Reopening Is Not a Failure

The coronavirus hasn’t gone away.
As the Northeast, the epicenter of the pandemic in the U.S. for months, has seen steep, persistent declines in confirmed cases, other parts of the country have spiked. A month or so ago, most of the increased cases were a function of increased testing. Now, states like Florida, Texas, and Arizona have seen worrying increases in their positivity rates — the percentage of tests that are positive — in a sign of accelerating community spread.
The media’s tone about this trend is, of course, apocalyptic, with many commentators portraying the Republican governors of these states as callous extremists hell-bent on reopening, come what may.

The real states that are doing great with reopening are republican states. The democrat states are sinking because they want the economy to tank so President Trump looks bad. It's just part of their plan.

Considering the whole thing was an intentional overreaction to a nasty flu bug intended to wreck the economy and reduce the president's chances of re-election, I'd say it succeeded quite well. Reopening doesn't matter now. The damage is done.

Total cases mean nothing. I look at deaths and hospitalizations. The press enjoys the country being under lock and key because it infuriates many. That makes news. The government likes it. That makes power over the people. Apparently the process of terrifying Americans has been successful. The majority of Americans are afraid to come out of their shells.

We have all heard that increased testing results in increased cases.
I read a very disturbing report from a nursing home worker in Maryland.
They had zero residents with symptoms until they were forced by Governor Hogan to do nasal tests.
Within days residents were severely sick and dying. She knew of another nursing home that had the exact same experience!
Do not submit to the nasal testing!

Judging by the numbers of New York and Jersey license plates on the highways and around my community, New Yorkers fled their own city and spread their virus to many summer homes, beaches and vacation spots. One can no longer look at a particular location and attribute COVID-19 numbers to the actual inhabitants of that location. I live about five hours away from that hellhole and there are homes here with three or four New York cars parked in driveways.

All of the shutdowns and problems caused by the Corona Virus were alleged to be put in place to slow the spread.
Fine> It was spread.------now it has to run it's course.
It's time for America to get back to work ,and restore the economy we had before this CRAP started.

Exactly right on #1. I hated listening to Governor Abbott so apologetic before the media. He made the right decisions to open up the state. Texas is a huge state with big cities with millions of people! It is a very tough call balancing public health and the economy. This is a virus - not something man is in total control of and I am tired of media bullying.

#5, makes you wonder if they used the same nasal swab on all the patients and started with one that they knew was sick.

I'm wondering if all the New York and New Jersey traffic I've seen heading south over the last three months has something to do with the increase in cases in Florida and other southern states. There is an incubation period between those that have the virus, and passing it on to those that don't. Some days in my 15 mile commute down I-95, I'll see at least a couple of dozen cars heading south from New York and Jersey loaded with gear.

If the death rate is low, how is "reopening" any different than any other year when some people get the flu and get over it? For 99.7% or more of us, this is just a flu. I am in my late 60s, so I make some moderate efforts to not get it, cleaning hands with alcohol spray after shopping is about it for me and my wife. No masks, and we visit with those friends who are not hiding out. Shop as needed, no changes there.

#9 I think the more likely scenario is intentionally contaminated test kits.
As you recall, Trump did not want to use test kits from China. He wanted U.S. produced kits.
Perhaps he got wind of the plans to get the panic ramped up.
Then there was the president of Tanzania who sent in several non-human test kits with human names on them. The covid test on a goat, a pawpaw fruit came back positive! So either covid was intentionally placed in the test kit, or the testing labs are corrupt.

Of course riots and protests couldn't have had anything to do with the increases, right? How about asking those testing positive now if they were in a protest 2-3 weeks ago?

Just because they are positive doesn’t mean anything. Most aren’t sick.
