Have we passed peak Biden?

Original Article

A consensus has formed about this presidential election: it is Joe Biden’s to lose. As long as his vice-presidential nomination doesn’t backfire, or he does not spectacularly bungle the debates, the soon-to-be-confirmed Democratic nominee will be in the White House by the end of January. Just look at the polls. Well, do look at the polls, and you’ll notice that Biden is losing ground. He’s still ahead, and comfortably, but the race narrowed in July, just as the media started to discuss a Biden presidency as if it were a fait accompli.

Despite crashing in early primaries Biden was the last consensus barrier to Bernie Sanders. He now is the assumed barrier to a Trump reelection, not because of anything he has said or done, but simply because he is not Trump. Democratic Party professionals simply want Biden to "hold it together" past the election. Voters are beginning to see that he would not be president for very long. As this realization grows, a team of socialists around him will likely scare the daylights out of even a few Democrats, not to mention swing voters. Let us at least hope.

Only a person who would sell the souls of their children would vote for a pure communist. Every single policy that Biden puts in place will destroy our economy. And in doing so he will destroy the stock market. And in destroying the stock market he sends your savings, 401K and retirement plans up in smoke. Remember, the sick communist elites of the dem/communist party preach from the same play book that Fidel Castro and Hugo Chavez preached to Cuba and Venezuela. Both Cuba and Venezuela had great economies before those two thugs took over. Got it...

The race for the presidency hasn't really begun. As far as the inevitability of Biden's win is concerned, the article is crap. The warm-up band hasn't even started to play for this concert, let alone the main act.

This is a worthless article. It starts with all the dem talking points and tries to add a little uncertainty while still pretending that Uncle Joe isn't senile and is a real challenger. The author is a moron.

A good friend of mine whose mother died of Alzheimer's says that watching Biden is like reliving the early stage of her disease, just before it was diagnosed. The latest incident came last week when he got the venue he was in wrong, then claimed he was joking. He said his mother used to do that, too; getting something wrong that she should have known easily, then claiming she was only joking. She also called her kids by the wrong names, flew into rages for no apparent reason and would sometimes grope for the right word and be unable to remember it or just blurt out word salad. In short, your typical Joe Biden public appearance these days.

The fate of Hong Kong should make us worried about Taiwan. China’s introduction of a new security law for Hong Kong — which hollowed out the spirit of the ‘one country, two systems’ notion — is a powerful reminder of the importance of sovereignty for the Chinese Communist party. We should ask whether Taiwan is next on the list. In the past few months, as the world battled to control the COVID-19 pandemic, Beijing indulged in increased military activity across the Taiwan Strait.

For the second day in a row, researchers say new COVID-19 cases in the United States have numbered under 50,000. About 45,400 new cases were recorded Monday, according to data from Johns Hopkins University, the first time since late June with two straight days under 50,000. There were about 47,500 on Sunday. U.S. cases averaged about 60,000 per day in July. The university has recorded 4.718 million U.S. cases since the pandemic began and 155,400 deaths.

In the midst of President Harry Truman’s controversial firing of General Douglas MacArthur during the Korean War, Air Force General George Kenny, who brilliantly led MacArthur’s air force in the Southwest Pacific in World War II, wrote that when the histories of the Korean War are written, they will "add still more to the luster of MacArthur's reputation as a military leader." General Kenny was wrong about historians, who have largely taken Truman’s side in the debate over how to deal with China’s entry into the war. But in a larger geopolitical sense, General Kenny was right. China’s rise in the 21st century

Former President Barack Obama recently spoke at civil rights hero John Lewis’s funeral, and if you read Slate you will learn his eulogy was literally “perfect.” Back in the real world, Obama raised a lot of eyebrows for using a funeral service to deliver a political jeremiad. While Obama previously earned some measure of respect from his political opponents calling out “woke cancel culture,” what Obama said at Lewis’s funeral was a full-on endorsement of exactly the kind of left-wing radicalism that seeks to discredit and bully opponents rather than persuade them. The big news from Obama’s speech was that Obama came out in favor of eliminating the filibuster.

Koehn ran an events business in Houston, and in midsummer things died down, making it the perfect time for a great American road trip. He’d empty out a coffee can of cash that he’d carefully socked away over the course of the year, counting it to see how many days they could afford to spend on the road. When Olivia de Havilland, the grande dame of the Golden Age of Hollywood, died last week at age 104, the tributes and memories for a life well lived poured in. She was the last surviving cast member of the epic Gone with the Wind. She won two Academy Awards. She was romantically pursued by everyone from Jimmy Stewart to Howard Hughes to a young Jack Kennedy. She challenged and helped change punitive film-industry practices toward performers. But one chapter in her life was missing from almost all the tributes. In its 3,000-word obituary the New York Times failed to mention the key role she played

On Aug. 1, 1945, 12-year-old Hideko Sudo went to bed fully clothed and full of worry. For days, air raid alerts had left the coastal city of Toyama on edge, prompting her school's closure. More alarmingly, earlier that day, American planes had rained down leaflets warning of an imminent attack. Hideko's fears proved well-founded. Despite a sophisticated alert system and a decade of air defense drills, the arrival just after midnight of a wave of B-29 bombers plunged Toyama into chaos. Superfortresses — 173 of them — encountered only sparse antiaircraft fire as they released around 1,500 tons of incendiaries onto the city's center.

A few years ago, three things happened in the course of a single week in my life. First, a friend told me about a letter her daughter, then 11, had received from her closest summer-camp friend. The girl had some big news: She was now a boy. Then, another mother told me she and her daughter were sitting at a synagogue lunch when they were joined by a man who “presented” as a woman. In 2016, the news-minding public endured an endless chant branding Donald Trump’s character and personality as “unfit” for office. It was a slogan deployed against him by no less than President Obama and Hillary Clinton. Clinton debuted it in a major campaign speech echoed in a campaign ad featuring conservative writer Charles Krauthammer. In her speech, Clinton called Trump “tempermentally unfit to hold an office that requires knowledge, stability, and immense responsibility. This is not someone who should ever have the nuclear codes.” Obama said, “the Republican nominee is unfit to serve as president.”

More than 60 years ago, a worker at Stonehenge kept a drilled-out cylinder from one of the monument's massive upright stones during a restoration project, and last year, on the eve of his 90th birthday, returned the stone. A new analysis of it has now helped solve the mystery of where the giant stones were quarried. Chemical analysis has shown that the drilled-out stone — along with almost all of Stonehenge's most massive stones — came from West Woods in Wiltshire, just 15 miles (25 kilometers) from the Neolithic monument, said University of Brighton geoscientist David Nash, who led the study.

Joe Biden has delayed naming his vice presidential pick by two weeks amid worries the process has become a mess that has pitted women against woman. Biden said last week he would announce his running mate the first week of August but that appears unlikely to happen this week as he hasn't narrowed down his pick amid pressure to name a black woman. But now that's been moved back by two weeks, The Washington Post reported, amid worries from Biden supporters that the process has become 'messier than it should be,' pitting women - and especially black women - against one another.
