The Department of Education has discovered at least $6 billion in unreported donations to American universities from adversarial foreign nations, Townhall reported on Friday.
The DoE revealed its updates in a May 19 letter to Congress and a subsequent briefing to several ranking House Republicans who are conducting an investigation into the foreign funding of U.S. educational institutions.
The investigation was spurred by increasing reports of Chinese funding at U.S. educational institutions, including the prevalence of Confucius institutes on U.S. campuses. Confucius institutes are Chinese-government funded centers which ostensibly promote Chinese language and culture, but which U.S. agencies have warned spread propaganda for China’s government.

Mr. Evans, I would like to see a list of these colleges and amount, so that I can send a protest letter to mine, if it is on that list.

That should change. We can afford to educate OUR children without money from China. That said, China should educate THEIR children and not send them to this country. Enough of that! Also, get rid of the Chinese Professors and Educators. We have enough of our own without importing from other countries.

The main reason China is a totalitarian communist country - - which has murdered nearly 100 million innocent human beings - - and tortured and enslaved a billion others - - is because American communists in the Roosevelt and Truman administrations betrayed the pro-Western, pro-freedom Nationalist Chinese government. The Nationalist remnants established Taiwan as a free, democratic nation. Just imagine if all of China were as free as Taiwan.
The savage butchery carried on by Mao and his acolytes is a direct result of American communist betrayal of human values. These current day commies are no better than those of the last generation. They are pure evil - - and they must be fought and defeated.

Higher education institutes in this country are on the edge of the abyss. Many people are now waking up to the fact the cost benefit factor of a college degree is on a down slope and that momentum is increasing. It is only a matter of time until the entire system implodes upon itself.
If you can't get a good paying job from that degree you just wasted six figures on why also waste four years of your life on it. Learn a trade and make a good living!

#3, I must respectfully disagree.
The best thing we can do is to allow Chinese students to experience freedom. in the long run, it may influence their home government.
(it does not always work, I readily admit. The head of the North Korean government was educated in Switzerland, and the freedom he experienced seems to not carry over into his homeland.
but then, the freedom experienced by Barack Obola didn't seem to take, either.)

Well, #6, it seems you just disputed your own answer. If China sends students here to "study", you can bet that they are going to do what their leaders tell them, mainly to gather any and all intelligence about us. They aren't concerned about anyone experiencing freedom, as the students are all hand-picked and vetted. Also, the student's families are still in China. Nothing would happen to them, right?

In the early 90's, I was finally finishing up the credits that would give me my Bachelor's degree, and I'd take whatever course that sounded interesting and was being offered on Tuesday night or whatever. I remember I took some course where I wrote a paper that I entitled, "Is China Still Communist?", and I answered my own question; effectively saying, of course they were.. Within the paper, for some reason, I wrote that a large portion of manufactured goods coming from China were inexpensive plastic toys.
What a difference a couple of decades makes! How did all that happen?

The universities have their own deep state issues.
Very expensive salaries guaranteed for life regardless of mental condition or work ethic is one of them (Biden needs to become a tenured professor).
Unethical research and theft of intellectual property is an issue of national security.
But the twisting of our youth to communist/socialist preference is the most damaging.
I no longer have any respect or awe for a Harvard education!!! It has become a strong negative in my view, and I won't ever vote for one of them again!

I worked 13 years for a large institution in the South. I came away with an analogy for college classes: like children raised in daycare having to find a place to stay until Mom and Dad get home from work, they have After Care. That is college for kids who are now out of high school and need a place to be expensively kept until some industry knocks on their door and begs them to come work for them.

Rich American celebrities go to jail for trying to get their dimwitted kids into college here but foreign governments have a ready means of spy placement. Then they add insult to injury by sending smarter kids.

My goodness, our colleges are packed with radicals but it is shameful that they are packed with communist sympathizers if not actual spies looking to get rich by selling out to our enemies. I am convinced that liberals hate this country and will do anything to sell it out. Making money doing it is just a perk of the job. Those that do, do. Those that can’t do, teach. Unfortunately, some of those that teach in our universities apparently have no problem selling us out.

Someone who would know was telling me about foreign students coming to a local well known university. Their tuition costs are covered, they are provided with housing and medical care. Commenter is right about the educational deep state.
