As these peaceful protests move through the country, more and more people are joining in. If you’re attending a protest for the first time, there are a few things you can bring that can help keep you safe. This list comes from multiple sources of journalists, reporting from the front lines of the protests. From those who have been there, these are a few items to keep on your person as you march in the streets.

If beaches, parks, children's soccer, summer concerts, major league sports were all up and running these protests would have fizzled out after a day or two and never would have made it to the suburbs.

They didn't mention Kevlar helmets, body armor, tactical vest to carry more ammo, AR-15 to protect yourself with a Sig P226 as backup, baton, mace, handcuffs, knee and elbow guards, heavy weight pants and shirt, small fire extingusher...

In the late 60s thru early 70s the crazy leftists were having antiwar demonstrations at my university, some with minor attempts at vandalism. My roommate and I were curious, so we stayed at least 100 yards, usually 200 yards, away from the protesters, and just watched. We wanted to make sure we were safe, and also that our presence in the area did not add to the apparent numbers of these leftist pukes.
Personally, there is no way I would go to one of these events. I don't believe in ANY of what they are doing.
IMO, Floyd most likely died from an overdose of illegal drugs, and topped it off with his panicked fighting with the cops. The huge adrenaline rush from that fighting probably kicking his enlarged and artery-obstructed heart over the edge. The autopsy said he had a heart attack, and reported no indication of even the slightest injury to his airway and associated structures on the front of his neck, no indication of strangulation. I don't think that there is any evidence now in public that shows anything but a drug overdose induced heart attack. Opiod overdoses kill you be depressing respiration ...... you can't breathe, and you die. Add in a heart attack in the middle of that, and it is worse.
But, we will need to wait for the trial to get all the evidence. There are apparently four body cam videos and at least one other video that are currently being suppressed. That likely indicates that they do not support Ben Crump's fake news narrative. Ben Crump is a huge liar, and every time he gets involved in a case, the truth is the first victim.
Some reports are that one video showed Floyd, reportedly calm and standing, before he began fighting, and saying "I can't breathe". There was reportedly zero external impact on his airway or chest at that point. This fits with a fentanyl overdose depressing respiration. But, we are not now able to view that video, it has been suppressed, we only have reports from those who saw it the few times it was publicly aired.
I hope this all comes out in court as it should. Ben Crump hired a liar to purjure herself in the Zimmerman trial, I would put absolutely nothing past him on this stuff. He will do ANYTHING legal or illegal to make his racist, fake cases. People are being played on this. The media is amplifying Ben Crump's lies just like they amplified the "Russian connection" in the illegal, corrupt Trump investigations. Same sort of thing.

The protests and riots that "more and more people are joining in" are a prime example of the illusions that can be created from fake narrative. The vast majority of people in this country are NOT joining in with these deluded fools who are marching, chanting, and providing cover for others who are looting and burning. Yes, there may be several thousand in different locations, waving their fists in anger at some vague idea that Racism reigns supreme in our country. But never forget there are hundreds of millions of us, hundreds of millions, watching in horror and thinking, "What in the hell are they talking about? This is insane!" It reminds me of stories about how a few hundred Spaniards would take over entire countries in the New World because of the shackles on the minds of the natives. We can stop this in a flash if we have a mind to. We need Trump to step up and lead us to end this farce.

You want personal safety? Steer clear of angry radicals in 'protest' mobs.

I was in Kiev during their Orange Revolution. We were always on alert for growing mobs. One route we normally walked, for exercise, took us past the President's offices and residence, the Duma (basically their Congress) building and more, pretty much their "Pennsylvania Avenue" and Mall. There is a park adjacent to the Presiden't residence, and it was continuously filled with small tents for protesters to live in, and larger ones for organizers, and organizing tents on the Maidan (Independence Square).
One day, we approached the President's residence, across a city street, and there was a rapidly growing crowd at the gates of the Presidential residence. We turned a corner, walked very quickly directly away (don't attract attention by running away from potential violence) for two blocks and then turned back in our original direction, again walking rapidly for several more blocks. The mob made the news, broke down the entrance gates, broke some windows, tear gas, general mayhem. I was VERY glad to not be there.
General rule, stay away from demonstrations and/or mobs, and triple that in a foreign country.

I think I would keep a 'quarter-mile eye' with me..... IF I saw any crowd or disturbance, I would keep a quarter-mile away.
I DO remember being at George Washington University (1980?) when some of the Iranian students were demonstrating against the Shah...... There were some of us engineering students in an old townhouse that the University had set aside for the engineering students as sort of a hang-out where we could gather, chat, and study. One day that was a bunch of noise and chanting..... we looked out, and there was a bunch of Middle Easterners chanting against the Shah, another bunch of them chanting for the Shah, and a line of police separating the two. I think there were more police than demonstrators. Nothing happened other than a bunch of chanting, and that was mostly when the TV cameras were on them.

My conservative estimate of the cost of this list is $150.00. I thought the protesters were po' folks just wanting a chance.
