The NHL’s Chicago Blackhawks said on Tuesday they will not change their name or logo despite growing pressure on U.S. sports teams with Native American names and symbols to do so amid a push to eliminate racially insensitive material.
The team said in a statement to the Chicago Sun-Times that the name celebrated the life of Black Hawk of Illinois’ Sac & Fox Nation, and that it would work to further raise awareness about Native American culture. The announcement comes after the NFL’s Washington Redskins and MLB’s Cleveland Indians said last week they would consider changing their names.
The name and logo symbolized an “important and historic person

They should change their name to the Chicago NoCheckHawks, or the SoftHawks since they're the most physically contact adverse team in the league.

Black Hawks is perfect. Just put a space between the two words.
It commemorates the aggressive citizens of the south side of Chicago.

Eventually they will get around to Blackbeard the Pirate and Johnny Depp's Black Swan although the Left has too close an affinity to Pirates.

The Groveling Hawks has a nice ring to it. Like Cleveland Grovelers and Washington Grovelers they could all incorporate the word grovel with their City and no one would be offended. Can't use the word black, red and you can't use the offensive word 'white' so where does one go for a sports team name and logo?

Washington's NFL franchise could rename itself the "Washington Warrens"!

Maybe someone should ask the Illinois Sac and Fox Nation if they want the Chicago NHL hockey team to continue to honor their past tribal member Blackhawk by keeping the Blackhawks the name of their team? If not they could cede that privilege to say South Chicago and rename the team after one of the community heroes there, maybe renaming and calling the team something like the Barack Obamas?

Well they might change their name to the devoid of meaning Bullet Proofs - it is Chicago after all. They could embrace the heavy leaden sky aspect of Chicago and call themselves the Assailables - Its not a word with a valid meaning, but imagine the nickname or short name that could be put to use.

The team was originally named the “Black Hawks” later changed to Blackhawks. They should not change their name like the other pro teams are doing or considering. I’ve heard enough about this business of feeling unsafe and unwelcome from these whining snowflakes. Besides, the Blackhawks have the best looking jersey in all of sports.

How novel!
Sharing some Indian culture videos at the games would be a nice touch.
Set up a kiosk for items made by this tribe.

While I am not a Blackhawks fan, I prefer Colorado, I respect the team for telling the snowflakes to jump off the short pier into Lake WeDon'tCare.

I hope they don't cave the way administrators at the UofI did when they "retired" Chief Illiniwek. And, the Blackhawks do have the best jersey of any team in any sport.

Indiana PA was a county established in PA after Pontiac's Rebellion failed. There is a college there that started as a normal school for training teachers. Since then it became the largest PA state college and is now called Indiana University of Pennsylvania. Since the founding the mascot was an Indian. Then in 1991 they dropped the Indian and used a black bear as the mascot named Cherokee. Then the bear was replaced by a Crimson Hawk. Most of this was driven by sanctions by the NCAA in 2006 for continuing to use Indians when talking about the sports team players.
Considering when the town, county and college were founded Indiana, PA is really one of the first to reference Indians in it's official description. Now it is only a matter of time till every town, river, mountain range or geographical area with any connection to an Indian will have to 'update' it's name. Wait till they realize Indian was a mistake by a European who thought he was in the country of India.
A final point about Indiana, PA. It had the name FIRST, before the state of Indiana. The geniuses who stole the name of the first new territory west of Harrisburg, were, you guessed it, US congress. The politicians were just as stupid in the 1800s as today. Their combined brainpower could not come up with a new name, like the state of Crimson or the state of Hawk. Ohio, another Indian name was already taken.
