With their boycott of games earlier this week to protest the police shooting of Jacob Blake in Kenosha, Wisconsin, athletes in the National Basketball Association and Major League Baseball have crossed a bridge that they may find difficult to return from. Though professional athletes have become increasingly politicized since former San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick began his “Star Spangled Banner” protests in 2016, the widespread cancellation of games, including NBA playoff contests, is unprecedented.
The walkout in support of Blake, who was wanted on a sexual-assault charge and whose own girlfriend called the cops on him, hardly represents the kind of compelling case against police brutality

I believe that now would be a great time for some wealthy people to start a new NON-POLITICAL basketball league. Make it fun, affordable and patriotic. To heck with the NBA.

I'm a huge sports fan but I've watched my last NBA or NFL game. I watching college sports to see how that goes.

Liberals have been trying to infiltrate and destroy professional sports for years. Looks like they’ve finally accomplished it. These athletes are not winning converts or respect. They are openly insulting their customers like they will continue to attract their huge salaries with or without fans. Without the public they are irrelevant. Antifa and BLM will not be sitting in the stands cheering them on.

The NBA was always on thin ice with me. Inmates running the asylum , professional wrestling officiating, stars over teams...
Now they bring in politics and “social justice.” I’m done for good with them.

When the NBA is reformed the rules should either take the basket to 12 feet or not allow professionals over 6'4".
The 7 foot tall players have destroyed the original form of the game. You now have to be a tall freak to play.

I haven't watched the NBA in over three decades it became too black almost squeezing out any good white players but the court antics borders on fake wrestling. When the white cop hating, loud mouth, African warlord Lebron James stepped into the picture I knew it was near the end. In these days of the SJW and 'cancel culture' this has to be the most gross 'cancel culture' of them all. Shaking my head and laughing out loud. Adios NBA, NFL, MLB and NASCAR you got woke for sure.

#5. I say put the goal in the floor so, the attitudinally challenged (i.e., midgets) would become super-stars in the nba.

This action is guaranteed to do them harm. Psychologically, when one is forced to wait too long for something he wants, he loses interest. I wish I had some interest left to lose but that left years ago. Nothing will amuse me more than seeing pro sports "heroes" actually working for a living or selling pencils on burned out streets. The parties, drugs, Maseratis, girls and luxury homes, all gone.

Please NBA protest forever. There are always more men who want a chance to play and get rich. All those who protest should have their contracts cancelled. Go find new men to play and have a chance at the American dream.

#1 has a great idea.
When Trump retires in 2024, he could form the New Football League, a totally patriotic league, with contractual requirements to avoid any form of disrespect to the national anthem, flag, etc. and no political slogans on the field.

Reply 9; it’s interesting you would write about losing interest in the game if forced to wait too long. I was keen on basketball in my college days, playing briefly on the team (very briefly). I followed the Lakers the entire time they had Elgin Baker, Jerry West, Shaque, and Koby. Then came along the NBA thugs. I quit watching and now have no idea who’s playing, except for LeBron (only on account of his notoriety). I have zero interest in all sports, even golf! The politics didn’t help.

Its really hard to care about people who insult you and think they are hurting you. Going negative, instead of doing something positive, solves nothing. It does solve the problem of what to watch on a Saturday afternoon! Watching something else can even get to be a habit!

These guys are good at slam dunking a basketball but logical thinking is not one of their skills. I sense a lot of fans will discover other interests and simply never return. They won't miss me anyway since I haven't watched a game since Larry Bird played for the Celtics but there are some devoted fans who will not be coming back.

I wonder when Labron will move to China. The whole league can go too, for that matter.

Fox News reported this morning that the players who caused the suspension of games have been taking direction from Barack Obama, so you know that most likely those players will end up shooting themselves in the foot.

All these 'protesting' and 'boycotting' sports 'heroes'.
These people are not heroes.
They are performance cast members of an entertainment company.
Let's see.... NFL, NBE, MLB, to a lesser extent NASCAR and the NHL.
What do they ALL have in common?
Television...
Hmmmmm.....
