Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer (D) declared a state of emergency for Midland County on Tuesday night after two dams failed, flooding areas along the Tittabawassee River. The National Weather Service warned anyone near the engorged river to seek higher ground after "catastrophic dam failures" at the Edenville and Sanford dams, about 140 miles north of Detroit. Michigan officials said about 10,000 residents are being evacuated in Midland, Edenville, and Sanford. Midland, a town of 42,000, has a major Dow Chemical plant on the city's riverbank.

My husband was transferred there to Midland Dow Chemical in 1976. Midland was a nice clean place, no slums or bad looking properties. We had friends that lived on Lake Sandford. I feel sorry they are having to deal with flood waters.

hopefully on a brighter side of the problem it cleaned up the dow chemical complex. the solution to pollution is dilution. no more dioxin and skull and crossbones signs on the creek running through the complex.

A dam requires continuous maintenance by competent people. Dems always want to strip ALL infrastructure spending down to the bares bones, and then go a bit farther.....and the roads crumble, the bridges crumble, and the dams collapse. Not like this is a new script, this has been played out time and time again. Same kind of actors, same result - different faces, different names but leftists wreck everything they touch.

I did a bit of research. These dams were built for hydropower, and were not making much money lately, and the hydropower company, Boyce Hydro could no longer afford to upgrade the dams. Apparently Boyce had drawn down the water levels for safety, which angered those living on the lake shores. So a consortium of (apparently) 'stakeholders' was formed the Four Lakes Task Force. This group seems to be mostly folks who have homes on the shores of these lakes and who want the water levels up for recreational purposes, even though the former hydro company lowered the water due to dam safety issues. So, this Four Lakes Task Force bought all the lakes and dams, and apparently was running up the water levels again. And then it rained a bunch. Sounds like the Four Lakes Task Force is incompetent to operate these dams, and they ruptured after they took over and raised the water levels - it appears that their primary interest was higher water so that their docks would be 'normal'. If I lived downstream, I'd be thinking about suing the Four Lakes Task Force for the damage that they did to my home. Looks like Boyce was unable to keep up the dams properly, they weren't making enough power to cover the costs. One online source had Boyce's net income at $1.4 million, small potatoes if you have dams to maintain. I'm sure that more of this story will come out. Seems like Boyce drew down the lakes to keep this from happening, but who raised the levels again is unclear. http://www.four-lakes-taskforce-mi.com/frequently-asked-questions.html https://www.mlive.com/news/saginaw-bay-city/2020/05/troubled-dam-breaks-sends-floodwaters-hurtling-toward-midland.html

Dan Bongino has come up with a knock-your-socks-off theory about why Flynn’s December 29, 2016, telephone call with Russian Ambassador Sergei Kislyak didn’t need unmasking. He also offers a surprising twist on the charging papers against Flynn, something that may expose the DOJ's con on the court. A lot of people noticed something interesting in the newly released list showing Obama-era people unmasking Flynn communications: No one unmasked Flynn’s call with Kislyak. There were no unmaskings between December 28 and January 4. The next unmasking,

CNN, in their dogged and unending quest to overturn the 2016 presidential election and drive President Trump from office, is in full-on campaign mode. Just as in the last presidential election cycle, opinion polls are a campaign staple of the media and the Democrat party. Polls are not being used as they should, to reflect public opinion, but instead to shape opinion, a form of political propaganda. CNN commissioned a poll, the results of which were released last week, conducted by SSRS, “an independent research company.” A CNN poll doesn’t mean Brian Stelter and Jim Acosta, also known as dumb and dumber,

Democrats and their media scribes have spent more than three years glued to the narrative that President Donald Trump stole the 2016 election from Hillary Clinton by colluding with Russia to rig the outcome. But they don’t care about the legitimacy of elections. If they did, they wouldn’t be agitating for voting by mail this fall. “House Democrats have sought to drastically overhaul the American electoral system in light of the pandemic, arguing dramatic change is needed to allow Americans to vote safely,” Politico reported last week. It seems they have the public on their side. A recent POLITICO/Morning Consult

We can’t be the only ones who sense the glee with which the news about the body count, the Democrats’ wailing over the president’s handling of the crisis, and the “new normal” are delivered across our screens. Nor is it possible that no one else is noticing that the states that believe reopening is necessary to survival are being portrayed as communities of rubes who deserve to suffer the sting of mass death. In national polling, former vice president Joe Biden is the clear 2020 front-runner. He's up nearly 5 points in the RealClearPolitics polling average; he's up in Wisconsin, Pennsylvania, Florida and Arizona. That's because Biden campaigned as the anti-Bernie Sanders: a "return to normalcy" candidate rather than a transformational one. His entire pitch relied on his high name recognition, the general perception of his likability and his unthreatening demeanor. The coronavirus pandemic merely underscored this pitch. Biden hasn't waned in the national polling since the pandemic -- his lead has been utterly consistent.
