What a difference a day makes

Original Article

Saturday was a great day. With friends and family we celebrated my wife’s birthday. it was a delight to be amongst loved ones after 10 weeks of isolation. On Sunday, my wife and I were standing in line at a local gun shop to buy our first gun. What a difference a day makes. I never have been anti-gun. Dad owned a British Enfield, my brother and I tagged along when he went shooting. I had also kept a Browning Superposed for many years for a friend who lost his way. It was a pleasure to return his father’s gun to him. I just was never motivated to buy one.

Dennis, you need to go to the range this weekend to learn how to shoot the bloody thing and to begin to develop the muscle memory that will save your life when chaos invades your brain. Then you need to handle the thing as much as possible, dry fire and practice retrieving it from where ever you intend it to be. By the way, hope you have that old .303 Enfield, I'd love to teach you the mad minute. What a fine battle rifle.

So now we have 2 former anti-gunners in possession of a tool they don't know how to use. They're probably a bigger threat to the people around them than the protesters.

In many instances the mere presence of a firearm is sufficient to diffuse a threatening situation. Much better to have a firearm and not need it--whether you know how to use it well or not--than to not have one and need it. Good for you and your wife. #1 had a good suggestion, get a dry firing system, iTarget Pro is pretty cheap and easy to use.

Lund, you and your wife better learn how to store securely and use your new weapon. Do you know how to field strip your weapon. Do you know what ammo to buy. Do you know how to clean your weapon. Where do you plan to store your ammo. Did you consider concealed carry. Have you attended a pistol safety class yet. Do you know your local gun laws. Do you have a lawyer identified who will defend you, if necessary, after you should kill an attacker. Have you identified a shooting range where you must regularly go and practice your shooting skills. Are you and your wife mentally prepared to kill an attacker. Have you practiced waking up suddenly at 2am and can have your weapon in hand with a bullet in the chamber within 10 seconds. Lots to do, bro. Good luck.

Nice choice on the Glock 19. Three pieces of advice, Dennis. Buy your weapons well before you need them, this is far from over and your wife should have one too. Practice shooting and practice reloading them in the dark. Buy more ammo, two boxes will not get you through the first hour.

The author buys the story....says it as a fact "the Floyd death was an inexcusable murder". This is wrong to decide at this point. Everyone deserves a presumption of innocence. Sort this out in court, don't pre-judge. We have way too much of a tendency to take a snippet of video and imagine that that makes us an "eyewitness" and be convinced. But often the snippet leaves out extremely important information, accidentally or often, on purpose. Can you tell from the video that Floyd is having a heart attack, and has severely disease damaged lungs and his blood is teeming with illegal drugs? That Floyd was 'murdered' is NOT a fact. The video is one, incomplete, scrap of evidence. Baltimore. Ferguson. Zimmerman/Martin. We were told for months by the national media that ALL of these were "murders of innocent black men"......but they WEREN'T that at all, once the facts were investigated and the truth came out in a court of law. Let's wait for the truth to come out in court. It may well show that the cops did something wrong, the video doesn't look good. It may show that Floyd died of a heart attack with severely damage lungs from Wuhan flu, and fentanyl and meth overwhelming his already damaged heart and that the police didn't cause his death. We don't yet know, we haven't had our court case.

It seems impossible to believe, but the last person to receive a Civil War pension has recently died. Irene Triplett, who had received $73.13 per month since 1938, passed away on May 31 at the age of 90. Her father, Mose Triplett, earned the pension after defecting from the Confederate Army in 1864 and joining the Union forces. When he died at age 92, his daughter Irene inherited the pension. Imagine that. A pension that began 155 years ago paid out by the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs finally stopped in 2020. Mose Triplett married very late in life, to a woman 50 years his junior. Irene was born in 1930.

Once you understand the larger objectives, everything becomes a sequence of predictable events. The term “community policing” has been used for several years by groups advocating for radical changes to law enforcement; however, behind the innocuous phrase is really a much more serious agenda. If each community can determine the enforcement of law, then essentially all communities can eliminate the underlying law itself. Remove local enforcement of law and the local community can independently assemble a social structure separate from all other binding contracts that frame a larger societal compact.
