In 2020 America, we should probably have expected that the eagerly-awaited prospect of a return to economic activity after the nationwide coronavirus lockdown would be greeted not with cheers but with widespread strife. [Snip] It was probably inevitable that the initial “we’re all going to die” pandemic panic would decline as two realities set in. One, while the

Earth to Malcolm: Don't expect normal this year. They're ramping up the second wave, virus mutation, and death count increase stories as we speak.

It is because "Normal" is being redefined by the Dems, MSM, and anti-American globalists.

The new normal is the government shutting the economy down over and over again until the economy and morale improve. The left will try to shut it down for as long as possible to ensure the death tolls rise and CV case numbers grow, so as to improve their odds of Trump losing. The ends justify the means. Death management is high on their list. They don't want to flatten the curve. They just want to keep a good thing going at any cost and expense.

In order to try to influence the Nov elections the media is simultaneously trying to a) scare us into submission, b) bury Biden's sex scandal, c) blame Trump for everything while excusing Dems for their horrible responses, i.e. Cuomo panicking and sending covid patients to nursing homes, killing thousands of seniors in the process. Our media is our Enemy. They gave up serving us quite a long time ago.

I don’t read Malcolm, but the goal of the shutdown, social distancing, etc., was to flatten the curve of viral illnesses/deaths. To keep from the overcrowding that initially hit NYC hospitals and overwhelmed those facilities. It was not intended to eradicate the illnesses and deaths from the virus…. It’s pretty obvious that many forgot the initial purpose - if they understood “flatten the curve” at all.
We are an impatient lot. The minute we believe a crisis has passed, we are ready to throw all caution to the wind. We’ll see how that comes out. The last I read a week or so ago was that the cases of COVID-19 were growing in flyover states. We’ll see...

When dealing with libturds, democraps, fascists, regressives of any stripe EVERYTHING is a fight.
It's the old Tuscan saying, always looking for breasts on an ant.

We need to work on getting more accurate numbers, or people will stop paying attention the next time.
Far too many were screaming for X, Y and Z, only not to need any of the supplies they demanded they must have, and have immediately.
Now, there's another new statistic claiming 135,000 deaths by Aug 1. But, it's based on NOT doing anything, just returning to pre-pandemic.
Who thinks they won't do anything to mitigate their potential exposure?
We need a quick accounting of what was done, what we did, who needed what.
The only reason for the stay-at-home orders was to flatten the curve, but that was simply to ensure the hospital system didn't get overwhelmed, and over the last few weeks to ensure we could get all of the PPE supplies too.
It was not to stop the virus from infecting people. Heck, they already know a second, and possibly third wave is coming, but they did what they did so they'd be prepared.

#6. The more you test the more cases you will find. Most cases are asymptomatic. Study the ratio of positive and negative tests.

People want to be scared. They love to be scared. They go to scary movies, they ride scary rides at amusement parks, they do foolish things just for the adrenaline rush. It takes their minds off their boring lives for a while. This is just a big fat amusement park ride. The communists in government have seized on it for their own purposes and are running with it.
As a people I fear we will not soon recover from the damage done by the politicians.

This time it's different. In all prior recessions/depressions, people of any political persuasion pretty much agreed that they wanted a recovery. They might disagree on the best way to get there, but the goal was the same. This time, at least 50% of the political class and a significant share of the population actually want to prolong economic devastation. Getting Trump out of office is worth any cost to them. This makes me feel physically ill and not hopeful for the USA.

#1 was spot on, almost even prescient. As soon as we heard authorities announcing the relaxation of some of our shelter-in-place restrictions, the counter-volleys came like clockwork: The second wave is coming, and it's going to be worse! Unspecified reports indicate the virus mutated to become more easily communicable! Trump revises sharply upward the anticipated deaths!
It was too predictable, and its timing suspect. (Otherwise I might not have doubted its credibility right away.) It follows the same dance step patterns as the Global Warming hoax established in the decades that we've been conned by the 'Progressives' and their media.

Some people will still get sick, but they will get better. The fact is we cannot continue to destroy our country over this. The elderly with underlying health conditions will have to take the most care. But we must move on. The alternative is the democratic/communist dream, a 3rd world country. Just what Pelosi, Schumer and the other communist want. We can either move on and be free or join the communist plantation. Get it.

It is the eternal struggle to regain liberty lost. Americans just tossed away plenty with this "crisis". They broke it and bought it...and no returns.

The Los Angeles Times reports today that Gavin Newsom will decide on which and when communities may reopen depending on whether he approves their applications and plans, and that will depend upon how well their plans satisfy his guidelines. He is now the king of a state of 40 million people.

Re, #9's comment: In the state of KS, 7% of tests are positive. Most counties have zero to one CASES, no deaths, maybe a third have 1 death, the three most densely populated counties account for 120 of the 155 deaths in a state of 2 million. One county, not the most densely populated, accounts for 65% of all deaths.
Second highest is my county, although the highest county has less than 1/4th our population, yet has five times the per capita deaths and cases. Something is different there, for sure.

It is a fight because the left don't won't the economy opened and Trump re-elected. That's why. Then the do nothing constituency of the Democrats are having checks mailed to them, so what's not to like.

Also the Left believe that the reason for Trump's appeal in 2016 was his populist tone and the YUGE rallies wherever he went. If the Left can stop his in-person appearances, they can defuse that appeal. He's done a great end-around with his press conferences, giving him exposure that he lost when the rallies were stopped. Now the Left keep trying to get his pressers taken off the air, so that only THEIR narrative reaches the people of this country.
To a large extent, the politicization of this virus has had silencing Trump as its central target.
