Former passengers are suing Carnival-owned cruise lines and accusing company management and crew members of knowingly exposing them to coronavirus. In one case, the decision to continue boarding passengers caused a customer's death, lawyers representing a family said. The most recent case, filed this week, involves Susan and Michael Dorety of Texas, who boarded a Princess Cruise Line ship February 21. Michael Dorety became ill while on board, according to court documents. He later died from coronavirus complications and Susan contracted the disease COVID-19, said Rusty Hardin, a Houston lawyer representing the couple.

So if you are on a cruise ship and get the stomach flu because it is going around, you can now sue?

Well , it looks as if we're going to need to train a lot of lawyers . Oddly enough, I thought we already had plenty of them.

There are wondrous ways to make money without doing any actual work. When life gives you lemons, make money.

Any fool who boarded a cruise on February 21st deserves a refund of their ticket price.
They should have sued for a refund of their ticket price, instead of getting on that boat.
But why on earth didn't they shut down the cruise ship industry, like they did gyms???

#4 Cruise lines did and before our YMCA here shut all its centers .
YMCA of Middle TN shut down March 17th.
The first cruise lines started suspending all new cruises on March 12th and started the process of repatriation for guests onboard their longer cruises.
I know this because we are Y members and we had a cruise booked in March. We were able to cancel and reschedule our cruise almost effortlessly. We lost no, not one dime of our money in the deal and actually got a better deal on a cruise next year.
As for this article, hah!! lawyers. Cruise contracts are long for a reason. If you have never seen one, they remind me of when we bought our house only buying the house was easier to understand.

The whirlwind of blame shifting will bring lawyers. Many, many lawyers. Under the rube of " coulda, shoulda known" they will ding every venue and circumstance with deep pockets - anyone but China.

It's a sure sign that the crisis is over, liberal lawyers are starting to crawl out from under their rocks, anxious to extort their 50%.

Crazy. Do they think that the cruise line intentionally put the infection on the ships? Nope, one or more of the passengers did it. Now if the cruise line is expected to have a germ free ship then going forward all passengers must wear gowns, shoe covers, gloves, masks, and not complain about foggers going up and down the passageways every twenty minutes.

Mr. Dorety was a retired firefighter...one wonders his state of cardiopulmonary health after exposure to fires and other unhealthy conditions over the years.
According to the filing, after two weeks on the cruise, passengers were placed in quarantine off the California coast, and Mr. Dorety fell ill. So, Mr. Dorety became sick AFTER the ship was quarantined by the US Coast Guard. Under ordinary circumstances Mr. Dorety would have disembarked, gotten sick at home, and free to seek medical treatment beyond what the quarantined ship's doctor would provide, i.e. Tylenol and Tamiflu. The suit also alleges that the couple was not advised until later (whenever that was) that they could leave the ship for medical treatment - although they were at sea. By all accounts the ill were the first off the ship when it landed. Mr. Dorety died in an Oakland hospital.

Princess Cruises is owned by the governor of Illinois. So are the Hyatt Hotels. Remember when you go on vacation.

These have to be liberals. No other creature on earth can engage in stupid behavior like sheep, then blame others for 'letting them board and go on the cruise'. Seriously people?
What needs to happen maybe is that the cruise lines need to change their no refund policies for emergencies like this. Because nobody held a gun to these people to force them to go on cruises during an epidemic. Trump is also right in saying that since these cruise lines prefer registering their ships in foreign lands, those companies need to turn to those nations for help. Not Uncle Sam. This is not the problem of the taxpayers.

#10 No, you are mistaken. JB Pritzker nor the Pritzker family own Princess Cruise lines.
From the Royal Caribbean Cruise Ltd. website, a totally unrelated cruise line and Carnival Corp competitor. https://www.rclcorporate.com/leadership/thomas-j-pritzker/
"Thomas J. Pritzker has served as a director of the Company since February 1999. Mr. Pritzker is Executive Chairman of Hyatt Hotels Corporation and Chairman and CEO of The Pritzker Organization, which provides investment and business advisory services to the Thomas J. Pritzker family enterprise. " JB and Thomas are cousins.
Princess Cruise Lines is own by Carnival Corporation and Carnival is run by Mickey Arison, son of Carnival founder Ted Arison.
