothers should have thought of before now.

He also told the paper that the Amish community “had punished all four of the boys” and “made it clear that this punishment was very severe.”
That a prosecutor would say this is truly frightening. Think of the implications when it comes to sharia - already being pushed by some of our elected officials.
And with the Amish, why do they always seem to look the same? Inbreeding? Serious question.

Sadly, this is not an isolated case in the Amish communities. They like to take care of these issues themselves, but they are not really effective when it comes to issues like this - and it can end up with even more girls getting abused.

Well, it's no wonder. In spite of their quaint lifestyle and their admirable work ethic, the Amish are still a cult. Their faith is based in part on rigid external observances which have nothing to do with the teachings of the Bible.

re #10, et al: Perhaps the popularity of Amish jokes here is that the Amish seem the most opposite of the ones that are jokingly called Amish. Violent Black (TM) Thugs with no sense of self-restraint, vs. white pacifists who, in the company of others, are restrained almost to a fault.
Referring to one as the other, when they are stereotypically near-opposites, is irony or sarcasm -- the favored form of humor among intellectuals (and people who want to appear erudite and sophisticated). It's also a way to backhand the 'Progressive' MSM way of deflecting attention from race when the perp is Black (TM), because it conflicts with their all-races-the-same-except-racist-whites propaganda.

#17, serious answer, inbreeding IS the problem. Ever since before they came to America in 1700s, to quote Wikiedia, "The Amish are aware of the advantages of exogamy, but for religious reasons, marry only within their communities."
Do this for at least three centuries (about 15 generation), and yeah, everybody looks alike.
