Like many Americans, I have watched too many movies during this seemingly unending stretch of glorified house arrest. (snip) Called Gabriel Over the White House, this 1933 liberal wet dream proved to be the most unapologetic celebration of fascism ever put on film.
I watched it wide-eyed. The movie opens with the inauguration of Jud Hammond. A laissez-faire back-slapper, Hammond sees the White House as a way to enrich himself and reward his cronies, Depression be damned. The audience assumes Hammond is a Republican.

There's a guy on YouTube (TIK) who does a great job of explaining WW2 battles, mainly in the eastern front at Stalingrad and the aftermath. He did a video on the rise of fascism in the 20th century and how Italy's fascism differed from Hitler. Fascism was a marriage of socialism and nationalism as a way of unifying the country. You cannot have fascism without socialism, it's how the leaders control the country. The right cannot be fascist because right wing governments do not believe in state control, they believe in private property rights. This is something he realized after going through indoctrination at school.

The Thirties had lots of these types of movies. Fascism thrived everywhere during those times. WWII started because of it.

Always remember that Adolph Hitler was Time Magazine's "Man of the Year" in 1938.
The world was in awe of how Hitler "unified" Germany and built it into an industrial giant in a few short years. Never mind that he took over all of the press and film of the day, and all industry was put under central control. Even King Edward VIII was enthralled with the little German Corporal and was plotting to submit his Empire of Great Britain to der Führer in order to avoid war.

I've often wondered what the USA would have done had King Eddie tried doing that... never mind Winston Churchill probably would have done it for us.

Oh, please, 1933 was in the teeth of the Great Depression, and Hollywood was dispensing "Happy Days are here again" joy to the masses. So, what's news? Hoover did what Hoover did, and Roosevelt hammered him in the '32 election.
There were a series of political movies throughout the era that celebrated the little man at the expense of the big shot swells in tuxedos. Mr. Smith Goes to Washington is one. In fact, Smith's experience has some strong parallels to PDT's trial and trevails...over a public works project and the exposure of corruption in "honorable" men.
You want leftist drivel that "matters" in 2020...try Star Trek...any edition.

Once again - - it's impossible to embarrass or shame leftists. They have no souls or consciences.
Do you remember all those leftist wet dream movies during the Cold War era? Seven Days In May, Dr. Strangelove, Fail Safe, etc. All of the depicting "right-wing" American generals starting WWIII against the innocent Soviet Union.
Do you think leftists look back in shame and embarrassment because none of that ever happened? Au contraire - - they prance around today as if it actually did!
No, my friends - - don't waste your time trying to shame lefties. It can't be done.

#6 - FDR backed Hoover's plans - until they failed.
Hollywood is very good at subliminal propaganda. I was watching Trading Places for probably the 4th time before I noticed the bad guys had photos of Republican presidents on their desks while the good guys had democrats

Ever since Robert Osborne died TCM has become agenda driven. Feminism, sexism, racism, and LGT etc. have all found their champion at TCM.

Being an old movie fanatic, I have seen this one and all the WWIII movies mentioned by #7. Even in silent film, you see Leftist themes. Film is a great looking glass into the black shriveled authoritarian soul of the Left.

Actually, Hammond sounds like a white version of Hussein Obama, except Hussein wasn't as competent at getting his dictatorship in place.

This movie was available on Hulu streaming recently. I missed it, but then I am not real fond of a lot of these kinds of messagey movies. I have no problems with Hollywood producing movies with a hint of optimism rather than pessimism like they do today.

If you want a vintage movie that's fun and also embodies a priceless common-sense theme, try Mr. Blandings Builds His Dream House.
Cary Grant's comments at the breakfast table about "progressive" schools are hilarious and sound as if they could easily be made today.

Another great movie that surprisingly injects the virtues of capitalism is the original Sabrina with Humphrey Bogart, William Holden and Audrey Hepburn.
I'm so excited I found the actual quote. The set up: William Holden says to Bogart something like you have all the money in the world, what more do you need? And Bogie gives this incredible speech:
" A new product has been found, something of use to the world, so a new industry moves into an undeveloped area. Factories go up, machines are brought in, a harbor is dug, and you're in business. It's purely coincidental of course that people who never saw a dime before suddenly have a dollar, and barefooted kids wear shoes and have their teeth fixed and their faces washed. What's wrong with the kind of an urge that gives people libraries, hospitals, baseball diamonds and, uh, movies on a Saturday night? Miss McCardle, will you send in the secretaries? "
This one paragraph should be taught in every school in America instead of the socialist drivel they indoctrinate our kids with.

The movie the author is worked up about was shown recently on TCM (Turner Classic Movies). TCM is one of my favourite channels. Never get tired of watching Fred Astaire and Ginger Rodgers dancing until their feet hurt. One of the greatest movies ever made is The Grapes of Wrath which is an ad for socialism. Just turn on your BS filter and enjoy great performances.

Watch TCM nearly exclusively. Other honorable mentions to catch when they come 'round are ''The Great McGinty'' with Brian Donlevy & ''Keeper of the Flame'', Kathrine Hepburn & Spencer Tracy.
