Washington — Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg said she is receiving chemotherapy for a recurrence of cancer, but has no plans to retire from the Supreme Court.
The 87-year-old Ginsburg said her treatment so far has succeeded in reducing lesions on her liver and that she will continue chemotherapy sessions every two weeks.
She spent time in the hospital this week for a possible infection.

She's going to go out in a box.
Shouldn't be real long.

That would explain the infections. Chemo destroys your immune system.
Having gone thru chemo, I cant imagine what its like for a frail 87 year old. Going thru it was hard enough at age 54.

She's toast and she knows it. Liver cancer out of remission moves like wild fire, and at her advanced age I suspect her oncologist told her to get her affairs in order quickly.
She s not going to retire because there won't be any time to enjoy it.
Her statement reveals her hand - she's terminal and very soon. Probably by the end of August.

Politics aside, she’s pretty strong to withstand all the chemo all these years, I admire her for that. All her decisions haven’t been against Trump. I’m conservative, and if Judge Scalia considered her a friend she’s more multi-faceted than many left leaning judges.

I don't think it matters if she retires now, or after the Election. Obviously, Trump wouldn't have time to get someone nominated and confirmed before the election. After, well, that's another story!

Wasn't it pancreatic cancer she had? Has it spread to her liver? My SIL was diagnosed in December with that horrible disease and she died in May. Lived 5months. You have to wonder why some people can survive so long, that's what Alex Trebeck also has and he's been doing great.

She won't retire. The Good Lord will do that for her. I don't see why there isn't enough time to whisk Amy Barrett in. All it takes is a nomination and approval by 50 Senators.

If Ruthie were to keel over this afternoon, you can bet your last dollar that Senators Romney and Murkowski and Collins would do everything in their power to prevent a Trump appointment making it onto the Court prior to the election. And you can probably throw Lamar Alexander into that RINO cohort.

Some longer articles about her recent diagnosis, such as in Politico, mention she had a liver cancer diagnosis back in February. They actually chide her a bit for only grudgingly admitting to the illness and withholding information. Libs would have loved a Supreme Court fight to rile up their base during the primaries.

She knows she doesn't have long but has decided to try an influence an election.
Wonder if it will actually help turn-out Republicans in the hopes of "flipping" her seat.
And, it will be a great opportunity to educate people in NY, CA, IL, MA, and other states that either had legal abortion prior to Roe (NY being one), or would have it still legal should Roe be overturned.
Don't be fooled, abortion would likely be legal in nearly every State, some having a few more restrictions than others, but doubt any would make it illegal. Nothing would prevent someone from going to a State to have one that didn't meet their particular State restrictions, if they so choose. Heck, people could ensure there's a fund available to help people with the travel, if they'd desire.
Just make sure people realize it's not going to be illegal, and it's likely to alter many people's vote choices when they realize they don't need to vote Democrat to uphold Roe.

From a doctors article I read when she was in the hospital about 6 months ago getting the stent put in; Doc said she would have about 6 months to live based on his experience.
Things are going to get a lot uglier than they are now.

I hope she stays alive and stays on the Court through the election. I don't want her to be a campaign issue for the Democrats. I've noticed the Democrats are much less focused on the Court in their campaign issues than the Republicans are. Don't wake up the sleeping dog.

2nd post apologies...first, let me pat myself on the back for catching the pun, then, I would note Ruthie has long been on record saying that Roe v. Wade should never have been decided by the US Supreme Court, that it should have been left up to the states. and most states would allow abortions, I believe, perhaps with limitations. and the baby killers at Planned Parenthood would not have to constantly argue for 'no limitations.'
Finally, I will always remember Ruthie during the oral arguments in Bush v. Gore, when she said, 'I just don't see a federal issue here.'
Finally, finally, Ruthie's replacement may have already joined the Court, in the person of Chief Judas John Roberts.

#22, Ginsberg had colon cancer back in the early 90s. Then if my memory is right, she had liver cancer, then pancreatic cancer, then a pancreatic cancer flare-up, pneumonia, now this. I think i jumbled a lot of her medical history.
Most of us have dealt with cancer, loved ones and friends, and our own. Hard to figure her longevity. Her types of cancer would fell most people. But I've been thinking and thinking, and I'm thinking that all those chemo and treatments may have --bear with me-- may have ... embalmed her. She's a walking, talking, judging embalmment. Alive, but embalmed. Think about it!

Now now oh ye faint of heart, this isn't a 50 year old dying. She is 87. That is a ripe old age, far longer than she probably would have had if she were anything other than a Supreme with the most Cadillac of the world's health care at her beck and call. If you aren't ready to meet your maker by 87, you have certainly put off too much for far too long. As it stands, I would not want to be her explaining to the Most High God her rulings on a great many things come the Fearful Day of Judgment.
