Texas Gov. Greg Abbott (R) has issued an order making it mandatory for all Texans to wear a face covering of some kind while out in public as the state faces a surge in coronavirus cases. The governor's office said the order applied to all counties in Texas with 20 or more confirmed cases of COVID-19, saying the move was necessary with other efforts to curb the spread of the disease. "Due to recent substantial increases in COVID-19 positive cases, and increases in the COVID-19 positivity rate and hospitalizations resulting from COVID-19, further measures are needed to achieve the least restrictive means for reducing the growing spread of COVID-19

In AZ I see people riding their bike, alone, wearing a mask. What do you suppose they think they are doing???

Either these new case numbers are a lie, or masks don't work. Which is it?? 10k new cases in Florida in one DAY? You expect me to believe the state health care system could even process that many?

Every day I hear more evidence that masks are useless with this, but every day "leaders" mandate more of them.

I'm sorry, but as long as the thug BLM protestors and rioters are allowed to continue wreaking havoc with full impunity -- all while practicing absolutely zero, zilch, nada, safety protocols to prevent the spread of the Coronavirus, he can shove his mask directive!!!
Up until this, I really had nothing but the utmost of respect for Gov. Abbott. Now I will actively support and work for any conservative Republican that runs against him in the next election!!!!

A couple of things.....
A mask does not protect the user from small airborne contaminants but seems extremely effective at virtual signaling.
Masks do nothing except:
1. Put your health risk for various reasons, one being dangerous low oxygen levels.
2. Prove that you are being subservient to the state so that they can continue to strip you of you liberties.
And now the CDC admitted that their test may also be picking up a coronavirus variate of the Common Cold.
Connect the dots.

Nothing in Article 4 of the Texas Constitution gives him the power to force me to wear a mask. His job is to execute the laws, not to be the state nanny!
**** him and the horse he rode in on!

When the really sticky situations hit, we find out what kind of leadership we have and what they are made of. I am not liking this! I realize Texas has a huge population compared to say, South Dakota or Arkansas, but Abbott seems to be leading by fear not confidence.

Really, this in Texas ??? Where I live ??? I go to my local grocery store almost daily. Their little signs tell me that to come in there I have to wear a mask. So I do, on my elbow because the law does not say where to wear the mask. My local grocer is private property so if they don't want to sell me food I will go to their competition and let their staff put my handled stuff back on the shelf. .PS Their employees (at least half) are wearing their masks under their nose. And it doesn't matter because (they say don't touch your face) because you can contract the VIRUS through your eyes.
Frankly I will choose to protect my elbows.

Governors are not kings. I agree with #1. This is not going to sit well.
The damned gov in KS did the same thing, kicks in tomorrow. Went and picked up some food items at our
grocery, asked what they were going to do. The cashier said somebody will be at the door, have to have a mask to enter. I said, "You will lose my business, sorry. I will not comply."

I will never vote for Greg Abbott for anything. I will vote for the Democrat, rather than him, as the result is the same anyway. I can't breathe in the masks. I will not go into the stores, just order groceries online. As for going out, I will stay home. I suppose our Texas Legislature does nothing, as nothing is ever seen, and the Governor seems to rule by decree. Republicans disappoint. They certainly have forgotten the principles about small government, individual liberty and property rights.

This is hilarious. Look at a map of the rise in COVID cases. It’s herd immunity happening right before our very eyes. Masks won’t stop it. Social distancing won’t stop it. Lockdowns won’t stop it. This is life on Planet Earth, and it’s a beautiful thing to behold. We are functioning perfectly, despite the best efforts of a man-made virus and cowardly, ignorant politicians and bureaucrats. Notice the numbers that are never reported among the breathless, fear-mongering body counts: deaths and serious illnesses. Do you know why? Because the overwhelming majority of these cases are asymptotic. Very, very few are sick. The virus is running out of steam. That’s a good thing, and yet, the majority of the population is convinced that the end of the world is nigh.

#20, the church I attend mandates masks while in the building. They do have live-stream every week, and actually push that for most people.
It is far more important to attend church to me than it is to fight this one, so I do it. But it really makes me sad. But that is the only place I give in to that requirement.

P.S. If I do happen to go into a place that requires me to wear the damn thing, I think I'll rig one that I can wear on my butt . . . . or make it into a G-string (to wear over my pants)!

Has Texas ordered any closures yet? Here in Florida another round of closures have started, but its not as severe as the first.
The Republicans aren't as bad as the Democrats, but definitely leave much to be desired. They are demlite all over again. Nobody is offering a real alternative.
In one respect the lockdown isn't over. Rather it has been relaxed, and business has been permitted to reopen. Everything can be shutdown again at any given time.
Its an election year. We haven't seen the last of the CV19 feardemic.

The day Abbott went to phase one of reopening and said we must wear a mask at a state park I knew the jig was up on this guy. He's as timid as they come and IMO before the camera GW was head and shoulders above this guy. I know several of my son's generation will not vote for Abbott now. This is a common tac in Texas politics for both dems and pubs. Come out as pro-2d Amendment then screw with the electorate on other issues thinking everyone will be happy with their guns. Abbott has endorsed the RINO candidate in our primary coming up in this district as has the education establishment. Think about that for a minute. I think the conservative will win. Also agree with others. Our current state senator and rep have said absolutely zero about this situation. They all need to go.

There may never be a vaccine. Herd immunity should be the best (only) alternative. Lockdowns only postpone the inevitable, unless, of course, you want this to go on forever, like the Democrats do.

In my mother's nursing home an employee tested positive for Covid. Their policy is to test all residents in that employee's unit. They came up with 11 residents who tested positive. Their policy is then to have an independent group test the positive residents again. I asked the nursing home contact if the initial 11 positives are turned in to the health department. They are. I asked if the second round shows 11 positives again, are these turned into the health department. They are. That's 22 positives for 11 residents. I asked if the second tests come back negative, are those turned in so that the initial positives are removed. They don't remove the initial positives. Interesting huh? By the way, all 11 residents tested negative on the second test.

Look I'm a Ronald Reagan Republican, I don't think there should be a law to wear a mask.
I always wear a mask it just polite and common courtesy. I wear a mask to protect you should I be asymptomatic, it would be altruistic to do the same,
