As the Senate prepares for yet another brutal Supreme Court nomination fight, one particularly sensitive issue is creating apprehension among Democrats: what to do with 87-year-old Sen. Dianne Feinstein, the ranking member of the Judiciary Committee.
Feinstein, the oldest member of the Senate, is widely respected by senators in both parties, but she has noticeably slowed in recent years. Interviews with more than a dozen Democratic senators and aides show widespread concern over whether the California Democrat is capable of leading the aggressive effort Democrats need against whoever President Donald Trump picks to replace the late Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg.

Why is it presumed the Democrats "need" an aggressive effort? Is there some reason they can't behave like serious adults and asked serious on point questions?
I have little doubt that Democrats will behave childishly but that doesn't mean they need to do so.

Why should there be a battle. We don't need to put up with anymore Democrat nonsense. Send the nomination to the floor and get it over with.

Guys, have we lost our minds? Arexwe trying to have a House of Lords over there in the Senate? Top Senators have amazingly debilitating situations over the years. The media and the other Senators hide everything before the voters. Unelected staffers carry out the duties while the Senator continues with a full paycheck. Everybody pretends all is well. Feinstein is not well. She should be made to retire!!

The dems must be planning to really up their attack efforts in excess of their smears on Kavanaugh. I thought Feinstein's sleazy smear tactics at that show trial were as low as one could go--but I honestly can't envision exactly how far into the cesspool the democrats are committed to sink. You can bet they are looking for a loyal communist who will invent some accusation against President Trump's designee. Professor Christine Blasey Ford crashed and burned on them, so they need to do better than her in their choice of accusers.

Dianne, honey, 87 years old? Right up there with Ruthie, no? Go ahead. Make my day. See what the pubbies do to you this time if you attempt to shred Judge {fill in the blank} like you did Justice Kavanaugh.

There’s no legal requirement that she even appear before the judiciary committee. Send it to the floor for the vote.

The old time liberal Democrats have a lot of their so-called leading politicians who are quickly becoming decrepit and just plain old. All you have to do is look at Biden, Feinstein, and Pelosi who are all on their way out with a few of their oldies having permanently packed it in in the last couple of years. It’s the same on the Supreme Court where the Democrat super feminist Justice just packed it in, with others to follow.
Democrats and Republicans are generally different in those respects, when elected almost all liberal Democrats are already liberal lawyers, and once they find a home in the “Political Party of Big Government” they stay in DC until they are wheeled away; while Republicans usually only stay in the DC Republican caucus until they can make a name for themselves and then slip off to some high paying corporate or lobbying job.
The younger Democrats who are bound to be replacing the above decrepit Democrat fossils are mostly all radical socialist types who are not satisfied to work within the current constitutional system and are out to transform America into some sort of socialist utopia using everyone else’s money until that runs out, and then who knows?

I doubt that she is widely respected by senators of both parts. Tolerated might be a better word. The only senator that might respect her would be schmuck, since they are both rabid anti second amendment

What can Senate Democrats "aggressively" do?
They can't bottle it up in committee. They can't prevent a floor vote. They can't win a floorvote.
You could replace Feinstein with Gumby, Mr. Potato Head, or Mr. Ed and achieve the same level of effectiveness.

There's a seat, left by a woman, to be filled at the SCOTUS.
There's a woman being put forward to fill that seat.
There's (presently) a woman heading the Dem side of the Judiciary Committee.
Men, on the other hand, dem men, want to replace this woman with a man, either Durbin or Whitehouse.
Real tone deaf play, if they do it.

The hearing is all kabuki theater anyway, everybody already knows what the committee vote is going to be. So why treat the public like chumps as if we didn’t know this? The hearing should consist of the record that was made in 2017 when Amy Coney Barrett testified last time, plus, at most, two hours of followup questions, then vote so the full Senate can vote within 72 hours after they’ve run the full course of their gasbaggery. Get her on the Court by October 5 and let the Dems pound sand. Good payback for how they tormented Kavanaugh and railroaded the impeachment process.

#16 has the right approach. No need for 3 days of false accusations about what happened in high school. Amy Barrett has been through all that 3 years ago. Just some followups.
Wanna bet that at the last minute there will be a letter to DiFi with accusations of sexual abuse of a teen aged boy????

DiFi, Pelosi, Nadler...they're quickly becoming history. They are the UNIPARTY Dem/House Division, and they have no successors. Didn't need any, until the rise of the Dem Rads, like AOC and her Squad. The profiteers are about at the end of their road. Their sponsors need to protect the UNIPARTY coalition...but then Mitch and his boys are getting older, too. No one gets out of here alive...but they can't take it with them, so it goes to their heirs and friends.

The other day, a comment was made about Amy Cony Barrett having seven children being a big thing that can be held against her (Catholics have big families). Did anyone note that five of two of these children are Haitian adoptees, which means Amy CB actually gave birth to only five, which is the same record achieved by another Catholic or CINO Nancy Pelosi. Do they hold it against Nancy? No, in Nancy's case, it's considered a great achievement.

One of my GOP Oklahoma US Senator, James Inhofe, is 85 yo right now. He's up for re-election. What is it about the job they think they are good to go past 90?
As to Feinstein, I called both my senators during the Kavanaugh hearings and asked them to "have a word" with her at some point and explain they had a constituent in Oklahoma that while she disagreed with her she always had a degree of respect for her. But, after the Kavanaugh experience she no longer has any respect.

The arrogance of these people in Washington is shameful. They've made their underhanded millions off of the taxpayer. They've gotten their names in lights. And now they think that they are so indispensable that they continue until they're near zombies. Where did they lose touch? When did they change from civil servants to civil serpents? When one of them brags (like Biden) that they've been there for decades, I can't help but think that our founding fathers would hang their heads in shame.

What is to "handle"?
If the Republicans have 50+ votes, she will be the new Supreme Court justice. It's not rocket science.
Or are they talking about handling the "optics" so that the Demon-Rats don't look as impotent as they will be on this issue? Hey, if a senile doddering old fool can be their presidential candidate, why can't a senile doddering old fool be the Demon-Rat face of "opposition"?!?!?!?
