Popular dairy brand Land O’Lakes quietly changed its packaging to remove its iconic Indian maiden image, it was revealed Wednesday. The new packaging has already started to appear in stores and looks similar to the previous branding with an image of lake and trees—except without Mia, the kneeling woman featured in the center, the Minnesota Reformer reported.
“We’ve recognized we need packaging that reflects the foundation and heart of our company culture—and nothing does that better than our farmer-owners whose milk is used to produce Land O’Lakes’ dairy products,” said Beth Ford, President and CEO of Land O’Lakes, in a February press release.

It was a stupid move made because the company has no bal--intestinal fortitude.
I will still buy it because I like it best, but why do companies try to sell a false narrative when we all know why they removed the Indian.
Frightened of annoying someone that hasn't even cried yet.

Well, there goes a fun trick to delight your drunken friends with...
You fold the Mia image down so that her chest matches up with her knees and...
You really need me to draw a picture? :-)

Won’t buy it again. That said, I have been buying Kroger’s house brand. Almost two bucks cheaper. I do splurge for Kerry Gold for my toast. Virtue signal if you want and I guess my not buying won’t hurt them but if half the MAGA folks quit buying it I think it will make a difference.

If the CEO was a 'straight' person there would be no mention of who they were married to. It was unimportant information but now that they put it front and center, I resent it and won't buy their products.

Native Americans are slowly being reduced to nothing despite so many of the iconic brand images, as in baseball, are meant to reflect their bravery. I guess the Sacagawea dollar should immediately be taken out of circulation to erase more of the great Native American culture.

As this program continues it will remove any image of the first nation people from the public eye. Soon our children & grandchildren will have no idea of who they were and what they did. There will be no icon left nor image with which to recall the American Tribes.

I buy this butter when it is on sale. It is higher quality that some of the others on the market. Whether the packaging has an Indian maiden on it or not is not a major concern of mine right now...

I just don't understand what's wrong with people these days. Some seem to take offense at everything and then it must be destroyed. Look at all of our statues representing our history. Next, someone will take offense at the buffalo nickel and insist it be taken out of circulation because there is a native American on the other side (obverse or reverse, I don't know). What is the world is happening?

OK... I've purchased this brand when its price is the best in the butter case. No more! No. More. I will not support political correctness.

The “classic packging” has been redesigned numerous times since the original was commissioned by this dairy farmers’ cooperative.
The Land O'Lakes indigenous woman, named Mia, holding the butter box was painted in 1928 by Brown & Bigelow illustrator Arthur C. Hanson.[23] According to Land O'Lakes, the original image of Mia was "simplified and modernized" in 1939 by Jess Betlach and has undergone many minor modifications since as the enduring logo of the co-op. Red Lake Ojibwe artist Patrick DesJarlait updated Mia's image in the 1950s.[23][24] The original image is an example of the infinite-loop motif or Droste effect, in which the image is repeated, in theory infinitely, within itself.
In 2018, the image was changed to depict only the head of the Indian maiden (doing away with the Droste effect).[25] In April 2020, the company announced it was removing the image of the Indian maiden altogether.[26]
The only real Indian involved was an artist who redesigned the package illustration in 1950.
Sorry, I don’t change my buying habits over something as flimsy as this. That the CEO, who is apparently a very highly respected business leader, who started out as a kid in Iowa earning $2/hour to de-tassel corn, happens to be gay and married with teenagers just doesn’t move my needle.
In a world where we have serious things to be concerned about, this is, IMO, a Nothingburger. And I will continue to call them Indians. Or American Indians. And I will buy this very fine butter when the price is right.

When you can’t use these cultural symbols, you lose culture. Bit by bit, we lose history and a sense of place and culture. Here’s to a very bland future. P.S. I thought the old Hammes commercial - from the land of Sky Blue Waters - was one of the catchiest ever.

Think that they need to replace Mia on the package with an AUTHENTIC Native American . . . like Elizabeth Fauxcahontas Warren.

Count me in on the boycott as well. That is just ridiculous thinking on the part of a numbskull CEO. Shame too, for they make a really good product. She has probably gotten feedback from ignorant feminists who say that kneeling is submissive and hateful or something. I guess that people all over the world who sit on their floors or the ground are bad too, right?

I am offended they are taking off the beautiful maiden to try to be PC. My Native American blood is offended that your leftist PC ideology looks DOWN on our culture and people and feel we no longer can represent your products. Well, in response, we will NO LONGER buy your butter!!! We will tell others not to but it also.

I heard they were going to replace the image with Rosie O'Donnell who has endorsed their product. She rubs Land O' Lakes butter on her inner thighs to help with the friction.

Just another step in the journey of eradicating every mention of Indians from our culture. They better watch out. Once a people becomes non-people, their days are numbered.

I've seen Aunt Jemima and Betty Crocker redesigned in my lifetime. But I didn't know the history of this. FTA:
Native American artist Patrick DesJarlait, of the Ojibwe tribe, redesigned the packaging in the 1950s to foster “a sense of Indian pride,” the Minnesota Reformer reported.
His son, Robert DesJarlait, told the outlet that the image — which has been slammed by many as “racist” — has become a “paradox” for Native Americans.

A year ago, a friend introduced me to Kerry Gold Butter. It is made in Ireland, from only grass fed cows. It's more expensive, but it beats all American butters. Even Costco carries.

The classic packaging was designed by a Native American artist to foster pride among Indians, but the married Lesbian-American company CEO says Indians are offensive, or something. We will no longer buy their product.
