After protests earlier in response to the death of George Floyd Monday in Minneapolis, riots are continuing in downtown Chicago Saturday night. Mayor Lori Lightfoot held a news conference at 8 p.m. A curfew has been implemented from 9 p.m. through 6 a.m. Sunday. Earlier Saturday, protesters walked onto Lake Shore Drive blocking traffic in both directions. Prior to that, protesters took aim at two CPD squad cars in front of Trump Tower. There are also reports of looting and graffiti.(Snip) CTA and Metra have announced service suspensions.

Comments:

Surprisingly they used the correct word to describe what is happening -- riots, not protests.

It's a good thing I am not in charge. The first time someone picked up a brick or a molotov cocktail aimed at the police I'd greenlight a rooftop sniper.

"Watch Live: Riots Underway!" What does it say about our society that this is a news promo? This is TK's home town. He just came in to give me the update on Los Angeles, my home town. What a rich heritage we both share. /s There are features emerging that remind us both of the Rodney King riot. The beating of Reginald Denny and other drivers was the first time mobs attacked vehicles and pulled occupants from them. It was the first time mobs stormed onto highways and freeways, disrupting traffic on major arteries and instilling fear in the general population. When the rioters moved up La Brea into Hollywood, it was the first time destruction came to upscale neighborhoods. All of these riots, in diverse cities and regions of our country, are following the R.K. pattern. Why only destroy their stores and communities when the really good stuff is in the tony neighborhoods and suburban satellites? Its time to share the misery and bring socialist utopia to everyone. The global commies have turned to burning the country down because their phony lockdown and attempt to crash the American economy was another failed Acme product. This is enemy action. To quote Andrew B., "War!" Thank God for President Trump.

Yup, looks like Soros and his Antifa goons think that their "moment" is finally at hand, so they're going all out to coordinate simultaneous riots all over the country. Big mistake. They really have miscalculated. They have no idea how many of us are ready to fight back and this time fight them to the finish. If this is the hot Civil War 2.0 they've been dreaming of, they're about to get it and they're not going to like it.

I have been watching the Fox News Channel on and off this evening. I have found that they have about the dumbest talking heads around, as they keep referring to the criminal rioters who have been looting and perpetrating mass arson as “demonstrators” and “protestors” apparently unable to differentiate between lawful demonstrators and protestors and the criminal rioters who have caused severe damage to the commercial infrastructure in inner city low income and minority group areas.

The media is claiming that the FBI has infiltrated groups to ascertain who's paying for the thugs and who's running them. They tell us this about jihadis too - that they're surveilling them. Seems to me the FBI is in league with all thugs since nothing ever happens to arrest any of them before they commit their crimes. They just let the free-for-all continue. How about going after Soros? That too hard?

From Twitter: "the city is working closely with the organizers of rallies and protests scheduled to take place within the area this afternoon to provide an alternative, optional route for marches to peacefully and safely return in Chicago."

As Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot called in the Illinois National Guard to prevent a second night of downtown violence and looting, the chaos spilled into some city neighborhoods and continued to overshadow the urgent message conveyed during peaceful protests over the death of George Floyd at the hands of Minneapolis police.(Snip) About 125 Guard members already reported for duty as of Sunday afternoon and an additional 250 were expected shortly. The soldiers and airmen have been given explicit orders not to interfere with protesters who are exercising their First Amendment rights, the governor said. “Their job is to provide a perimeter,” Pritzker said. “They’re not going to be on the front

Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz ordered all National Guard troops activated for the first time in the state’s history Saturday, vowing to put an end to the “wanton destruction” that he pinned on outside forces — from drug cartels to white supremacists. But President Trump seemed to point to leftist agitators and poor leadership for the unrest in Minnesota following the death of George Floyd. “It’s ANTIFA and the Radical Left. Don’t lay the blame on others!” Trump tweeted Saturday. Walz told reporters in a pre-dawn briefing: “The absolute chaos — this is not grieving, and this is not making a statement [about an injustice] that we fully acknowledge

The mayor tweeted “Regarding today’s large unpermitted gathering at Millennium Park: while we respect 1st amendment rights, this gathering posed an unacceptable health risk and was dispersed.
