Robert E. Lee, who led the Army of Northern Virginia through the Civil War, opposed the construction of monuments commemorating the vanquished Confederacy.
Within the past week, NASCAR announced a ban on the Confederate flag, Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi renewed calls to have Confederate statues removed from the Capitol, New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio insisted anything named after Lee in his city "has to go," and thousands of protesters across the country tore down Confederate monuments. After the Civil War, Lee repeatedly voiced his objection to statues or monuments that honor the Confederacy.
Lee's underlying rationale behind opposing the monuments
This is all insanity!

It's not about who opposes monuments, though, is it? A group of people have taken it upon themselves to tear down and deface monuments and statutes they don't like. And, a group of people have suddenly become offended by monuments and certain people such that businesses, governments, and others are making policy changes based on feelings that have arisen from group think, the spread of false information, ignorance, and hidden agendas on the part of the instigators. The rest of US watch these people act out, illegally mind you, and we're supposed to support and applaud what they're doing because they have a right to protest, and because those we elected don't have the spine to stop them. But, let one of us violate stay home imposed rules/edicts, not even laws, and those same elected officials want to put us in jail or take us to court to make us follow their rules, not laws. Come on, man.

Interesting and sad. There is a main street in Bismarck, North Dakota and another in Brandon, Manitoba named for Thomas Rosser, to whom Lee’s short letter was addressed. Maybe I shouldn’t have mentioned that, because the crazies may be alerted and may start blocking traffic and tearing down street markers in both cities now.

My fondest hope for NASCAR is that they go broke.

Nasty Pelosi's dad, the Demtard payor of Baltimore, erected a statue to Robert E. Lee in 1948. Has Nasty forgotten that? Will she denounce her father?

And yet, there is a statue of Lenin in the Fremont area of Seattle that is untouched to my knowledge.

I can appreciate Robert E. Lee's thoughts about statues, etc. I mean, really, the Confederacy lost. But what really has ruined race relations in this country, besides the election (twice^%$#) of Barack Obama is all the hyphenation. African-America, etc.

When Lee said this, the war was just over and was rightly concerned that many would continue an endless guerrilla type war against the North. Most of the monuments were erected after 1900 when the reconstruction wounds had healed. The naming of bases for Southern generals was done in a spirit of unification. The teasing down of these statues, etc is done in a spirit of revenge. Most southerners take pride in the fact that the South put up a valiant fight against overwhelming odds. They don’t apologize, grovel or ask forgiveness and this drives the left and the Marxist media crazy.

The Confederates were in revolution against a central government that assumed too much power over the various states, the same way as the Founders broke free from Britain. The Confederates lost, so we revile their names. The Marxists will soon turn their venom against the Founders, as they promised years ago; the mass hysteria against the South merely paves the way.

New York, the State and the City, were named in honor of the Duke of York, who held the Exclusive License to import and sell slaves in the American colonies.
In other words, New York is named after the Biggest Slave Trader of them All.
OK New Yawk!
When are you going to change YOUR name?!

It was one of the bloodiest wars ever waged and for sure within these borders. The families on both sides deserved the right to preserve the memory of their war dead. I love Gen. Robert E. Lee, but on this one he was wrong.
Welfare is the ugliest monument to slavery standing today. Tear it down! And while you're at it, crush the black muslims who call as "brothers" the very ones who sold them to the ship British Captains in Africa for return voyages to the Colonies.

All of it makes me so sad. Such disrespect for history and our ancestors. Statues are statues and don't harm anyone. Take down MLK's too. He offends me.
One woman took prayer out of school. Now the country stands by while history is destroyed.
