Here is a prediction about the November election: If Donald Trump wins, in a trustworthy vote, what’s happening this week in Kenosha, Wisconsin, will be one reason. Maybe the reason. (Snip)With some exceptions, the media have been reluctant to shine a bright light on the summer’s violence—both the riots and the concurrent spike in violence. The New York Times ignored or downplayed the subject for weeks. One of its first major articles appeared in mid-August, under the headline “In the Wake of Covid-19 Lockdowns, a Troubling Surge in Homicides.”

This article could have been written with a lot fewer words: Trump and the GOP are right about the riots. We were wrong, but I’m still going to say Trump and the GOP are bad anyways because whaaaa. I was willing to give this piece a little more credit, except they really lost me when they lied by saying that the Times earnestly began to try and understand heartland voters. Obvious, provable lie. They didn’t set out to understand them after the 2016 election. They set out to trap and destroy them. They only destroyed themselves.

Did you read the entire article?
Urging Biden to go to Kenosha and meet with the Blake's to salvage his campaign?
Stating that President Trump " is temperamentally incapable of showing up at a national tragedy and giving a unifying speech."
This is hogwash!

Yes, it’s the Atlantic, and George Packer might as well be anyone published there.
“Prescient” isn’t it: “Predictable” is.

Biden is done. He's washed up, can't utter an intelligent sentence and no one is supporting these riots. The Dems make horrible judgements and have no program other than destruction. Time to pile on, take all three branches of government in the election and keep putting all of these criminals in jail.

I threw up in my mouth a little after reading just a few lines. I don't want to lose my entire lunch.
Joe Biden and his pals don't condemn the violence and they do nothing about it. The Atlantic cannot save Sleepy Joe in his basement.

This is “journalism”?
Here is a prediction about the November election: If Donald Trump wins, in a trustworthy vote, what’s happening this week in Kenosha, Wisconsin, will be one reason. Maybe the reason. And yet Joe Biden has it in his power to spare the country a second Trump term.
It’s not as if there aren’t about 150 reasons to vote for Trump, and 150 reasons to chew off your arm before you’d let it vote for Biden.
Read that first paragraph and you know everything that is going to be said, and you save so much time by ignoring the half-witted writer.

I'm sorry. I tried to read this piece of crap but could not stand it for long.
God bless Julia Jackson and her family. She brought a soothing balm of prayer when others brought kerosene. What a woman.
Dems have been fomenting exactly this violent revolution for years. You are seeing the US Palestinian faction, blood thirsty and uncontrollable even to its creator, the dem leadership.
God bless President Trump for charging into that mob on our behalf. I will **never** forget what he has done for us.

I stopped at "If George Floyd was crushed to death by depraved indifference, Jacob Blake is the object of an attempted execution."
A jerk THIS biased is not interesting to me, even if the headline indicates that this blind pig may have actually stumbled upon a acorn of truth.

This is laughable garbage. It's fringe, whackadoodle nonsense. The libs are outside the mainstream. The mainstream is us. Their criticisms and pathetic and dull.

If Trump doesn't go to Kenosha, he is cold and uncaring. If he goes to Kenosha, he is an opportunistic ambulance chaser looking for a photo-op. The Democrats are only worried about how things look for their campaign. In other words: never let a good crisis go to waste. The optics continue to erode for the democrats.

The writer urges Biden to visit Kenosha, then proceeds to add, "Then, on the burned-out streets, without a script, from the heart, Biden should speak to the city and the country."
That's a physical impossibility, as Biden cannot speak without a script.

Remember the Jeremy Boob cartoon character from the Yellow Submarine movie? Flitting about, dabbling in the arts, but ultimately doing nothing. THE Nowhere Man. That is every article I've read from the Atlantic. Always verbose prose up and down and around the logic of an issue and in the end being the usual vapid, liberal nonsense. Plus they lie. A lot.

Yeah, #14, what´s this BS about never letting a crisis go to waste. That´s a Democratic talking point, and a damned ugly one. The Democrats have failed, night after night, never letting this crisis go to waste. Cities on fire from Sea to Shining Sea, and all this Democratic hack can do is to have nightmares about four more years of Donald Trump? Note to George: it´s up to mayors and governors to maintain order in their states. It is NOT up to the president of the United States to rush to every "national tragedy" (almost always caused by Democratic negligence) to calm nerves and reassure devastated communities; that´s the job of mayors and governors And since when is widespread rioting, which has continued for months on the watch of various hack Democratic mayors and governors, a "national tragedy"? It´s a local dust-up that needs a good mayor, not a president. Presidents aren´t supposed to show up every time there´s a dust-up in a mid-sized city, for the same reason the flag must not mbe lowered to half mast every time there´s a school shooting. Half-masts are rightly reserved to commemorate the deaths of former presidents and other notables. It´s a gesture of respect, and Kenosha deserves very little respect. Quick, what´s the mayor or Kenosha´s name? Where is Kenosha located within Wisconsin?
God bless Julia Jackson, but is she praying for the white couple in St. Louis who stood down a mob that certainly would have killed them had they not been armed? I suppose they´re just a bit too well-to-do to merit the prayers of black and brown neighbors.
It´s too late for Joe Biden. He and his merry band of hacks and cowards have already lost Wisconsin through terrible Democrat governance and Joe´s refusal to leave his goddamned basement. Minnesota probably fell to the Republicans after the George Floyd mess and its subsequent, spectacular malgovernance. (What kind of mayor directs the police to abandon a police precinct to be burned to the ground, for no good reason?!?)
What a mendacious train-wreck of an article. This cupcake of an author is stuck with four more years of Donald Trump, and they´ll be well-deserved years of serious governance, even if Trump is frequently boorish. Say what you must about Trump, he doesn´t instruct police to walk away from police precincts to be burned by a mob that could be controlled by the National Guard within 36 hours. And Mike Pence if absolutely right: “Law and order are on the ballot,”
