Where’s “The Talk” When We Need It?

For many years now, we’ve gotten mountains of press about “The Talk,” the rite of passage lecture that black parents feel obliged to give their sons so that they won’t end up getting shot by the police. Apparently, unlike white people who are always fighting with cops and resisting arrest, young black men must be purer than Caesar’s wife. (Snip)Having seen video footage of the arrests of George Floyd (fighting with cops), Rayshard Brooks (fighting with cops) and Jacob Blake (fighting with cops), it looks like at least some black men in America could use a refresher course on “The Talk.”

Do they think white boys don't get the same talk??? Or maybe we learned it because we saw our fathers do it when they got pulled over. My father gave me a lot of other advice, too, like (being a country boy) don't walk or drive across somebody's field and definitely don't hunt on someone else's land if you don't have permission. The farmer/landowner might shoot you as a trespasser. Same for messing with somebody else's livestock or even their dogs. Yeah, he would be wrong to shoot you, but you'll be dead and can't argue with him.

Chris Rock put it out as a video.
I don't bother with Ann any more. She has expended her entire good will account, like many other formerly conservative writers.

Do they think white girls didn't get The Talk? I did when I got my driver's license. My father told me pull over, keep your hands on the wheel and be polite. It's not hard to do.

This is a good article. If boycotting, there’s no need to advertise.

If black parents are, in fact, giving 'The Talk' then why do so many of their kids have run-ins with the police?
It's a tired old trope that a traffic stop involving a black person will turn into some sort of Wild West standoff and that police have any interest in intimidation, threats, harassment, etc.
The reality is that police cruisers have computers, radios, phones, plate readers, etc. They know who you are, your arrest record, your vehicle registration info from the plates, etc. before they ever approach your car - unless it's stolen of course. They aren't going to be surprised if you're black and because every stop is usually video recorded and logged they aren't going to stop you merely because you're black.
Of course, this common sense/21st century technological reality tends to invalidate all the victimhood which is why it's roundly ignored.

I forget the exact number, but I believe I read that it took 7 minutes for Officer Lane (Minneapolis PD) to get George Floyd, sitting in his car, to put his hands on the steering wheel where Lane could see them.

Nobody gave me that talk. Nor did any of my friends, to my knowledge. In the rare case I encountered a cop nothing happened. But I didn't grow up being overwhelmed by tribal accounts that cops just want to kill me.

Thanks for the late newsflash, Ann anti-Trumper. The point about BLM not wanting to be around large numbers of black people has already been put out there by Tommy Sotomayor. Also, Tommy said these BLM blacks are not "real" blacks or they would not stand by and let these white guys yell n*&^r at other white guys.

Excuse a second post. Just wanted to add our 3 daughters were told to respect authority and police are authority figures. Being polite in most circumstances is a plus.

I am a white female. I received "the talk" about how to act if I'm pulled over. I have been pulled over three times in the past thirty-five years. Each time I was courteous and drove away with a warning. One situation was an obvious speed trap at the bottom of a very steep hill and I still received a warning. Being courteous and apologetic, if necessary, will work more often than not.
Many cities have been burned in retaliation for the deaths of people who'd still be alive today had they only followed the directions of the police officers involved. That part is lost on the SJW crowd, the news media and liberal politicians.

I’m a white female too and though I don’t remember a specific talk, I seemed to always have known that I was supposed to show respect to law enforcement. And every other adult for that matter. Of course, I grew up in the 50’s and 60’s.

How about a couple of suggestions for blacks afraid of being shot by white cops:
"Obey the law."
If you are detained by police, "Obey their lawful commands."
If you break the law, disobey their lawful commands, get tased twice by police trying to arrest you, and try to get into your vehicle with a knife, don't be too surprised if you get shot.

Taki's Mag published John Derbyshire's alternate version of The Talk several years ago and not surprisingly, it caused a firestorm.

With the exception of the protected class, most young people realize that common sense dictates you do not get belligerent with a person carrying a gun. ANY person. If that person is wrong you are not going to fix anything on the spot - deal with it later in the proper way.

But wait, there’s more. Ann goes on to talk about there being no such largesse when it comes to white men like Kyle Rittenhouse. Good article….
