A dozen states have seen record highs in new coronavirus cases, blares the news media, accompanied by dire warnings of a “second wave” of the disease because those awful Republican states reopened too soon. Once again, however, the mainstream press is needlessly scaring the public by hiding the relevant context.
One news outlet put it this way: “The U.S. reported more than 33,000 new coronavirus cases on Saturday – the highest total since May 1 – while the surge of infections in several states is outpacing growth in coronavirus testing.”
White House economic adviser Larry Kudlow tried to tamp down the panic

The number of cases is whatever they say/want. The number of deaths is whatever they say/want.

Have they tested the rioters in these big cities? I would be willing to bet that many of them would test positive. They don't all wear masks. I saw Chuckie Shummer talking to a group of people the other day without a mask on. Why did'nt anyone say anything about that! I am so tired of this. The way it has been handled by the MSM makes it sound like fake news again. Kind of like "the boy who called wolf".

How many cases are deadly is the real question.

Yes, the media is so irresponsible in reporting this without also reporting the falling number of deaths. It has been known for over 100 years that infectious disease progression follows a bell curve and that the number of deaths is what indicates where things stand on the curve. Death and the date of death are certain so it is the only accurate metric.

How many times - when Trump was NOT President - did the media keep incessantly track of the number of people with colds...??...the flu...??...pneumonia...??...etc ...
...NOW....OMG ...so people may/may not have a disease with no real symptoms !!...BFD

Something my daughter sent me yesterday is mind boggling. Google any three digit number and the words...'new cases' and see what comes up. It's pretty strange. Can anyone here explain it?

Yep. More testing will increase the numbers. It doesn't mean there are more cases, it's just that they are identified.

1. Virus is a way of life on earth. There is no way tp stop it.
2. No one in the US during the 'first' wave' needed hospitalization, intubation or a respirator and did not get it.
3. People under 65 and with no underlying conditions were not affected, will be affected even less this time around. They and their business should be left alone.

If the Kung Flu was so deadly all the homeless people should have been wiped out in the first month that it became known. It didn't happen. It's a bogus summer cold to harm the Trump Presidency and our economy.

#1, what you say. I am no techy, but if you go to the google search bar, type in any three numbers, followed by the words “new cases” ... see what pops up! Why is that?

Nobody under the age of 80 has died from Wuhan flu in my county of 600,000 people in about a month. Not one person.
In this whole pandemic, no deaths under age 40 in my county, from 40-79, a total of 16, and those numbers have been unchanged for about a month. ALL new Wuhan flu deaths are in the 80+ age group, which is 80% of the total at 64 deaths.
We really need to be focusing on protecting our very oldest people from this, and let everyone else go about their business without being bothered. Clearly, getting this flu isn't a big problem for the overwhelming majority of us.

Wearing a cloth mask is like putting up a chain link fence to keep out mosquitoes. The holes in the mask are far, far larger then the virus or droplets in the air.

FTA: At the other end of the spectrum, those under age 35 comprise 45% of the population but account for a tiny 0.8% of COVID-19 deaths.
This stat from the CDC should be the daily headline on all websites, not the number of newly tested/diagnosed.

We've been had. It's that simple. Americans failed the test. They crawled behind their doors, wore masks and bought the government's propaganda. Many were so scared they fought/fight re-opening of anything anywhere. $6 TRILLION went out of an already empty treasury in addition to the usual overspending. This time the people got their beaks wet, not just big biz. Many apparently like that. There's another bill pending, more cash for everyone awaits, and an election coming. And so is a "second wave" of this hoax. Pay attention. The groundwork is being done right now. The propaganda continues unabated. The only question is when they start counting everything as COVID-caused and shout "Told you so!" as they clamp down even harder this time. But it's "settled science"...needed billions more in grants for a vaccine.

From the CDC website: Masks are no substitute for social distancing.
So why wear them? Because the governor says so? Ridiculous.

Given how many of the early deaths were caused by forcing nursing homes in certain states to accept COVID patients when they couldn't care for them, it's not surprising that the initial death count was so high. Add to that the number of non-COVID deaths counted as COVID deaths and you have an incredibly easy way to manipulate numbers to look as scary as you want to make them (and then report the fuzzy math with no context).
IMO, the most important numbers are the ratios. New real_COVID_deaths/population is extremely low. New positive_COVID/tests is also still pretty low. The numbers in the news are for propaganda.

Illinois had over 4,000 new cases reported on a day in mid-May. But daily deaths continued to decline and 4 weeks later were about half of what they were. If 4,000 were a true surge, deaths would have surged, too, but they did not. That indicates that the apparent surge was the new discovery of already existing cases, not 4,000 new infections. The reason? Testing.

Imagine how much lower the counts would be if not for the deadly bungling of governors Wolf and Cuomo.
Regardless, the country has far greater problems now than the Bat Flu.

Concerning the strange results of Internet search engines, the big corporations pay them to use algorithms designed to promote biased advertising, prioritizing and propaganda so it's not just raw search results that you are seeing. Like Forrest Gump's box of chocolates, you never know what you're gonna get.
For instance, I was looking up the specifications of the F-22 Raptor, our most advanced classified stealth jet fighter, just last week and I was offered F-22s for sale on Amazon and other sites. I knew the Black Market was powerful, but wow, I could have a good time with one of those babies.

One of the tactics being used to increase the count is, a backlog of positive cases is just now being reported as if they are new.

#22, I am sure you are aware that there are a lot of responses that just reflect back WHATEVER you put in your search and then put "for sale on Amazon". Lots of other examples of this "take whatever they put in and reflect it back" programming.

I really question the testing. FL suddenly has thousands that are positive, but have no symptoms. Will the numbers be mind boggling the closer we get to the election?

Those you would love to see gone seem completely immune from the virus. Now they are testing thousands more, saying we have a new outbreak. We don't have more cases, but the Democrats want to shut the economy down, and they are, and with the Republicans supporting it. The Republicans are useless, the Republican judges are useless. We are getting nothing.
